Greetings,
I decided to try the NYGM Mod but am having some difficulties and need some expert advice.

I started as required with a clean install of SH3 patched 1.4. Installed JSGME and downloaded the NYGM Mod; all 9 files. I installed the first three, essential, mods; NYGM Tonnage War v2.5, NYGM3 New, NYGM 6c in that order and added IABL Ships for NYGM.

The game started OK so I then added the remaining mods NYGM Hres Subs, MFM Interim and Steiber 4B_V1681 Revised.

Again the game started OK. but two things I've noticed that give me pause. I am the only boat/ship in the game. From my start in the harbour there is nothing but me. I sailed out into the bay and still no other ships.I am sure there is something missing. Second when I tried the first exercise in the Academy. Navigation, no matter how often I tried it I never got the first part, steering SSE through the channel as 'completed'. All other aspects of the test were fine.

I've read through many of the Mod topics in the forum and I am not entirely sure about the proper installation procedure. Should I have installed an earlier version first and updated it, if so where do I find it, is there another file to add the ships? I have gone wrong some where but don't know where.

Incidently the opening shots as the game is loading are those that come with the basic SH3 game. I rather expected them to be different, more in line with Steiber's topic announcing version 3. [SH3 Mods Workshop NYGM 3 Super-mod (Current: 3.6 B, July 23rd)]

Any and all advice will be most welcome.

On a more light hearted note, realism, I'm horrified at the Sub I've been given command of. It's a tatty old rustbucket MkI prototype dating from the Crimean war I think. They don't really think I can go to war in this do they?

Don't know if this is relevant, but you can't use Stiebler without installing h.sie's V16B1-Patch-Kit first. IIRC, some of the necessary changes and supporting files are not duplicated in Stiebler. You patch sh3.exe first with V16B1-Patch-Kit, then with Stiebler. You only need to install the final patched sh3.exe, but all the support files from both mods are needed.

You say you added "the other mods." Do you mean NYGM3.3 Mediterranean Campaign Only and 3rd Flotilla Mod also? 3rd Flotilla Mod should only be used if you are playing that flotilla. And NYGM3.3 Mediterranean Campaign Only will, I think, remove ALL SHIPS except for those in the Med campaign. Might be your problem.

Also MFM Interim might cause problems.

Good luck.

Could you show your list of mods, to better analyze the situation.

Best Regards :salute:.

Greetings,

My installed mods are shown in the second paragraph but to clarify.
I installed the 'Essential' files in the following order;
NYGM Tonnage War v2.5 Full Version,
NYGM 3 New and
NYGM3 6C.
After that I installed also in this order the following 'optional mods',
IABL Ships for NYGM,
NYGM Hres Subs and
Stieber's 4B_V1681 Rev.
These Mod were all part of the 9 files downloaded as part of NYGM.

I have not installed these mods yet;
MFM Interim
SH3 Commander updates and
3rd Flotilla.

BigWalleye already indicated that you need the "V16B1-Patch-kit" to install the "Stiebler4B_V16B1_Revised". Stiebler himself has indicated that it is necessary.

In addition, you need the "MFM-Lite-Beta-v4" and then install "MFM-Interim-Beta_NYGM". But, remember that the "MFM-Lite-Beta-v4" and "IABLShipsforNYGM_New2" are not compatible.

And the problem with some ships of the "MFM-Lite-Beta-v4" is that when you find a convoy some ships are on the ocean (with the propellers in the air and therefore does not move). It rarely happens.

1. The "MFM-Lite-Beta-v4" you can download it from here:

http://www.mediafire.com/folder/sadcdpugnzppn/MFM-Lite-Beta-v4

2. The "V16B1-Patch-kit" you can download it from here:

http://www.mediafire.com/folder/ydh5i4okkbhc6/V16B1-Patch-Kit

Or in its corresponding section:

Long live to the NYGM. :salute:

Quoting for emphasis, this is (most likely) the issue. Just activating Steibler in JSGME is not enough, there are additional steps that need to be done before Steibler will work. All the documentation and instructions on setting it up properly are within the 7zip archive you downloaded.

Thanks everyone for the most helpful replies. Won't do anything now, its 0130hrs here in the uk, and the brain is sluggish, but I'll get busy this afternoon.
Thanks again.

Greetings folks,
I'm totally taken aback. I've got three lots of installation instructions for various parts/mods for NYGM garnered from all your replies:
The instructions that I D/Ld with the 9 NYGM files.
The set that patches SH3.exe and
The information given here above.
In total five and a half printed pages.

My problem, apart from a certain denseness of brain, is that I haven't clue as to what order I should tackle them.
I started with the instructions for patching the SH3.exe but that ended by a) refering to "indivdualised Supplement file". I don't see that anywhere. and b) saying that this mod should be activated last but I've no idea what should come before and in what order. I'm lost among the caveats.

My impression is that NYGM is for very PC experienced players who know their way round their PCs. That it is, at least to me, a very complex Mod to set up due no doubt to the many options available, which is obviously one of it's main attractions.

Regretfully I think I'll have to give it a miss. Thanks for all your help and support. Back to GWX3 for me.

I will try to write a little instruction to send it. I'm not a computer expert, or even know how to put a picture in the forum.

Give me a moment and I'll send a PM (it is difficult to write in English for me).

Greetings. :salute:

The h.sie and Stiebler patches are both more complex than a mod you just download and install with JSGME. However, there are very well-written step-by-step instructions for both. And neither is required for NYGM,. Nor are they anything I would personally even consider playing GWX3 without! They both fix some long-standing issues and glaring defects that have haunted SH3 since its release, defects which can't be fixed by a conventional mod. Like the crash-dive blues. And the lazy WO.

Telemon, you need to unzip the file V16B1-Patch-Kit.7z to a new empty folder on your desktop. DO use 7Zip to do this, and DON'T use any other program. Then look in the folder for the file Readme_V16B1.pdf. Read it. It will tell you all you need to know about how to set up h.sie's patcher for your installation and will answer a lot of other questions, too. Doing so does not require any special advanced knowledge of computers, just the average person's ability to follow directions if they are clearly written. And I think you will find that these are. h.sie spent a lot of time on them.

You should NEVER, EVER, EVER, install a mod without reading all the accompanying documentation. Ignoring this rule will lead you sooner or later to a corrupt installation and a tedious process of uninstalling everything, cleaning your registry, re-acquiring all the mods you just lost, and re-installing everything. Maybe as many as 1/4 of all the mods you download will contain folders which have to be removed and activated separately, or the mod will do nothing. Take the time, read the documentation, and you will be a happier subsimmer!

Good luck.

Greetings Ligne Maginot,

Yes found it this morning.

Just what I need. I can't thank you enough for going to the trouble to produce this step by step guide for me. Many many thanks.

Taking the opportunity to thank you here publically rather that by PM so all can see how good a forum member we have among us. Like so many others who need help there is always some one who answers the call.

My thanks to you all for all the help I have received in the last few days.

What a great community.

"With one hand wash the other and with both we wash our face" (at least in Spanish is a famous phrase that sounds good).
