View Full Version : Moving from SH-III to SH-V

I have been a member of these boards for a few years and while I used to play SH-III and enjoyed it alot then I never got to finish a complete campaign, I lost my save game when buying a new computer etc.

Since then I have never picked up SH-III which I used to play without any mods. However I did have my eyes on SH-V which I followed a bit before it was released though I never picked it up due to playing other games and also I have to admit the rather mixed reviews I read on these boards as I understand it was quite buggy on release.

However now a few weeks ago I picked up a hardcopy version of the game, I initially thought about getting it via steam but I opted against it since it will be difficult/impossible from what I gather to use mods, or certain mods with the steamversion of the game.

So now I am the lucky owner of a copy of SH-V, though I have not installed it yet and I am not sure when I will start playing it but I have longed for one of these games again since it belongs to the genre I like to call "cozy games" where you have time to relax and enjoy the game in peace as opposed to hectical FPS games, which I primary play, though I am in a gaming "depression" now finishing of Battlefield 3 which has left me, or starting to burned out gaming wise.

So in that case I think a bit of SH-V might be a good remedy.

By the way, I can be a bit slow when it comes to installing mods and from what I gather SH-V is perhaps a bit more dependent of mods in order to be enjoyable then SH-III (which I found good enough without), however as I have not played SH-V yet is it an ok game without mods?

Welcome! I am still playing on BF3 when I need to spice things up... LOLOLOL!!!

Anyway, you must have mods to play SH5 because it makes the game more interesting!

Greetings and welcome to SH5 - The half assed & half finished game :D

When it comes to modding and such I'm on the farther side of SLOW myself. Started downloading mods last Tuesday and finished yesterday :sunny: There are tons of decent mods lists here, so choosing one is actually the hardest part! I went with Fifi's mods list "for top immersion" found here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=203711&page=4

You're looking at a 3,85 Gb mods folder, but you'll have one sweet game experience when it's done.

Best of luck and happy hunting :salute:

mods or no mods you need my Generic Patcher to fix the bugs in the game. It also has some cool additions to the game

The irony is: the uboat war WAS a half assed war: too few boats; too soon; with lazy funkers not using that fourth rotor and really only with the last war's technology... and a halfassed plan. I second Adm FiFI.:arrgh!:
