Howdy all. Devs are starting to release a greater number of tournament fighters for PC, which I think is great. If you play one, please consider posting what/who you play here. Dunno if this applies to anyone here, but:
Major Tournaments Agree to Rules Standardization on Player Collusion, Event Coverage Determined by Rule Inclusion and Enforcement (http://shoryuken.com/2013/07/30/major-tournaments-agree-to-rules-standardization-on-player-collusion-event-coverage-determined-by-rule-inclusion-and-enforcement/)

Collusion of any kind with your competitors is considered cheating. If the
Tournament Director determines that any competitor is colluding to manipulate
the results or intentionally underperforming, the collaborating players may be
immediately disqualified. This determination is to be made at the sole
discretion of the Tournament Director. Anyone disqualified in this manner
forfeits all rights to any titles or prizes they might have otherwise earned for
that tournament.

As of this writing, the following tournaments have agreed to institute this rule:

Evolution Championship Series (Includes all Road to Evo events)
Big E Gaming Events (Northeast Championships, Summer Jam, and Winter Brawl)
Canada Cup Gaming (Canada Cup, April Duels)
Community Effort Orlando
Civil War
East Coast Throwdown
The Fall Classic
Final Round
Level|Up Events (SoCal Regionals, Wednesday Night Fights, and The Runback)
MTLSF Events
Northwest Majors
Shadowloo Showdown
NorCal Regionals
Toronto Top Tiers (TORYUKEN, Canadian East Coast Championships)
Treta Championship
Ultimate Fighting Game Tournament

For those not in the know, this stems from the Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (UMVC3) finals at the Video X Games two weekends ago. In that match, EMP Flocker and AGE Chris G picked joke non-standard teams and split the pot afterward.

Note: Video language not safe for work.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m72x9sjShG0

In the wake of that both Capcom and MadCatz (the two main sponsors of fighting game tournaments) came out and said that they wouldn't be taking part in any tournament, regional or weekly, that featured players that acted as such. And so, the tournament organizers made the public pledge that Dowly linked to.

Well, fast forward to this previous Wednesday night at the weekly Next Level Battle Circuit tourney in New York, which was also part of the pledge. The finals of Street Fighter 4 this time featured the same AGE Chris G versus EMP Sanford Kelly this time. After playing seriously with their mains (Sakura and Sagat respectively), they both switch to random characters (Yang and Balrog/Boxer) and have a laugh at the newly instated rules. In response Victor Fontaine, the tournament organizer and the guy running the stream, shut the finals down.

Again, video not at all safe for work due to language. There be some angry, angry people:

Now it seems that sponsors, what few there are, are pulling out. FGC drama best drama.

Losing for a benefit has been and will always be there. You just can't prove it,
if it's done right.

For a fighting game, I would imagine something like "accidentally" pressing the
wrong button at the wrong time and losing the fight would be pretty hard to prove.

You can't prove that there was collusion, but you can prove that they didn't take the event seriously. That drives away both the fans that watch the event and the sponsors that put up the money, as they only do so in order to sell their products to said fans. Ironically, it was Chris G who was complaining about how little FGC tournament prize money was relative to shooters and MOBAs. The difference, of course is sponsors, which he clearly didn't consider both at the last major and on Wednesday.

:haha: What...he can't live of the prize money? guess he should....get a job or better, get a life? Anyway if he wishes to piss on the hands that keeps these tournaments going is his call but I'm pretty sure by who he is sponsored will appreciate it as much as the Tournament Fighter fans are.

Also he really lives in a small world as he hasn't notice how much of a underdog the Tournament Fighters are compared to the online community of the FPS and MOBAs. This might ofcourse improve if more developers port their tournament fighters to the best platform for online play the PC.

I'm a huge fan of fighter games (personal favorite is Dead or Alive 5+).

When it comes to fighting games, I find that the input device is a huge factor. Of course, always follow the advice of using wired and not wireless controllers.

A common favorite is the Xbox 360 controller. I personally HATE it for fighters. The D-pad on that is PATHETIC. The PS3 duelshock is much, much better. I actually love the Vita's buttons, they are just firm enough and cramped enough (but not too cramped).

Now if you are a keyboard guy, trust me, invest in an IBM model M keyboard. unicomp now licensed the legendary design, and are selling brand new ones. If you use the keyboard for more than 2 hours a day typing or gaming, you should really invest in a model m, it is orgasm on the fingertips.

While I agree that the input device is important, I have to disagree about the D-Pad. I know a lot of players that find the D-Pad inputs to be far more precise when using pad. Mad Catz actually makes pads with a six-button layout designed for fighters specifically.

However, that being said, the arcade stick is generally regarded as the device of choice. I own both a Mad Catz Fightstick Pro and the Hori Fighting Edge. Both are very fine sticks, but you should be prepared to drop some cash for the latter.

In my experience, keyboard controls are not desirable at all for a fighting game.

That's just the thing; you need the sponsors. Capcom will lend their name and handle the streaming, but they have thus far stayed away from supporting the tournament financially. A lot of that has to do with the image of the community, which has burned Capcom in the past. So the results end up being an insultingly small pot.

Take the big DoTA 2 world championships running this weekend. The winning team takes home something like $1.7 million US. Split 5 ways, that's $340k before taxes. Contrast that with Xian, who took home something like $7000 US for winning AE at EVO, which is considered the fighting game world championships.

