I was lucky enough to receive a visit at my home from Garion and his lovely wife yesterday.

He came to pick up my 1/96 HMS illustrious 'Lusty' because having had her for approximately 30 years she has been stuck up in the loft of my house due to my laziness to construct her and put her on the local boating lake as a r/c model (my initial intention).

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2097582&postcount=9

During the course of our conversation he mentioned how close his house was to East Fortune so we promptly went up to the man cave and he showed me via Google Earth.

That reminded me I was at East Fortune Airshow just a few weeks ago and will spur me on to sort out some of the photos I took.

More to follow...

The Eurofighter passed very low over my house and I discovered that it was a very good cure for constipation...

The Cats and Dog were not well chuffed.:D

The Harrier plastered with Royal Navy would be the one.

The only other mistake I can see on this page is the thread title. :O:

That's actually the oldest surviving Harrier, and is one of the pre-production aircraft. It was used as a test bed for varying things, which is why it has the Gr.3 nose on it. At one point it was apparently used as a ground instructional airframe for the RN, hence the markings.
Nobody seems to know what those wooden bits in the side of the fuselage are though.

I knew most of that after a bit of searching, apart from the RN instructional airframe. I also know that the bump may have been associated with a test camera or testing point for in-flight refuelling probe, but it's all just speculation until we can dig someone or something up in its history.

I can see Flying Toaster is going to fit in just fine around these parts. :yeah:

On the same day it was the 2nd annual Cleethorpes Airshow, held along the seafront (estuary, really!). They've been edited to remove a persistent mark on the lens, and for size.

1 - 2: The Vulcan, unusually it's display time was early in the listings and it was only down as a fly-by but I'd call it more of a half-display.

3 - 4: B-17 'Sally-B', I remember seeing this one in the late eighties and early nineties but not since then, glad to see she's still displaying - the last B-17 flying in Europe I believe.

5: Lancaster of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, one of only two flying in the world.

6 - 9: Typhoon. Another tremendous, noisy display. After the Tiffy's stilted, prolonged development I was initially nonplussed by it. After seeing the thing display now for the third time this year the agility alone raises it up in my esteem.

http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/1741/rzbw.jpg

Yes, that last photo is deliberate. The airshow was free to watch the display.

I was at Duxford five or six years previous when both the Sally B and Pink Lady both flew together (hard copies only unfortunately) alas Pink Lady is now static I think :(

It's the Spanish licence version with a Rolls Royce Merlin engine designated Hispano HA 1112 Bouchon (their nose is ugly compared to the real 109s IMHO).
The biplane on the last pictures is the Spanish version of the Bücker Jungmann, a German trainer of WWII.

The Spanish version was in production until 1954, and in service until 1965. The reason for the look is because the Daimler-Benz engine was an inverted 'V' while the Rolls-Royce Merlin was an upright 'V'. As far as the looks, we've been making that same complaint since 1966, every time we watch Battle of Britain. The movie also features Spanish versions of the He-111, drawing the exact same complaints. Still, a British-engined 109 is better than no 109 at all. :sunny:
