One of the largest video game space battles ever seen has taken place in the Eve Online game.
For five hours on 28 July about 4,000 players took part in the epic battle between two of the game's biggest alliances.

I used to buy ships in 6V. I was thinking about resubbing, but glad I didn't. Looks like TEST is off to Syndicate. No thanks, NPC Null.
The worst lag I had seen was 50% in 92D when Goons got silly and jumped in their supers. 10% must have been agony.
I've heard EVE called the worlds best interactive spreadsheet, but damn does it make for some awesome and intriguing stories of human psychological behaviour. :yep:

It is, and it isn't. Rumor has it that this fight between TEST and Goons was preceded by one of TEST's directors defecting and making off with the entire contents of the corporate hangar (worth at least several thousand dollars in real-life money). That kind of thing happens frequently, but not necessarily in that magnitude. The corp that I was in during my time with TEST would scam certain prospective members. There were official recruiters, and talking to them would entail legitimate recruitment, but there were also guys that would claim to be recruiters. Those guys would go through the process, get the mark to send over some ships and ISK (in-game currency) and then invite them down to Fountain. Of course, we would be waiting to gank them when they arrived.
The actual gameplay, however, is very much spreadsheets in space. I was even more boring. My primary job was CovOps, and while that sounds sexy, the reality is that most of my time was spent counting the number of capital ships jumping in and out of the bridge hubs.

I gave up on Eve when I started getting ganked by hordes of noobs in noob ships in the so called safe systems. Sure, the cops showed up and blew away the first one to fire at me. Like that was some big loss or something.:-?
I'll never waste another dime on the spreadsheet in space.:hmmm:
My corporation is probably still there waiting for me.

Rule number one of EvE: No place is safe. You consent to PvP action by clicking undock. Empire isn't safe, it's only safer.

I tried eve.. err a long long long time ago. Some time after Earth and Beyond went belly up.
Eve was the first MMO, where i quit and unsubscribed before the first 30 free days were up. It was just god awefully boring. Doing trade runs in E&B was more exciting then eve. Spreadsheet play, and mining was dull. Hell, i think space mining in SWG:JTL was more exciting then eve, and that's saying something.

Lag city i'll bet.
actually, the servers slow everything down
we EVE players call it "tie-Die" a joke word for Time dilation
I'm sure the devs put a whole serer on just that battle.
I hear that test lost and Goons came out on top
