Let's talk about AG's only here.
I have several. Each is designed and used differently.
My main AG is a Hatsan 125 Sniper in .25 cal.
It is deadly at 70 yards zero punching through a plastic 5 gallon bucket!
Next is my 1322 in .22 cal.
Good for out to maybe 40 yards.
My pride and joy is the SMG 22.
Belt fed, full auto, SubMachine Gun that is crazy accurate out to about 50 yards!
Nice thing is they are cheap to fire as ammo is cheap and easy to get.
And I don't need to register them.

I respect the Laws and also practice safe shooting here at home.
If any of the neighbors are out and about?
I don't shoot. Even though I know they are not in my line of fire and I have a very safe fire zone.

I'm not into them, but my son was. I was amazed at the quality of reproductions. I even got tommy gun, look and felt real. My sons fav was a SAW, fired electric and could really put them out. They didn't have anything as powerful as you, but those plastic bb's still hurt. His friends geared up and had wars with each other, now he;s into paint ball guns.

He had Airsoft stuff. Never did that myself but I know Dan is a big Airsoft Dude over in Romainia.
:yeah:
My SMG 22 is based on the Tippmann 98 Paintball Gun. Just a brilliant design change with minimal changes to tooling.

So we can talk paintball guns here?
Madox58
07-30-13, 05:03 PM
For those not involved in AG's? They are not the AG's from the old days like 1920's - 1990's.
Ask people like Jimbuna about what they have to do to own AG's that shoot at what We do here in the U.S.A.
(Air Guns are part of the Olympics incase anyone didn't know that.)
:)

So we can talk paintball guns here?
I'd think that would be OK. It falls under AG's in many respects.
If you check out the SMG 22? It is a Tippmann paintball gun with design changes.
It uses the same fittings and stuff to hook in whatever you use as the propellent.
CO2, HPA, Nitrogen.
There's also propane powered Airsoft guns out there.

So for hunting the North American piece of paper, would you recommend .22 or .17?
I have been dreaming of getting a nice target air pistol for years. Sounds like a nice hobby.

For just plinking paper and the odd can or 2?
The .177 is plenty.
Flatter trajectory then the .22 but less take down power if you plan on any 'critter control'.
The Crosman pumps are a deal at under $70.00 new.
Do the Amazon bit here and Neal gets a cut also.
I did that for the 1322 and the SMG 22.
:)
You need a license here to own one and anyone who is found with one that's not licensed faces the same penalties as if they were an unlicensed firearm.
Fired a few .22's and BB's years ago when laws were a lot laxer.
Good to know Nancy is keeping an eye on your fire zone.:03:

Grant,
Are AG's regulated like in 'Jimbuna Land'?
:haha:
As long as they are under a set limit no license is needed?
Ah. Never mind. I checked and see you all can't even have one without a license.
If I get the job I applied for, I'm gonna buy this one:
http://www.guns.com.pl/photos/hw45e.jpg
Weihrauch HW-45
(In the US, Weihrauch is known as Beeman)
One of the strongest and most expensive PCA (dunno of you use this abbreviation anywhere outside Poland...it stands for pre-charged compressed air).
In Poland you don't need a license if the gun's power is below 17 Joules.
This one is around 9-10 depending on the pellets used, so it's pretty strong as for pistols.
Grant,

Got a chance to fire off a few rounds with the 125 .25 cal Sniper today.
Scope is zeroed at 55 yards and I was targeting 40 and 70 yard targets.
That required hold over or hold under through the scope.
70+ yards? dropped the beer bottles everytime.
40 yards? Made the skull target spin.
:D
Now the .25 at 70 yards will do bad things to anything it hits! So it's not a toy!

It was in Maine and had some mods done to it. Cost $113.00 shipped.
It has the Trail shrouded barrel with a custom trigger.
No sights or scope I took a first shot looking down the rail.
Hit a 4" target at around 35 yards!

Webley Mk3, .22 cal. :sunny:
Each piece hand crafted, matched and assembled.
Apparently when production ceased, another manufacturer approached webley for the design and tooling, as they wanted to continue production, and no doubt, make a quick buck.
Webley took them out the back to show them. Design was a set of paper drawings, and the tooling consisted of a bunch of old engineers and a rack of hand tools. No CAD/CAM, no presses or fancy equipment.
For some reason, the sale never eventuated. :hmm2:

The Silver Kodiak arrived today.
A quick inspection showed excess lube on the breech which is a sure sign of detonation in the compression chamber. That is a piston seal killer!
Breech seal is toast and a piece of seal is in the barrel. Pretty sure it's part of the piston seal.
I'll order parts after I take it apart as it is possible the piston is damaged.
I'm also thinking of replaceing the Spring with a Gas Piston.

Under 500fps and 4.2 ft / pnds
Canada
Air guns with both a muzzle velocity greater than 152.4 meters per second (500 feet per second) and a muzzle energy greater than 5.7 joules (4.2 foot-pounds) are firearms for purposes of both the Firearms Act and the Criminal Code. Usually the manufacturer’s specifications are used to determine the design muzzle velocity and energy. Air rifles that meet these velocity and energy criteria are classified as non-restricted firearms, while air pistols are classified as restricted if their barrel is longer than 105 mm or prohibited if their barrel length is 105 mm or less. The lawful possession of these airguns requires that the owner have a valid firearms license and that the airgun be registered as a firearm.
Air guns that meet the Criminal Code definition of a firearm, but that are deemed not to be firearms for certain purposes of the Firearms Act and Criminal Code are those that have a muzzle velocity of less than 152.4 meters per second (500 feet per second) and a maximum muzzle energy of 5.7 joules (4.2 foot pounds). Such air guns are exempt from licensing, registration, and other requirements under the Firearms Act, and from penalties set out in the Criminal Code for possessing a firearm without a valid license or registration certificate. However, they are considered to be firearms under the Criminal Code if they are used to commit a crime. The simple possession, acquisition and use of these air guns for lawful purposes is regulated by provincial and municipal laws and by-laws. For example, some provinces may have set a minimum age for acquiring such an air gun. These air guns are exempt from the specific safe storage, transportation and handling requirements set out in the regulations supporting the Firearms Act. However, the Criminal Code requires that reasonable precautions be taken to use, carry, handle, store, transport, and ship them in a safe and secure manner.[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_gun_laws#cite_note-3)
Carrying one of these firearms is permitted for those aged 14 or older.
Suppressors for all firearms, including airguns, are prohibited in Canada.

A version of the Girandoni air rifle was made in Philadelphia by one Isiah Lukens, who was also a watchmaker and gunsmith like Bartholomaus Girandoni. The Lukens version of the rifle had a capacity of 23 bullets, instead of 20 bullets that the original rifle had. One of these rifles was custom-made by Isiah Lukens for Meriweather Lewis, who carried it with him on the famous Lewis and Clark expedition from 1804 to 1806 (for non-American readers, the Lewis and Clark expedition was a famous scientific and exploration expedition that discovered a land route from the city of St. Louis, Missouri to the west coast of the United States.) Meriweather Lewis is recorded to have used this rifle to impress several Native American tribes, who were all amazed by its repeating capability and the fact that it made less noise than a conventional firearm." Essentially: A repeating rifle with the same punch as 1911 colt .45! and able to penetrate a 1 inch plank.

Fired to good effect, as a demonstration, to all tribes encountered...Air power in 1804; clearly the assault rifle of the day BBY! I got my M712 from AirGun Depot. Best price and they know thier stuff.
Great company to deal with and highly recommended by me.

The Wooden "9" grips I ordered from Ebay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/i6C-WWI-WWII-GERMAN-9mm-C96-BROOMHANDLE-MAUSER-WOODEN-W-RED-9-PISTOL-GRIPS-PAIR-/310783174233?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item485c1ee659
The Wooden Stock/Holster I'll order from here.
http://airsoft.tiger111hk.com/p12558/EAIMING-Genuine-Wood-Stock-with-Leather-Sling-for-HFC-M712/product_info.html?language=en
The "9" grips are just to see if they fit and get a pattern from. I plan to have a Stock Maker cut me some custom grips out of some good wood.
Then I'll probably get a different Leather rig for the Stock and cut the Stock for the longer Mag with the M712.

Stock up on CO2 carts if you buy the M712!
You'll get about 3 18 round mags full of BB's out of 1 cart!
The blow back action eats a lot of gas!
But it's as close as I'll ever get to owning a real M712 so I can deal with it.
:D
Oh. And congrats on the Nudie looking award.

Just picked up a Ruger Blackhawk Elite .177 caliber 1200 FPS break barrel. Out of the box you need to think about tightening up all the fasteners that hold the darn thing together with blue locktite, otherwise your shot pattern will be all over the map. Scope is nothing to write home about but sufficient for hitting tree rats at 20 yards.
all in all I like it.

They are nicer then I expected though.

I didn't like the gloss on the "9"s so I hit them with steel wool.
The "9"s are the top set. The bottom grips are the stock plastic.
Notice there are imperfections on the "9"s and the plastic are so danged perfect!
I find the flaws in the "9"s make them more perfect.

Don't remember if I posted this before so here it is anyway.
Twas a few nights after Christmas, when from the top of the house
A creature was stirring, Maybe a mouse?
The Wife in her stockings screamed "You don't seem to care!"
So to avoid an arse whooping decided to peek up there.
The children are long gone so it falls on my head,
to be mauled by a rabid squirrel desturbed from it's bed.
So I throw on my Carharts and my SMG-22 cap,
take a few hits from my Special Beer tap.
I go out on the lawn and fight with the ladder,
When Nancy peeks out and says What the Heck's the matter?
"Away from the window!" I yelled at my Honey!
Twas at this point the neighbors seen it was funny.
Me stumbulling 'round in the new-fallen snow,
Drunk as a loon with no pants on below.
Wrestling a ladder and getting my arse beat?
They'll post it to Youtube thinking it's neat!
With the posts to Facebook, so lively and quick,
They videoed me as I got really sick!
More rapid than IRS agents they came,
But my vomiting by now seemed really tame!
"Now Dangit! You ladder! I'll recycle your butt!
Unless you co-operate and get against the hut!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall,
I'm pretty sure that's where I took a great fall!
Now the leaves I was smokeing might not be legal,
But you can fly to the sky just like an Eagle.
So up the ladder my dumb arse went,
Armed with an Air Gun and a mind that was bent!
And then, in a panic, I heard in the attic
The growling and pawing of a creature quit manic!
As I thought in my head, about turning around,
out of the opening it came with a bound!
Now I think it was furry, with claws on each foot,
I couldn't tell as in my eyes it through soot!
A bundle of joys it definitly was not!
A world of pain it definitly brought!
The eyes! How they Glowed! Was I going crazy?
It's feet were like razors, It's all so hazy!
His drooling little mouth got close to my neck
So I jumped from the ladder said what the heck?
The air gun I had was nowhere to be found
and the Demon above was coming down!
I landed on the porch knocked out of breath
and the Bastum kept coming to deliver my death!
The neighbors are filming and laughing with glee,
I'm fighting for my life with nowhere to flee!
A twist of my head, the air gun I spot,
I knew I should have bought that scope with red dot!
Not a sound did it make, but went straight to it's work,
Didn't see me grab the air gun, stupid jerk!
Laying the barrel aside of it's nose,
I said a quik prayer, up in the air it's brain rose!
He fell off me and gave a sad death yell,
That's when Nancy came out and said "What the Hell?"
Now the creature is dead and I'm probably a Youtube star,
Thank God this Christmas is over with only a scar!

