View Full Version : Need exe-patcher and mod assistance

Hello everyone,

I recently reinstalled the game and got all the mods that I wanted, plus TDW's patcher for patching the exe, but my game refuses to start the campaign, both with the mods enabled and without them. For now, I've disabled all the mods, just to see if the exe if patched correctly, and I can get as far as the bunker, but when I try to start the first patrol (skipped the tutorial) I get a CTD. The same issue occurred when I tried to start with the mods enabled.

Here's the steps I followed for patching:

1. Downloaded, uncompressed the patcher folder in my Downloads folder (C:/Users/~/Downloads/TDW Generic Patcher)

2. Opened the patcher. Used File>Open to point to my SH5 exe and the other files.

3. Clicked yes on all the warnings, and used all the patched except anything related to the orbit listener. I've attached a screenshot of the patcher as it looks like right now.

As regarding the mods, I got most of the mods from Sober's list, and I followed the instructions in his thread about starting a new campaign by skipping the tutorial. I get several 'file missing' warnings when I start with the mods, and in the bunker there's this massive pile-up of UI items which don't go away. I can still walk around the bunker, and when I try to talk to the flotilla officer to start the patrol I get a CTD. Here's my current mod loadout:

Thanks for the quick response. I disabled the render patches but the problem persists. I keep getting 'file missing errors' for some files in the C:~/Data/menu/gui/ directory.

Did you see this label - (FOR ADVANCED USERS!) when you have enabled Enables game messages to be displayed in-game patch? are you advanced user?

Now that you mention it, I didn't see it in the patcher. I had been looking for it (because I did not want to enable it- I'm no advanced user heh.) Will look again now.

Update: The unmodded campaign is starting and plating without problems after I disabled the render patches.

I turned off the message settings in the patcher but the game is still not working properly with mods- I still get a massive crush of UI items in the bunker and they don't go away. On the plus side, I'm not getting those missing file errors anymore.

Trying to take a screenshot of the bunker but the prntscreen key isn't capturing it

I've tried that. No response when I try to 'paste' it. Does ctrl+F11 save the screenshot in a particular directory?

Thanks. Sorry, I've never taken a screenie on SH5 before. I've attached them below, one screenshot taken in the bunker, the other while on a patrol, through the attack periscope. For some reason they're coming out black and white and slanted. In-game its all in colour, not slanted and the column of buttons in the extreme right (right above the SH5 style depth meter) is actually on the left.

It looks like corrupted files :hmmm:

1. Did you update the game to v1.2.0?
2. What tool/app did you use to unzip archives? NewUIs archive in this case..

Yeah I updated to 1.2. Used 7zip to unzip the files. I just tested the game with ONLY the New UI mod applied, its working correctly. There must be a mod conflict, or perhaps my load order is wrong. I just wish I could pinpoint it

As a standalone app.I just got rid of most of the mods from the loadout, keeping only the 'core' mods that I want, in the following order, and I'm still seeing the same error:

I just tried a different mod order with OH2 before TDW's UI, it seems to be working. Wish I remembered how to open the ship recognition manual...no worries, ill find it.

I saw that mod listed in the New UI thread, thought its an update for the depth scales, so I got it.

Click the charts icon. Drag SOAN out from upper left side of screen

OHII must be after the NewUIs.. otherwise it won't work correctly..
Gap Depth Scales was for the v7.2.0.. v7.4.2 already contains it..

Thanks for the info on the gap depth scales mod. But when I try to put NewUIs before OHII, i get that damn screen mess. Ugh!

Open up the Generic Patcher and read all the patch notes (Notes= and Files=) of each patch you have enabled. Double click them to view if they don't say None

Almost all of them have none in both fields (mostly the bugfix patches). Some have some files e.g. the independent engine controls but no notes.

I focused specifically on the torpedo patches. From what I've seen, only the following patches have something in the files section but nothing in the notes section. I tried double clicking, no effect.

From SHSim Torpedo patches:

1. Torpedo premature chance fix
2. Torpedo circle runner calculation
3. Torpedo gyro problems chance fix
4. Torpedo gyro deviation calculations
5. Torpedo depth keeping problems fix
6. Torpedo impact angle fix
7. Torpedo dud chance fix

I used the torpedos set to impact detonation exe patch and also chose the option in the UI options application, is that causing problems?

EDIT: I was experiencing this condition when i used an alternative mod order (see post no. 17), its possible with the new mod order (post 24) this issue will go away. I haven't been able to test yet as i experienced a CTD before encountering anything in the first patrol

Newer EDIT: The issue is still there. Just tested the TDW Tutorial mission. 5 out of 6 torps were circular runners. both with manual and auto TDC

Update: I cut out the crew uniforms mod and the updated depth scales mod (the gap one) and now I can start the campaign. Still, suffered a CTD on the first patrol. This is the current mod order and list:

Looking at your mod soup you are missing the mod
FX Update torpedoes (modified for torpedoes failure patches)

Within your extracted TDW_GenericPatcher folder you'll find a MODS folder. Within this MODS Folder you'll find a

All the torpedoes modified for torpedoes failure patches (GenericPatcher add-on).7z file
Decompress this file and youl have 4 Mods

FX Update torpedoes (modified for torpedoes failure patches)
FX Update torpedoes - MagDet range 3m (modified for torpedoes failure patches)
Stock torpedoes (modified for torpedoes failure patches)
Stock torpedoes - MagDet range 3m (modified for torpedoes failure patches)
and a readme.txt

active one of the four mods
the first or second named "FX Update torpedoes..." have to be after
FX_Update_0_0_21_ByTheDarkWraith which is listed in your mod soup as stated in the readme file.

with doing so you'll have realisic torpedo failures but not mentioned 5 out of 6

I had a similar mod list when I had CTDs. One or both of the intertia mods is not needed anymore. The inertia problems and CTDs was discussed under the threads of open horizons, or sober's mod list, or TDW SH5 patcher or Multi UIs for SH5. I started a new game in the bunker and all of a sudden I am getting CTDs after updating the mods list.
