View Full Version : G. H. W. Bush Suppoting 2-year old Cancer Patient

GHWB often takes the blunt end for his one term trying to continue and bolster the wreckage that was Reganomics, but, in the years since leaving office, he has shown more compassion and humanity than a lot of other former presidents (his son included) have shown. A salute to a good man making a good gesture:

I believe his son still sports the fight against AIDS in Africa.

Both Bushes take a lot of heat, and a lot of it is deserved. However, outside of the professional sphere, they are both first-rate human beings.

My bad; forgot about this. I have heard and seen more about his efforts to start a "think tank" (!) recently than any other activities. Even Obama praised his efforts in Africa. Still, GHWB has been far more active and outspoken about humanitarian causes than Dubbya. I have a great deal of respect for GHWB and the human side of his life...

W-ya has always been out of the limelight when at his ranch. I think he will grow restless and emerge in assistance with world affairs. Jimmy Carter has been quite active with Habitat for Humanity.

Yes sir. Father and son were real fine fellows in the picture I saw of them fishing for stripers while floating in their boat above the flooded streets of New Orleans after Katrina. I dunno, maybe they were catching dinner for all those poor souls trapped in the Superdome.

I have not much love for the senior shrub after his less than stellar advice during his term as dear leader.
Claim all of your deductions on your W-4 during the tax year and you can keep more of your money during the year he said... Reading between the lines...
Until Tax time! Then you have to pay through the nose! :stare:
What a rich privileged *******! Just another Skull & Bones man infiltrated into the seats of power where he should not have been. Head of the CIA for awhile and then president. Maybe he's only helping little Timmy to ease his conscience. That or he's bored and it gets him away from the ol' battle ax.:hmmm:

That was Brownie eating dinner and could not be disturbed as NO sank into the goo. Not W-ya. He as busy buzzing the place in Marine 1.

Carter certainly leads the field when it comes to using whatever clout being a former president allows in the aid of humanitarian and charitable causes. Still don't think he was much of a president. He was basically a good, decent, honorable man who, by virtue of being good, decent, and honorable, was ill equipped to survive the shark tank of Washington politics...

GHWB has allied himself with the many causes and efforts of Clinton in an example of where decency trumps politics. Any man who puts humanity first deserves respect...

Incidentally, do you know what Reagan's first major undertaking was as an ex-president? He went to Japan to give a speech touting the virtues and glories of Japanese indiustry and technology. He got paid a million dollars for the speech and pocketed another estimated one million in "honorariums" from Japanese corporations. So much for "Buy American" and supporting the American worker...

I've always liked the Bush presidents.

Everybody screws up...but the whole "Blame Bush" thing just isn't right.

It wasn't all him...apparently nobody wants to blame congress.

---

Anyway, I think it's great that the Bush family is helping out and doing these things. More power to them.

According to Barack Obama, he's going to build his Presidential Library next to Bush's (he also said he would've preferred to have it where he was born, but it had to be in America), and his Library will be called the 'Blame Bush Library'. Obama even presented the plans for the library, showing a giant hand pointing to Bush's Library saying 'He did it'. :har:

Symbols. The cheap way out if you want to save yourself from solid action.

Considering that the Secret Service's agents train to even sacrifice their lives for his, he shouldn't have shaved his head - which does nothing btw as long as there is no magic substance in his hairs - , but pay or at least massively contribute to the hospital bill. They need to run a fund raising show, haven't you read it? Obviously money is a problem then. With such close ties to the Saudi family and business tycoons, I am quite sure that the Bush dynasty, not really known for their poverty themselves, would hardly have noticed it on their banking account.

Or he should have stayed invisible and behind the fenceline, if he did not want to donate. No wrong in that, there is no moral obligation to donate.

Just pathetic or symbolic posturing or talking - that is what kills things immediately for me.

Come on man. I'm not calling you names. What's your problem with me? Others violate the rules as well Jim. You're just riding my butt for whatever reason. Lighten up.

Out of respect for my friendship to Neal I'll take a raincheck.

Good luck. :salute:

I'm not sure luck has anything to do with it anymore Jamie....either the system is currently screwed or....I'll not say it publicly.

Leo Sayer song and the direction of the wind will give you clue enough.

You're not Neal's only friend Jim. We all like Neal. He gave us Subsim and nobody would be here without him including you. :03:

Yeah, I'll admit I test the limits but so do many others on here. You coming after me along with Takeda Shingen are just instigating the problems and getting a rise out of me. Then you infract me for any little things I say or do.

But you calling me a loser is pretty low. That hurt. I haven't been personal and ugly with you just to be ugly and personal. I've made some quick wit/not-so-serious jokes about you just like everyone on here probably has. What is your beef with me anyways? You act like I killed your dog or something.

Allow people to breath a bit on here and maybe even laugh. What's the harm in that?

And what Soopaman2 said earlier about the royal baby and wishing it had down's syndrome was cruel but it was obvious he meant it as a joke in a dark humor kind of way. This is what I'm talking about. Lighten up brother. Damn.

I can understand serious violations of the rules being punishable but not this petty stuff. Not everyone has the same personality type or the same political views and there's going to be arguments and disagreements but that's good in a way because it gets people thinking and deciding who has the winning argument. That's the point of debate.

Just like now. Am I being unreasonable? I don't think so. I think maybe it's you that's being personal and unreasonable. But Neal is going to do what Neal is going to do. I support him and his site. He's asked me to calm down a few days ago and now I think it's time you calm down and relax.

So you going around making nasty remarks to dozens of members is "quick witted/not-so-serious" but if somebody does it to you it is mean and hurtful. In other words, you don't want to be treated the way that you treat everybody else. Respect is to be a one-way street for you. Sorry, but life isn't that way. You want to be treated well, you treat others well. All I have been doing is mirroring your own actions back, and you don't like it one little bit.

And so here endeth the lesson.

Takeda Shingen

Oh, it's you... again. And just like always, trolling for an argument with me. Why?

You're the one that brought me into this immediate discussion. I wasn't going to say anything at all until I saw my handle. And here I am, as you wished. Don't say I never gave you anything.

Pretty good. Off for the summer, which is awesome, but it all starts up again in about 3 weeks. Promoted to chair, which is a salary bump but a lot more work.

Anything new with you?

Ha, for me it's the exact opposite. Summer traffic is getting back to where it was before the recession, meaning a lot more congestion. Nothing like being busy!
My major time off is coming in October/November. Right now I'm planning a trip to the Far East
Promoted to chair, which is a salary bump but a lot more work. Congratulations!

Anything new with you? Similar to yours actually, I got made permanent in the company, also more work and more money. Can't complain :sunny:

As for the thread topic, GHW Bush is I think an underrated President. Good for him! For those saying he should have kept it quiet - people pay attention to things like this first for the person, but they stay for the issue. No one has ever confused GHWB for a limelight-hogger.

Congrats, Takeda; I can't think of a nicer guy the honor could go to. (Sailor Steve will probably take me to task for that sentence.) I hope the work, although greater will be equally rewarding. Good luck to you...
