The book 'the secret diary of a u-boat' by Wolfgang Hirshfeld covers U-234. He was on this boat when the surrender order came through.

...great doco' cheers!

Here's another I really enjoyed after watching that one. It gives the perspective of the guys (from both sides) and shows the human cost of war at sea. It's easy to forget that the ball of flame going down, amid your cheering crew members, actually has men like you aboard. I found this very powerful viewing.

Glad to have been of service guys.
Although a fair few of you will have seen most of all there is about the 'boots' I'll post a few more links all the same in case new recruits haven't seen them, or old salts want to watch them over again.
As most of my working 'week' is at night- and primarily at weekends - I have a little time on my hands to trawl the net looking for interesting bits and pieces.

So, for the benefit of interested parties here is a little list you may like to bookmark. Again, this will be common knowledge to some, but new recruits arrive all the time, so take what you need and ignore the rest. :salute:

For all things U-Boat and to look up your own boat number's real life history.

Interesting, especially the 15 minute mark where you'll hear lots of
"Jawohl herr kaleun"

And finally I wanted to show off my atrol log, in particular the lovely Chritmas present I got on patrol number 6. Number 15 is also interesting for sinking something weighing 8 tons!! :o

More than welcome friend. I almost always fall asleep with a WWII or history documentary playing on my laptop, with headphones on. I'm not sure if we actually learn anything in our sleep, but it's a habit I can't do without now.
