Jim isn't a beast. He's a British ex-policeman most famous for his contribution on Grey Wolves Expansion, an unofficial add-on for Ubisoft's 2005 title Silent Hunter III. He also serves as a moderator for the SubSim forums, which were founded in January of 1997 by a Texan named Neal Stevens.

Is it clear now?

To me it came across as BH wasn't referring to Jim, but rather human nature in general. As in it's human nature to sometimes engage in heated debate.
Peace:)

"The nature of the beast" is an old saying, meaning "that's the way it is". In this case Bubblehead is referring to the fact that GT topics sometimes get heated. I don't agree though. We have certain standards we try to adhere to, even in GT. It's gotten to the point in that thread where people are repeating the same things over. Nothing new is being added except for more insults.

If Neal decides to open it up again, then it opens. If not it remains locked. End of story.

It's not censorship to pause a discussion when its getting too rowdy, is it?

.The liberals thought they were so smart by putting 6 women on a self defence jury after running around the country and saying women should puke or pee themselves to defend against rape....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ca9GuwuOVZc And can anybody tell me how many police states have Subsim. com or facebook. I must apologize for leaving the gates to hell open, I didn't know that copying off my facebook page left an open link to Uncle Sams MisGuided, like I said there's alot more people more farther right than I, and by the looks, better armed. I always wondered what a banana republic looked like,, didn't expect to live in one,..

Jim is not a bad guy. I'll +1 that.

You've clearly not met him.:O:

He likes to joke but I like him. He's a nice guy.

Another +1 here.

Yes, I was referring to nature of debates concerning controversial issues, not Jim. I have seen a few threads get locked up because it gets heated, shutting down a debate helps no one, that was the point of op.

I've seen threads locked down over my time here.

Usually, it's a good thing when threads are locked down during a heated discussion. :o

Uhm, actually it does. It is called moderation and prevents that people fight each other instead of discussing the actual topic.
The thread, about the Zimmerman case, went down fast and hard. All "sides" said what they had to say, opinions are very well known. At that point, simple discussions can quickly turn into personal fights - perfect time to lock it up.

Well I've certainly nothing to add to what I posted in the thread in question at the time of closure and those comments above in #6 and 7.

beyond that people where violating the forum rules.

If people violate the forum rules, I hope that warnings/infractions/etc were issued as they are in other cases. While things can get heated, we all need to stick within the rules of the forum. For those who were not doing so, correction is appropriate and I trust - provided. Otherwise I would ask why it is dealt with differently in other posts.

*I noted that there were some folks on both sides of the issue going a bit off the deep end. Doesn't matter what "side" someone is on - we all like this site and the rules keep it the place it is.*

Across the nation, maybe even the world, that topic got way more attention then it deserved. I'm glad it's locked. There are far more important things to worry about then a scenario, that by way of comparison, is mundane and unimportant.

As stated in this thread, the case is tried. Both sides have been looked at and over in the original thread. There will be no great revelations and earth shattering new evidence with continuing the original thread. Everyone has posted their thoughts based on factual evidence and or speculation. Some posted using both. Some are in disbelief in their hearts. The problem is, in a court of law, hearts do not matter much. Decision is based on facts and laws.

When what ifs are introduced it is time to move on.

Not to mention it was getting a bit ugly. We don't care for ugly.

AVG - there have been some additional info - mainly from the "friend" Rachel who testified. That info came courtesy of the interviews she is doing on the circuit (circus) of various channels - such as CNN.

However, the info is not significant other than continuing to paint TM in a negative light - which is why its not being heavily reported.

CNN is basically the only one continuing to drum up ratings with this case with any vigor . Jeantel might find it is in her best interest to stay silent. Any negative reporting is back page news. No one likes egg on their face.

The thread was closed because members were getting heated. Time for a breather. Best maybe to move onto the next latest and greatest.

I avoided that thread like the plague; I more or less had a fair idea of where it was going to go and how it was going to end up. If Neal or Jim or any other moderator feels there is a good reason to lock a thread, I respect their decision. It's not censorship, it's calmer heads prevailing. If anyone feels they really, really have the unquenchable need to flagellate deceased equines, there are plenty of other places on the Net to vent their particular brand of opinion...

My lord, you have no idea how many times in the past I have wished I could do this...

It was not labelled a hate crime. The issue these days are not the crimes themselves. It is about race and is there any profit in it if promoted.