Funny twist on the classic. :O:
The air gun I picked up is a bit older version of one I already have, and I think Crossman sells a new version of these. The one I already have is a late 60's model and it's pretty close to this one. Both fire .22 pellets sown an eight inch rifles barrel. Great guns.

Here's the other new Legends air gun. The all metal PO8. I went ahead and bought replacement wood grips as this version can use them whereas the earlier plastic Legends PO8 needed a grip to come off easily to change the CO2 cartridge.
I just got the grips reshaped so that they fit but they need more work before I'll truly like them. Here are both Legends guns next to my 1916 DWM.

That's pretty sweet and made by Colt too! This is a renaissance for BB guns. Airsoft has had a niche for replica BB guns for quite awhile which was only marred by the ban. I've got one pre-ban green gas Japanese replica of a SW .38 Police Special that is very realistic down to the SW logos. This one looks very promising.
I have to say I love air guns and have a fairly large collection of older, and newer Daisy's, as well as a few more powerful types. For me they have all the fun of firearms with almost none of the hassle. Build a BB trap and you can shoot all you want in your basement, or whatever.

Think I showed this one in another thread. My first 'adult' pea shooter. Using GAMO 4.5mm Red Fire polymer tip pellets it is deadly accurate for a rifle under $80.00. Went into overkill mode and replaced the stock scope with a Crosman CP 4 x 16 40mm second focal plane Mil-Dot. Zeroed in at 25 yards and 57 confirmed kills since last fall when Operation Tree Rat first began.

When I first read this, I thought you said "punching through 5 plastic buckets!"

Hi All, I have a 1979 BSA Meteor breach loader, was in a state when I got it, so I stripped it down, removed the broken spring, degreased it completely with brake cleaner, drilled the transfer port to 1/8th", then counter sunk it with a rose drill bit then polished it till it shone! Polished the entire cylinder and piston
lubricated the assembly with dry PTFE lubricant, fitted a Titan XS mainspring and reassembled the rifle! Somewhat of a difference! I would not want to be on the business end of it! Had some lovely rifles in my time, the best I think was a BSA Airsporter underleaver, lovely rifle.

I have two Gamo air rifles and neither of them shoot straight. The POI shifts and I blame the Gamo Scope not holding up to the shock of the Inert Gas Technology System.
Jeff-Groves
09-09-16, 06:26 PM
Scopes can be the cause of POI shift.
However!
There's a whole lot more that can actually be the cause.
A bad piston seal, a crappy crown, breach seal going bad, loose stock screws, just to name a few things.
I can point you to a dedicated Air Gun Forum with some of the best minds and talent out there if you'd like.
And I'm a Moderator there also.
I actually find any of the gas pistons a little less harsh on scopes.
The Wire spring guns get a forward and backward slam when fired. Both very harsh.
Not to mention the twist the cheaper ones can have.
The Gas springs tend to have just the solid forward slam.
The NP2 system from Crosman has even less of a slam due to the built in shock absorber behind the piston seal.

I'd like to get the Caldwell FieldPod with the Chair built into it. That would be perfect to use for predator hunting. But I'd have to use a 5.56 round instead of my Air guns.
I have the Caldwell Magnum FieldPod but it's heavy at 13 lbs and too bulky to lug around in the field very far.
The chair pod has a way where you can put it on your back and carry it like a pack. That might work for me.

As a general rule?
None of the included scopes with any Air Gun is worth the materials they are made of.

HatsanUSA, the main importer for all Turkish AirGuns, is moving to Rodgers, Arkansas.
Now that is home base to Daisy Air Guns which is now owned by Gamo.
I'm thinking there's more to this move.

Let's look at how to charge a High Pressure Air Gun.
1. Buy a Scuba tank for a fill pressure of 3000 PSI.
2. Buy a SCBA tank for a fill pressure of 4500 PSI.
Now you'll need to take those to some place to get them filled.
3. Let's use a Hand pump at roughly $200 U.S. bucks.
4. Let's use a High Pressure Air Compressor at $1299 U.S. bucks.
Here's a hand pump.

