View Full Version : An observation about SH3

As I was loading in SH3 today, I noticed on the monitor the words

"Copyright @2005"

I've seen it every time, but paid little attention.

Think about that for a second.

There are MANY, MANY, MANY of us who are playing a simulation created 8 years ago.
Due in MOST parts to the MODs and such, that have been created to make this "game" better.

But I still see many people who stumble across SH3 in bargin bins and pick it up, at a low price, install it, and LIKE it enough to find out more information...

Then they do a little web research and end up here at the Subsim Forums...and start tweaking their installation with all the wonderful mods.

I guess I just can't even begin to imagine the number of games that have been created since 2005, let alone the number of man-hours involved in creating them, and here we are 8 years later, still playing SH3.

To each and everyone of you that have invested so much time and energy making this "good game" a GREAT simulation.

I say THANK YOU.

Couldn't agree more.

Probably my favorite pc game of all time.

I totally agree.
In fact I had the stock SH3 already from 2006 and came across Subsim by accident.
Of course , I stayed!

I played SH2 in 2003 on a friend's laptop, in 2010 I bought SH3 thinking that was the game I'd played and I've been here ever since.

There is no doubt in my mind that Sh3 is one of the best games ever! Out of 100+ games that I have collected over the years, there are only 4 or 5 that I consistently return to, and Sh3 is one of them. :)

Agreed. It's a quality game. When modded it's the best game ever imo.

Odd, isn't it? SH5 should have all the makings. And with the great mod work that has been done on it, it has many excellent features that can't be found in any other game. Yet old, funky, clunky-graphics SH3 is the one so many players find gives them the most fun. Playable and immersive.

I totally agree.

Because of SH3, I purchased SH4 and SH5, and found neither on of them as enjoyable as Silent Hunter 3, especially when you consider the MegaMods and number of mods that increase the pleasure.

SH3 is one of those rare games that, like a good bottle of wine, improves with age. What other U-Boat sim offers you a chance to skipper the various types of U-Boats from a Type II and up to the late war Type XXIII (thanks to Jimbuna for that mod). A dynamic campaign that keeps each patrol and career different. Tons of mods that allow you to tweak SH3 into what you want and still give you good performance on most PC's. A lively community and mods still being created or improved for it.....whats not to like? Ok, the graphics are not state of the art....but so what! they are still decent and don't detract from the the game play.
SH3 is still the most accessible and well balanced U-Boat sim to date and I love it!
