Hi i had just a few questions after playing sh3 with gwx3+commander for a few months.

1. when I target a ship I always aim for the first mast but my torpdoes most of the time hit behind the boiler room towards the screws. I use the targeting method outlined in the post titled "The Hunt" written by Danetoc I think. The target range is usually 1200m to 600m. What might cause this? I know its an error in my tdc calculations but i dont know where the point of failure is poping up. Also is the AOB really important because i try to set up a 90 deg angle shot but sometimes it varys between 87 and 93 degrees but i put 90 into the tdc anyways.

2. Is weather only generated around the 8km area around your boat or is generated around the game world because i had bad weather(300m visibility high seas, rain) for a week of game time and gave up because I had thought it was a bug but I never use anything above 64x TC.

3. Finally I was using the Spysat mod and it might have been causing crashes at the loading screen(the 2nd one) but it was picky. Like it always crashed when I started in salamis but only some times when i started at the french bases. the crashes stop when I disabled it. Is this a known issue or just my luck?

Thanks for reading my noob questions.

Do you open the torpedo tubes door before firing?
It looks like that you don't.
When you press the fire button the game opens the tube doors for you but that 2 - 3 seconds needed cause the torpedo to lrave its tube later than intended so it hits aft of the aiming point.

Weather in Sh3 can cause troubles but it is close to reality IMO.
A week (game time) storm is usual.
In any case use H.Sie's realism pack to see some difference not only in the weather but in the game itself.
Stiebler's addons mod is also recommended.

I don't know since I don't use that mod.

You either underestimated the target's speed, or he detected your torpedo (type 1 bubble wake) and sped up trying to avoid it. (what was the weather/day/night conditions?) Since you are doing 'the Hunt', track his position over a long stretch, and calculate it's average speed over like 30 minutes. And make sure he doesn't spot you, because he will start to zigzag/weave. Those turns significantly changes his speed momentarily.

Leading a target at AOB 87 or 93 degrees is only 0.2% different from 90 degrees, so no, it doesn't matter squat. It starts to get important when the AOB is from 0-45 or 135-180, like 'down the throat' shots. But that is not a prefferable way to attack. The target is at it's smallest. Always attack it's broadside, you'll have the best margin of error due to it's length.

2. Is weather only generated around the 8km area around your boat or is generated around the game world because i had bad weather(300m visibility high seas, rain) for a week of game time and gave up because I had thought it was a bug but I never use anything above 64x TC.Yup, it's that pesky thundercloud that never stops hovering over your head. The environment extends about 35 km around you. That's where the weather and all things physical are. Beyond that it's just abstract unit position information in the game's mind/memory. The weather is based on random number generations is known for it's long stretches of no changes. This can be extended if you frequently save your game, as a timer get's reset. But the developers also admitted they might have left a few bugs in the weather generator. Oh well, suck it up, and weather it. ;)

Thanks for reading my noob questions.Sorry, never used the spysat mod. Iirc it's Jimbuna that made that. I'm sure he'll stop by in a minute or so.

the spy sat mod you are refering to and crashing approx how far is the game loading before it crashes? though if i had to suspect a cause it is the campaign_RND.mis file. if you have any other mods that affect that particular file before or after you activated it it is possible the files are not syncing properly causing said crashes

thank you for your replys. I found out the issue with the torpedoes. since I use gwx3 it has the measurment overlay when you zoom in. the problem was that i started my measurments to the target at the 100m mark not my boat. Noob mistake I know

the load bar would load about 95% of the way and then crash but since i disabled it I have not had any issues.

Another question. What do you guys do or recommend when cruising. I have developed a problem where I get extremly bored while my boat is en route to its patrol station since I never go over 64X TC. It is getting a bit offputting. should I just load up a movie or read? Im not sure how you guys manage it but any suggestions would help. Also same question when you encounter horrible weather for a long time. Thanks

I am playing at max TC 128 and yes it is boring to get to your patrol area especially if that is far away.
I let the game run , having set the volume in a high level , so that I will be warned if something happens. Meanwhile I read a book or I watch TV.

i personally read a book but i will occasionally pull out the old atari or PS2 and play on those as well or take a nap.