Could've posted it in the bit of news thread but since both SSF and SFxT uses the service.

“Games for Windows Live will be discontinued on July 1, 2014. Although it is available through Steam, Age of Empires Online requires features of the Games for Windows Live service. You can continue to enjoy all the features of Age of Empires Online as the service will remain 100% operational until July 1, 2014 when the server will shut down.”Microsoft still hasn’t responded to requests for comment.
Assuming it’s sticking with those terms, however, that leaves titles previously tethered to GFWL’s hissing tendrils in a tight spot. Games like Bulletstorm, Dark Souls, Resident Evil 5 (which is abysmal without co-op), Street Fighter X Tekken, Iron Brigade, and Dirt 3 may well lose significant chunks of their functionality unless something changes between now and July.

Great good riddance it stinked anyway....but what would it mean for the SSF and SFxT MP because it uses the GFWL service.

Capcom is converting Ultra to use Steam as the matchmaking service. RIP my 3000BP Chun. :wah:

No word on SFxT, but that is fine because the PC netcode is terribad.

That's good news for SSF at least :yep:

I'm not really conerned for SFxT because the netcode just makes it unplayable when you are on different continents and was still hoping capcom one day might take a look at it and say ''you know what sucks, the netcode lets fix it''

Along the lines of SFxT, Combofiend himself has stated that updates are possible depending on how things go with Ultra SF4.

Having played KoF in the past like once or twice must say there's more to it then meets the eye.

All the gauges(block, drive and meter which you can stock), recoveries, counters, mid move cancel into a different move and more stuff.

can't wait for the full release to really sink my teeth into it

HunterICX

Takeda Shingen
09-05-13, 08:45 AM
Yeah, KoF is hard. The input timing is very strict for combos, as are the motions for the inputs themselves. While it is a four-button fighter, it is an extremely demanding four-button fighter. We have it here on console as well, and it is our fourth game for each of us. I've got my Chin/Mai/Takuma team where I swap in Elisabeth sometimes when I get frustrated playing Chin or Mai (I'm probably best with Takuma), but I'm not all that great at the game due to the fact that I don't put the kind of time into it that I do Street Fighter.

You can move cancel in Street Fighter as well, in fact it is a major part of the game, but the timing is a lot looser.

HunterICX
09-05-13, 09:57 AM
Not having that much problems yet with executing moves though those Down(start) and then back and forth ones can be a pita for a d-pad user like me :haha:

and also the retro look of the game is retro
and Terry's Engrish quotes are always a laugh
Awe u Owkey!

It most certainly has that retro pixel art look. That's one of SNK's hallmarks.

One fighting game I've heard is great is Injustice: Gods Among Us. It has a great story and a very good fighting mechanic.

And Communist Superman is a DLC.

Meh, the mechanics are okay (interactables are stupid and the clash system is a pretty lame comeback mechanic). But anyway, if rumors are to be believed (and I do happen to believe them) the game will be coming to Steam sometime before Christmas. I am conflicted as to whether or not I will pick it up. I skipped MK9, but I may grab Injustice. However, if I do I have sworn not to be one of those Batman fanboys or Superman tier whores. I will be true to my mid-to-low tier self and going either Joker or Zatanna.

Good stuff :yep:

Had 2 fights where I had the intertubes all for myself and so far so good when it comes to the netcode as noob as I am in KoF I did give the guy which I fought twice a bit of a time at least it came down to both our last characters before he showed me a hell of a combo :dead:

http://imageshack.us/a/img42/7107/q646.jpg

Injustice is not my thing, interactables are just lame and the clash system is fun to see once or twice but after that it'll become annoying and distracts the focus you have on the fight.

What is interesting is that I like watching Injustice more than I like playing it for those very reasons. It is the opposite of SFxT, where I like playing it, but find it painful to watch.

Just picked up King of Fighters XIII. I have not played any yet you can fight online in the beta.I will get steam rolled I am sure I have not really played any fighting games in over a decade.Still in my prime I caused more than a few people to throw controllers across the day room military discipline having been crushed.

KOF was always my favorite franchise when I used to be regular player years back.I like the Street Fighter franchise pretty well. Most likely will pick one of those if the fighting bug really bites me.Which I suspect it will.

Good stuff Stealhead! :yeah:

If you want, add me to your steam buddy list if you would like to have a match one of these days. The netcode seems to be very forgiving as I live across the pond and the couple of matches I had with Takeda went smooth.

as said earlier KoFXIII is the first KoF game I own and played (apart from the once or twice I played it over at a friends place back in the day) and it's a whole different ballgame then I'm used to in SSFIV and SFxT.

Will do.

I messed around for a bit last night I have an old 360 controller not sure if I like the D-pad feel very much but I was able to pull the motions and the analog stick worked better.I will have to pick up a better controller and maybe a stick.

My Steam: 723RD C.A.T.

I used to play the old time SNK games all the time Fatal Fury,KOF 94,KOF 95 all the mid to late 90's titles also the SF titles. There was always someone in the dorms that had been in Japan that had a NeoGeo and games so other people would buy them. That and of course SNES and PlayStation.

One fighter I never liked was the Mortal Kombat franchise total crap if you ask me the only selling point was the ultra violence and I got enough of that with Alex and his Droogs.
