View Full Version : Hi Def Interface - Manual TDC Problems

I'm just getting into SH5 after being a lifelong SH3 player. I always do 100% realism and manual targeting, which I always did with the OLC Gold mod on 3. I've just got Hi Def Realistic Interface 2.1, which is beautiful. All the dials and buttons are exactly what I'm after, so my thanks go out to all you modders out there.
I can estimate range no problem, with the wheely dial. However when I click the U-Jagd on, I then closed it. The U-Jagd button on the bottom of the screen diasppeared, and I can't get it back even with full reinstalls. However, I got a screenshot and printout of the U-Jagd before I closed and lost it, so I identified a ship and timed it manually - but all the speeds it gives me are 3-4kts slower than in actuality.
Can anyone help with getting the U-Jagd back on this mod? And how is speed supposed to be estimated on manual targeting (ie without the Weapons Officer)?
Thanks in advance for your help chaps. Apologies if it's a bone question, or in a manual I can't find, but this is all a little new. The novelty of having to walk about the boat hasn't quite faded yet.
Hi Gustav, and welcome to SH5
The UI mod that you are using is very outdated; I suggest you enabling one of the following mods instead:
NewUIs with TDC (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=1332669#post1332669) by The Dark Wraith
CSP Magui Interface (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=1619743#post1619743) by DrJones
or even:
Ui-Boat (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=1459155#post1459155) by the same reaper7
Beware that the latter is not being futher developped at present, so it could miss some features and/or the needed support. Yet, still much better than the UI you are currently using :03:

Thanks a lot Gap - very helpful indeed, I did some scouting around and plumped for DrJones' interface. As an SH3 player it feels very familiar...
Supplementary questions to anyone who uses it:
How can I switch the language from German to English? I'd ideally like German voices but English menu and interface text
Is it possible to do totally manual targeting? I can work out speed and AOB, but how does one calculate range without map contacts and the 3:15 method? Not quite got the hang of the stadimeter on this yet
Thanks for your quick response again, Gap! :salute:

Good choice.
At some point you might want to give a try to New UIs as well, as it provides support for real navigation, automated scripts, and for some other new features added to the game through TDW's patches.

Scroll down in Magui's download page to the "Language Packs" section. :03:

If you got you target in visual range you can use the RAOBF, otherwise you can estimate target's course, range and speed by plotting hydrophone bearings on map (four bearings method)
Thanks for your quick response again, Gap! :salute:
My pleasure Gustav :)

Thanks again Gap - and I perhaps should have read the whole post before asking for help on the language thing, so sorry 'bout that but it's all working now.
Still having problems trying to replicate my old 100% realism - basically with OLC I had a setup where:
ID ships manually in the manual
Estimated speed by manually timing with an U-Jagd
Then use the RAOFB wheel to get the range
Estimating the AOB by sight
Essentially, I want to get as close to IRL as possible. My problem is, even on 100% realism, as soon as I lock onto the target the speed, range and heading are all instantly fed in. I tried targeting without locking, but I couldn't get the recognition manual to work (just says 'multiplayer', no ships loaded onto it?).
Also can't seem to find the RAOFB wheel for range estimation. The stadimeter in the top right doesn't seem to be manually controllable - it just acts as a laser rangefinder giving me the exact distance whenever I'm locked onto target.
I feel a bit thick and I bet I'm missing something dead obvious. I did try the manuals but since they're all for map contact targeting, they weren't really what I was after. Thanks if you can help again! Hopefully soon some nice juicy 10,000-tonners will be sent to the bottom with expertly-placed torpedo shots...

get out of Gamey mode by clicking on the XO's picture in the scope view. Then select turn TDC on. Now the gamey part of it automatically computing a firing solution will be removed.

Thanks TDW - sorry for the late reply. But tried that and I'm now targeting manually, no problems. Thanks for the help.
