Good day or evening everyone.

I'm not quite sure if this post needs to go here or in the Mods forum.

Moderators or admin, please feel free to move it where it is most appropriate.

My question is this:

Has anyone installed and used the Charts addon by Sublynx.

The last time I added a mod, and didn't install using JSGME, I corrupted a file and was not able to play SH3 for a few days. Talk about withdrawl symptoms.

:/\\!!

If anyone has please Message me with how to get it installed, as I don't want to corrupt any more files.

Thank you in advance.

I'm surprised that I have gotten no response with this.

Normally everyone here in the SH3 threads are so helpful.

There is a document explaining things in the mod file. What do you need more?

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=3675

And the solution to your problem is easy. Use JSGME! If you have other mods than you may need to edit the menu_1024_768.ini file anyway. Just take a copy of what is in your game now, edit that, and plug it back into the right place in the MODS folder. Then enable. And disable when something is edited wrong. There should be no game corruptions this way. 'Easy undo' is the trademark of JSGME!

Thanks Pieces..

I read the documentation, but the volume of things that need to be changed, just being honest, scares me.

I attempted to install the mod using JSGME, and it was unsuccessful, so it would need to be done manually.

If there is a conflict in the menu_1024 ini file, you must edit this file to make the mod work in your set-up. You cannot overwrite this file from previous mods. The best way to modify it is to use WinMerge. http://winmerge.org/
This is the only way to use both mods.

Unfortunately that is the way the game works with this menu_1024_768.ini file. You add those code blocks at the right place, and make sure the I-numbers at the end of the square bracket is sequentially increasing starting from what was already there. If other mods also have modified this file then you need to mesh these changes together. (append to the end of the sequences) The game will have a fit if it finds inconsistencies in the sequence.

I suppose there is an automated tool to do this as Irish1958 pointed out. But I don't know how trustworthy it is. But the process is simple, so a program could easily solve it. I never tried it

A little bit of investigation in how JSGME works is worth avoiding a ton of frustration you'll get if you don't. If you create a folder named "MySublynxMapMod" (or whatever you like) in the MODS folder, extract the "Data" folder into it from the modpackage I linked. Then COPY your existing "SH3GameFolder\Data\menu_1024_768.ini" and paste it into "SH3GameFolder\MODS\MySublynxMapMod\Data\menu_1024_ 768.ini". Then modify it as the documentation says. And then enable it. Should work without a hassle.