I have a couple but finally dropped the cash for this.

Been awhile since I did some up dating here.
The best I've seen is a 3/4 mile kill shot with a .357 cal airgun!
It had enough FPE on target to blow through a garbage can lid!
(FPE is Foot Pounds of Energy)
I'm currently trading and selling parts and Guns to build something that will do 1/2 mile shots. Not sure what cal yet.
Gonna talk it over with my AG Engineer.

Been awhile since I up dated this thread. So I got a really interesting thing to talk about. My newest Air Gun.
Edgar Brothers XVI which is still not here!
Now you over the pond people may say "What's so special about that?"
Well, They were NEVER imported to the Colonies to start with.
So getting one here is like hitting the Lottery or trapping the Easter Bunny!
It's easier to find a good Rochester Precision Arms Air Gun (Which only saw production for 1 maybe 2 years back in the 50's. Yes. I have one!)
I traded a couple nice Hatsan PCP Rifles for this Frankenstein build.
I say that because it was build by parts and pieces shipped into the Colonies somehow and ended up in the hands of a very good Air GunSmith.
He attempted to improve it from the limits imposed by UK laws but the design will only allow so much power. It's still over what is legal in the UK!
It will never be able to reach the FAC of the Logun S-16xs which was imported into the Colonies for a very short time.
Checking the USPS tracking? I hope it arrives tomorrow!
I have a nice UTG 3-12 SWAT scope waiting for it!

Back to the EB XVI. This Air Gun was a follow over from the Logun S-16 AGs.

Depending on what reviews you read? It was junk or potential Gold.
Given that they are no longer produced? Nor found in the Colonies?
I say Gold. It's always nice to go to a big AG meet with a rare Gun.
Over the years many of the issues have been solved by fans of the Gun so I look forward to this one as I have been looking for a Field Target Gun.
Most of my collection is over power for FT. This Gun can easily be modified to drop power to the UK standards for FT. The large air tank would give me a crazy shot count so would not need to recharge it. Plus it has a regulator on it giving me the same amount or air for each shot! (The regulator was an add-on)

My new .30 caliber Hatsan 135 QE Carnivore with a CP scope from Wally Mart. Gonna sight it in tomorrow at a nearby range. Did take five shots artillery style early this A.M. surprisingly tight group. Mild recoil, very quiet sounds like a champagne cork popping. Loudest sound is when pellet hit the backstop. And of course the very thing I was afraid of happening happened, a small scratch in the stock already.
Still I'm very very very VERY happy

Here it is! The rarely seen in the Colonies Edgar Brothers XVI.
Fitted with a quick disconnect UTG 3x12 SWAT side wheel AO Scope and a quick disconnect UTG Pan/swivel/tilt bi-pod.
I have a Royal Arms grip that I'll put on it also.
:D
This is a .22 cal tuned to shoot over the UK limit of 12 FPE by near 8 additional FPE.

Welp, now Im eyeballin' an AT44 or Hercules Bully most likely .25 caliber. Of course only when Pyramid gets those Nomad 1 or 2 electric pump back stock. Im having a blast with my Carnivore I want more now ;)
I'm thinking of auctioning off my scoped K43 too, like I said brass and powder is much more expensive than pellets.

Several things have taken me way deeper into the Air Gun World.
I am now a Field Tester for a soon to be released Air Gun.
I'm considered the last phase tester as I only shoot 100 yards or more.
The early testing I did in Mesa was at 50 yards max and I demanded 100 yards before I approved of the Gun. So I am being sent a new Gun to test on my shooting range. Not bad! :D
Second thing is the new Gun I bought.
An Evanix Sniper .50 caliber!
Yep! .50 caliber Big Bore! That Gun is going to be modded for max power!
I'm also involved in the development of bullets for a few different Air Guns.
Pellets are nice but when you go to bullets? Your range goes crazy!
