I just had such an appalling patrol that writing it up story-form would be grossly embarrassing And uninteresting.
4 periods on station, total time spent in Marshalls about 38 days, not a single ship sighted. Decided the only way to have positive tonnage before returning to base was another visit to Truk, the closest place I knew there was shipping.
The swells had to be 8 feet at least, because at 72' of depth the scope was occasionally clear. Heavy fog, visibility less than 300 yards, any "up-scopes" so close drew fire. I launched 20 torpedoes and the only 2 that hit anything were the Cuties. I had 4 premature detonations and no clue what happened to the others, all launched on zero bearing at stationary silhouettes between 600 & 1200 yards. Embarrassing.
Does the game weather model Typhoons, or other "extreme" weather?

I love heavy overcast/heavy rain.
Heavy seas, not so much, as torpedoes perform poorly when airborne between swells...:D.

Unfortunately, no. That is the reason why the weather will seem to be "stuck" on 15m/s winds. That is as high as they can go. I for one would greatly appreciate more realistic weather, but nobody knows how to do make it happen.

Yep, can be a pain.I posted not long ago about running into a convoy off Mariannas in summer 1943 while en route to Area Parlor, attacked in night surface action, ten torpedoes fired, i believe 9 were prematures, 1 missed due to gyro error put it of course as speed etc all was correct.I moved ahead, ready to try a dawn submerged attack.Just as I was about to dive the next morning, storm moved in.For two days I tracked them via radar waiting for storm to break, was almost 400 miles out of my area, decided to break off and head for area since already used 10 torpedoes and some fuel .Storm went on for coupe more days until I cleared it.
While the game does not simulate typhoons per say, the long storms are a decent representation. Several books i have ready by skippers mention getting caught in severe, long lasting storms while en route to patrol area, sometimes while en route from panama canal to pearl harbor etc.
I do wish typhoons were simulated, as well as damage from the storms and extra fatigue to the crew.

I find the weather on the U-Boat side much more realistic. My girl loves the water colors and how they change from on location to another just like the ocean does

You can make more realistic storms, but you need a balance.
You can make or design waves or swells as big as you please, the downfalls, using TC, you'll find yourself constantly submerging and surfacing. Bigger waves damage ships, which is no real problem, but mostly those in port get major damage. However, this effect doesn't bother me.
You could adjust storm colors in env to be darker.
Add more dramatic storm sounds.
I've done all the above. The main issue I have is you can't control wave size, don't like massive storm waves with clear blue skies.
However, it is rather fun to pull off an attack with larger waves. If swells are large enough, even at scope depth your sub may surface or broach.
