What are some of your guy's favorite tactics to use, an what kind of search patterns do you set up?? Me personally, I love when I get a convoy on the hyrdophone's an I'm infront of them w/ them heading in my direction, which gives me time to get in a good position. I normally like to attack from outside the convoy after the lead an destroyers pass me by before I launch my eels. Sometimes if I'm feeling lucky I'll either set my self up so I'll be inside the convoy or I'll try to sneak my way in, to go after the the bigger tankers an cargo ships that are always in the middle/center of the convoy. Also I usually fire 2 eels at a target, unless its a smaller ship then I send just 1 set to magnetic det thnks to Wraith's torpedo patch thing:salute:. When it comes to search patterns I alternate between a shoe string search pattern or what I call the rectangle pattern. It depends on the area I'm searching which determines the pattern, like open ocean I use the rectangle, but if land is near or on both sides like the area that funnels into Gibraltar, or I'm hunting between Scotland an Ireland I always use the shoe string for that 1.

When i search for any freighters and convoys im doing zigzag formations on the map. When i spot a convoy nearing my position
i try to go submerged on silentspeed next to them.

This way i can hit freighters from the side, when its night i attack at a very close range about 200/300m away from the target :dead:
hitting as many ships i can, then i go to a depth of 150m standard below the convoy and shutting everything off and staying put for a while.

Destroyers are getting frustated searching for me when all those freighters stand in the way :har:
i try to avoid coastal waters because there are to many airplanes patrolling the area
the waters are too shallow, the Canal of Dover is a real nightmare.

Just give me the good old Atlantic :)

Lol when I say the "shoe string" pattern thats what it actually is a zigzag pattern, wow your eel's still detonate @ 200-300 meters?? I could of swore I heard you had to be at least 500m away for your eel's to detonate, I usually attack from 1,000m at the longest an 500m at the closest. When I attack a convoy I ready my first 4 tubes an try to get as many off b4 the escorts home in on me, I've been getting better an better at giving the escorts headaches when they try to depth charge me. Plus I've got my crew upgraded pretty good too, an I just got that Albreicht upgrade, it covers the entire U-boat except for the decking, its all black which looks cool it suppose to absorb the ASDIC an sonar waves if I remember right, idk how good it is since I'm on my way back to my hunting grounds, I'm in the Western Approaches campaign doing the South Atlantic mission gotta sink 75,000 tons hunting between Freetown an I forget the other place. Lucky for me I've ran into 3 smaller convoys that were unescorted!! But mostly its been single merchants, I did pick up a convoy of the hyrdos entering Freetown an it was litterally surrounded by 10-14 escorts I didn't even try to go after it. I know what you mean about the Dover straight, I've gotten pounded a few times in there I try to stay to the deeper sections of it, that's saved me a few times.
