Just installed it. Man, this is totally different from Silent Hunter 4. The game seems to run fine on my Laptop, but how do I jump from one part of the sub to another? I miss those icons :) I'm trying to get up the ladder...haven't even managed that yet LOL. Is everything first person in this game? I'm really going to have to read up on this game. :)

If you install TDW's UI you can teleport from station to station, but I recommend to walk around through the submarine ;) The ladders can be a bit challenging. The trick is to approach them from the front without looking up too much. Good luck in your updated game ;)

I recommend not even trying to play the game until you patch it with my Generic Patcher. There are many bugs that need to be fixed/patched out.

Any UI mod will give you the familiar SH3 icons back. If you want SH4 style interface you have that option in my UIs mod.

Lastly, you need to update the game's AI with my IRAI mod. Without it the AI useless.

Install 4 mods and then start a new campaign following the specific instructions on how to start a campaign using open horizons 2 campaign mod .
Extract this patcher to your desktop and enable what you want . Dont enable advanced users or experimental ATM . Look in the MODS folder and enable (Stock torpedoes modified for torpedoes failure patches) found in the patcher .

Enable this with jsgme but before enabling go to the options editor found in NewUIs_TDC_ByTheDarkWraith\data\Applications .

Enable the AI mod

Enable the campaign mod but follow the specific starting a campaign with OH2 which are on the first page of the thread .

Then be amazed .
PS: climb down the hatch at least once before teleporting to another station .

Face the ladder on the correct side. You should see the bow and stern planes station off to the left. move as close to the ladder as possible continue forward into the ladder. You will automatically start up the ladder. Keep moving forward even when you level out in the conning tower keep going up to the Bridge.
Down:
Move to a position that you can see the open hatch. Point yourself towards it and keep moving forward. You should find yourself descending the ladder. When you get into the conning tower you will reach the bottom of the first ladder and wind up looking straight ahead. Stop and back up. Look down at the open hatch and move forward

Thanks, Guys. I find SH5 really strange having grown up on SH3 and SH4. I have reloaded SHIII with GWX3.0 and I'm much happier with that game. I may revisit SH5 at some point. Thanks. :)

You will miss out on many improvements/fixes if you use the Steam version of the game.

I originally considered picking up Silent Hunter 4, one of the key reasons being that I liked the Pacific setting; but after watching J2JonJeremy's "Let's Play Silent Hunter 5" series on Youtube, along with all the cool mods found here for it, I decided to pick that up instead

The game is broke without my Generic Patcher. You might as well pick up the DVD version for $5 from Amazon.com

SH5 is so cheap now, so it's not a big problem to buy a DVD or PC download copy..

Indeed......picked up SH5 on sale off of gamersgate for under 3 dollars. This was the first of this series I have played. Threw in a couple mods TDW stuff LOL. Good times mainly. Some random crashes here and there with mods.. But decided to pick up sh4. But for some odd ball reason not being able to run around the insides of the sub fighting with that damned ladder......well I think I prefer sh5. :haha: WITH MODS. Back story with the crew in 5 is quite nice. Being dumbed down a bit to much on release.....NOT NICE. I have feeling this was set by dumb arse guy at UBI who needs to hang themselves with their corporate suicide noose (tie).

I really got into SH5 during the Norway bit in the beginning.

don't forget u can use shift-U from the gun to the bridge and from any location in the boat to the bridge when surfaced. Saves a banged knee on the ladder!:arrgh!:
