hello subsimers,
i am having a little issue with s3d v099 on my pc,
whenever i install this version i can't set this programm as a default for opening dat ,sim,..etc files becuase the programm is not appearing in the list of the availiable programms. browsing to the programm ,in order to set it as a default, does...nothing.
the issue is not appearing with the s3d v094. this version is appearing normally in the list of the availiable programms.
does anyone know a workout to make the v099 appear in the list of the availiable programms ?
my system is a win7 x64

.99 works fine for me.
I browsed to the s3d.exe and set it as the default for the files.
Do you have both versions installed?

hi Jeff,
no only one is installed,
first i unistalled the v094 (from the control panel) and then i installed the v099.
the spoken issue appeared and then i unistalled the v099 and reinstalled the v094 and the issue was gone .
i mean that every time i set up the v094 it appears normally in the list but this is not happening with the v099 on my pc :06:

Don't know Mate. :hmmm:
I browsed to the x86 programs folder to find the S3D.exe.
Selected that and made sure the Always use this program box was checked.
It works fine here. Win 7 64 of course.
Search the registry for dat_auto_file
You should find something like this if it's correct.
"C:\Program Files (x86)\skwas\Silent 3ditor\S3D.exe" "%1"

You might need to run a registry check and defrag after un-installing the old S3D.
I'd find that unusual for Skwasjer though. He's pretty darn good!
:D
I also have UAC turned off by the way.

Would it be an idea to just update from v094 to v099? Just overwrite the old installation? :hmmm:

Jeff and Danasan,
tried everything you suggested but nothing worked .
the strange thing is that the v099 is running ok when i launch it from its .exe and opens all the files (dat,zon...etc) through its interface.
i know it is something on my pc which doesn't 'like' the v099 but i hoped someone to have faced the same issue and have found the way out.
anyway, back to the old ,good (for me) v094

OK, I have a Win 7 64 bit OS in German language. But you should be able to find something like that:
Control panel >>> programs >>> standard/default >>> set default program for filetype >>> there should appear a dropdown list for all the filetypes >>> change default program >>> browse to the folder and .exe
Maybe that helps.

hi Danasan,
the above procedure leads to the same screen as i choose the ''open with...'' option when i left clic on the file . when i choosed the s3d.exe did just...nothing !
anyway , problem is solved thanks to Jeff's post !
@Jeff: when i followed your advice and searched the registry for ''dat_auto_file'' ended.... to no results.
but today , i was rereading your post and i thought to search for ''s3d'' in registry and....bingo !
http://imageshack.us/a/img585/9896/ls9q.png
the problem was that although i had installed the v099 ,the paths in the registry had this marked ''(v0.9.4)'' which is not the correct path for the v099.
by changing the paths from ''Silent 3ditor (v0.9.4)'' to ''Silent 3ditor'' the problem was solved ! this change was needed tobe made to several areas in the registry as the ''Silent 3ditor (v0.9.4)'' was appearing to more than one place in there (defaults for sim,zon...etc )
Thank you Jeff for the advice and Danasan for your suggestions
