View Full Version : Cold Blood anyone?

After sinking a fairly large cargo ship and sailing slowly past the sailors in their lifeboats, I got to wondering if anyone knew of an instance where U Boats had actually fired upon lifeboats? I can't imagine this personally, as after all - regardless of flag - the men were all sailors, no matter who's side they were on.
Being a softie, humanitarian type, I always imagine myself throwing food to the stranded salts and making sure everyone is OK before I leave the scene, but I can't help but wonder if anyone has actually attacked lifeboats in-game, or knows of any real-life similar attacks.
Moreover, would anyone admit it, if they had? :salute:

Eck did, on U-852, to the crew of the SS Peleus.

Eck was executed shortly after the war by the Allies after a trial.

Most Kaluens, even after direct instructions from Donitz not to (after the Laconia incident), assisted lifeboats by giving food and water, and rough directions toward land.

Do not forget cigarette packages. :|\\

In some cases, two factors contributed to it: sunken ships hundreds of miles away from the Caribbean, where there was no air patrols, allowed to take it easy without great risk for submersible and their endowment. Second, the long distance to the mainland meant that survivors need as much help as they could muster for a long trip in a boat without cover.

Best regards. :salute:
