I Figure someone's going to make the topic.
I'm highly anticipating the release for the game in September.
For those who haven't been following the game, here's some highlights from the information released so far:
3 Main characters,Trevor, Michael, and Franklin. Each have their own personality and hobbies. You can switch characters via a pop up wheel. In free-roam you can switch characters at any time, but during missions, there are certain moments when you can not switch. Friend activities will return from IV, but you can also hang out with the other 2 protagonists.
Main characters live their daily lives when you're not playing them. They can be in many different scenarios when you switch over to them. For example, When you switch over to Michael you may find him interacting with his two children. Switching over to Trevor, and you might find him standing over a group of bikers he just killed.
Weapons are selected from a weapon wheel, fluidly run and gun from the hip while still maintaining complete control of the reticule, Combat jog' that allows you to move at high speeds with your weapon out, but not raised, camera pulled back when zoomed in over the shoulder to open up players' field of vision, combat roll to move strategically from cover and evade incoming fire, reticule switches from white to red to identity an enemy, tiny 'X' flashes over the reticule when targeted enemy is killed, variable targeting options including free aim, soft lock, and hard lock (similar to Max Payne 3) and smoother transitions when moving in and out of cover.
The map is open from the start. No longer do you have to play through the story to advance the map.
According to Game Informer, the numbers of Vehicles and Weapons is larger than any previous GTA.
You can dive underwater. You may find treasure underwater, but there are also sharks to contend with. You can get diving equipment from some boats.
You can purchase a fuel canister to douse items with fuel, and then light said object on fire. If they haven't changed it, you can also light a trail of fuel.
Vehicle Customization: Paintjobs, wheels, window tints, grills, spoilers, along with robust performance upgrades to suspension, engine, brakes, and more that make meaningful changes to the way vehicles feel and handle
Weapon Customization: Silencers, scopes, extended mags, laser sights, and more
RPG elements return from SA: Stamina, Shooting, Strength, Stealth, Flying, Driving, Mechanic, Lung Capacity. Trevor will always be the best pilot, Franklin will always be the best driver but each can improve their proficiency a little. However you can't gain or lose weight.
Police system is like that of RDR or IV where there is a search radius to get out of. However the system goes by line of sight, so if you stay within the radius, but out of LOS, your wanted level will slowly decrease.
Each character has a special ability similar to bullet time from Max Payne. Michael can enter bullet time and mark targets like in RDR, Franklin can slow time while driving to make tricky maneuvers, and Trevor has a rage mode where he does more damages, and receives less.
Map is bigger than GTA:SA, GTA:IV, and RDR combined. Contains Los Santos(rendition of L.A.) and Blaine County. Blaine County is the surrounding country side and is made up of Mountains, desert, and forest.
Heists are the main focus of the game, and there are 8 major ones. The planning and setting up for a heist return from VC and SA, however this time you make the decisions. You can choose outfits, weapons, vehicles and the crew for the heist.
Crew members are hired before the heist and have different skill levels and proficiencies. Higher skilled recruits expect a bigger cut of the heist payout.
You can choose to be stealthy, or use brute force, the final pay out for the heist will alter depending on your choice.
After each heist is complete, you get a briefing that shows you how much money you made(the article I read alluded to the fact you could actually lose money on a heist by making wrong decisions).
In one scenario, the 3 main protagonists are hired by the FIB(FBI) to assault an armored car and steal something out of it. Franklin keeps overwatch from an adjacent building with a rifle, Trevor blocks the trucks route off with a garbage truck, and Michael rams the truck with another truck knocking it on it's side. He then proceeds to blow open the doors with C4 and take what he's after. After a shoot out with the police thanks to the driver of the armored car hitting a panic button, the crew ditch their current vehicle for a getaway vehicle stashed under an overpass. However, this vehicle was not put in place by the mission. It was put in place by the player in the steps leading up to the heist. The player actually had to scope out areas to decide where to put the vehicle. How this was handled has not been detailed yet, as GTA has a habit of despawning unused cars.

I wonder if it's running on an actual ps3, or if it's running on an a special dev unit. If it's the former, it's looking pretty good for an open world game on a 6 year old console.
Also, Rockstar put up a job position for a PC port of one of their games. May be a PC version of V.

Here are some highlights:
The other 3 characters will continue what you were doing when you switch from them in a mission. For example, if you are assaulting a building, you can put Michael into an overlook position with a rifle, start sneaking Franklin around the side of the building to ambush from behind, and charge in with Trevor on a vehicle, as you switch back and forth between the characters, they will continue what you had them doing.
This can also be used when your In a car chase, you can switch to other characters to shoot pursuing cars while the A.I. Drives
If you leave a car somewhere it will show up at the impound. You can retrieve it for a fee.
Cars will leave petrol trails if there fool tank is shot. This can be ignited to blow up the car.
Car customization ranges from cosmetic grills, tires, etc, to bulletproof windows, armor plates and bulletproof tires.

So I just completed the first mission and I'm free-roaming for a bit.
So far I've managed to get into my first fist fight. I was testing the controls and kept honking my horn and flashing my high beams. The car infront of me wasnt too happy and got out to fight me.
Next I encountered some Ballas(gang from SA) infront of the barber shop. One came over and shoved me and I called him an *******. After downing one, and realizing half the map was red dots, I hopped in my car and drove off to the other barber shop. Halfway there I get into road rage with a guy on a motorcycle and in the process of chasing him, I slid my car into a tree screwing up the alignment. I'm having fun though.
The one thing I've noticed is the car handling is different. It's like IVs but different, going to take a little time to adjust.
Also if you are getting the game make sure to go to the life invader website(Facebook and iPad parody) as you can get 10% coupons for use in game. Make sure to register a social club account for free hair styles/beards.
Also there is a free app for smart phones/tablets that lets you choose custom plates for your cars and teach the ingame dog tricks.

I have only watched clips on youtube, but I will pick it up if it comes out on PC.
However from what I have seen I got to say that the car-handling seems to suck big-time, it looks like a no skill arcade approach and I view it as a solid set-back from what I was expecting, I had hoped for a more mature approach.
Fortunalty I think that it is one of the first things that will be modded if it hits PC.

It will (probably) but it always takes a long time, and yet every other company can manage a release on three platforms on day one. Not usually the best ports either, but the inevitable mods kind of make up for it.
I hope the cars aren't all like jelly. :hmph: I like jelly (not the jam!) but I don't like driving it.

I can't quite place the difference but cars feel slightly different to IV. The most notable difference is bikes, they are a lot more grippy then they were in IV.
I just ran into a certain Irish mobster from IV in one of the little random side missions.
I'm not sure what caused it but I heard a large explosion behind me and two regular and one cop car had exploded and were on fire. So I call for fire fighters to see if they finally put out fires again. The truck areives(with new and improved lights) and 4 fire fighters get down(2 were hanging on the back like garbage men do). They all rushed to separate fires and proceeded to put them out with hand held extinguishers. I was amazed.

Rockstar does this crap on purpose. They typically will have an exclusive deal with one console, for x number of months, then release to the other console, and eventually release to pc once the console sales have dried up. Plus their GTA 4 port was pretty crap and still has some major graphics problems for a number of people (z fighting being the most common one).
All in all Rockstar is not, and has not been in my good books for a while. I still buy their stuff for now at least, but if they take forever and then release a bad port for GTA5, they can forget any further sales to me.

I am very impressed. My biggest fear was having a ghost town feeling, not enough life on the streets. Im am positively surprised. Feels much more alive than 4, very immersive. Not even talking about all the stereotypes and brilliant humor in this game. :rotfl2:
The first time I drove out of the city, I had my mouth open. The landscape looks very close to real life, and they even included all the typical asphalt patchwork.
Crashed my ride in a rural area, walked back through a forest then hearing a mountain lion was very eerie. Talking about a city boy running through the woods with his gun drawn, paniced and checking out any direction, haha.
Finally got real time to play it today, softdrinks and snacks are stocked, retired from my social life: Los Santos, here I come.
HAs anyone found German tourists yet? Loved to hunt them down in Liberty City! :arrgh!:
Almost hit another car and he stuck his arm out, it was probably not a greeting. :haha:
You can also return the one finger salute while driving, just unequip your weapon and press the shooting button (L1). Not all cops are fond of this behavior however...:know:

When you liked 4 I guarantee you will love 5. If you want to interact with pedestrians, just press right on the direction pad, and you will be involved. Protip: watch out in which part of the city you do so....

I love how different each character feels and how in depth their backgrounds are. I know people were originally saying that having multiple characters would lead to shallow characters, but it's quite the opposite. They feel like they're living life when you're not around.
I personally play differently with each character. I get into their mindset. I'm more likely to fly off the handle and kill someone with Trevor for example. I also like the whole different skills bit. Tried to fly a helicopter as Franklin and had to put it down on a roof because I was fighting a losing battle with his piloting skill.
Edit: Anyone who got the special or collectors editions, hold a black light(UV) to both sides of the map. You'll be surprised.

Man the police are really aggressive this time around! :o
4 star wanted level is very, very challenging.
Started by trying to get into the studio area in Vinewood. Stopped the car by the gate. Guard approaches, and all of a sudden pulls me out of the car, and he takes out his gun.
I quickly get out and use Michael's ability to slow down time to take out the closest guard and the one's close by.
I get to 2 stars. I get into a car, police cars start chasing me. I figure I might just fool around for a bit, cooked some grenades while they're chasing me.
Blew up some police cars I think. Got up to 4 star wanted level quite quickly.
Had 2 helicopters, a number of squad cars and SUV's chasing me around the city. With their road blocks I had to turn and go up to the Vinewood Hills.
It looked good for a while, got some space between me and the cars. All of a sudden the car veers to the right, probably due to the tire being hit. Suddenly I'm in someone's driveway, no other option but to ditch the car and go on foot. Ran through some gardens and climbing over walls, all the while the helicopters are firing at me.
I attempt to cross the road, and all of a sudden a spooked civilian runs me over.
Wasted!
Was fun the few minutes it lasted.
Not as easy to trick the police by weaving in and out traffic like in GTA 4.

They need to put the HariKrishna followers back in way back in the original GTA if you managed to run over the entire lot of them in one go you got a huge score reward.
It was not easy though seeing as they snaked around in a line to get them all in one pass was tricky yet gratifying at the same time.
Holy cow! GTAV has passed the 1 billion dollar mark in sales, lol And that's in 3 days !!!!!

if you go to the "news" section on GTAforums and check the PC related thread and skim through the last 20 pages or so then you will see that many expect GTA V to come out on PC and that it might be announced soon and that there is a possibility that it has been made parallell from the console versions as in no port this time. Max Payne 3 was no port I think and was released only a few weeks on PC after the console versions.
Out of interest, is GTA 4 any good? Better than San Andreas?
Stealhead
09-24-13, 04:38 PM
Yes 4 is pretty good.Personally I never liked San Andreas it was too big and too scattered for my taste.GTA 4 goes back to focusing on one city Liberty City(New York City) of course with much more detail than previous GTAs did.Anyway with the two DLC you have plenty to do.Personally I really liked the character you play as in The Lost and the Damned.Of course there is so much to do just roaming around you can play GTA4 as a free roaming game if you wanted though you would want to play enough missions to unlock the full city before you went fully free roam.
From what is being said here GTA 5 does everything that GTA4 did well and just added much more life into the city this time it is back to San Andreas(L.A.).So long story short you might as well just skip GTA4 and buy GTA5 especially if you like playing in L.A.
I will buy it(GTA5) for PC when it comes out or maybe around the holidays. My birth day is in December so Maybe I'll make GTA5 a gift for myself or have my wife gift me.
I haven't played much of IV, had some MP fun with the lads and done a minute percentage of the missions.
It's a beautiful game, I must admit I was stunned into awe when I first hailed a cab and took a ride in the back through the city looking out from a first person view as the sun began to set. It was incredible!
But if you come into it from San Andreas, you'll notice that it's a lot more focused, yes you can customise your clothing, but there are no fixed wing aircraft, just helicopters, and the environment gets a little samey after a while, which makes sense really because...well...you're in a big arse city! :haha: I mean the architecture varies and that, but there's no landscape to explore, mountains to climb, that kind of thing, which if you come into it from San Andreas, is something you will notice pretty quickly.
I haven't played V, but I will be eagerly awaiting its release on PC, and since the wife is saving up for a PS4 (thank you Kingdom Hearts 3) then I might well get myself the upgraded copy for the PS4 when it inevitably arrives (when I'm able to access the PS4 that is...which won't be for some months after it's bought, of course). I loved SA, and one of the things I love the most about V, is that the whole map is unlocked from the start, no more terrorist alerts, hurricane warnings, etc, no more instant five stars if you have the gall to go over a bridge, the game is given to you and it says 'Just go, do what you want'. I like that, I like that a lot.
All of the extra features inside, like an underwater environment, a multitude of vehicles, trains (which I really hope are hijackable, or at least can be modded to be), a rollercoaster, a dog, golf...all kinds of things to distract you, and that's not even starting on the AI which I have heard numerous things about.
So, the long and the short of it, I agree with Stealhead, go straight to V.

Enjoying GTA5, my daughter and I play a couple hours of it each evening. (Which is why I prefer these type of games on console over the PC--family time!).
So far, I have completed a few missions as Franklin and done some demo work as Michael, now setting up for my first big heist. Great game, I know it's just computer code but the feel of such a large sandbox is constantly exhilarating. I look forward to the day (maybe GTA6?) the game will reward causal encounters with a percentage of NCPs in the game, allow more exploring inside buildings.... it's just crazy.

I have to say that gta V is quite a bit of fun. There is more to do than IV and the overall detail is quite satisfactory. Even just going driving according to traffic listening to the radio music or talk shows
little satirical details like the internet in the smartphone or doing selfies
the detail is in par with gta 4 and expanded to the desert-like north which is good( i only wish some more building/shops were accessible, some smell that they were cut out for something in the future). There is much visual on screen but because of the numbers of objects, the overall image is of a bit of a low quality because of the limitations.
and compared to gta 4, there is finally a bit more of customisation eg.cars where apparently there is a bigger influx of european ones ( pagani, the evoque, lamborghini, audi, ferrari, aston martin etc look alike cars. even the coquette is an italian-modified corvette etc).
the scope is widened, -not to a huge extent however- and tries to remind the san andreas days ( where the map was big-but rather empty-, many little things to do)
The variety is given by the 3 characters, especially during the missions and story progression ,
after you complete most of them however, the difference becomes a bit marginal in my opinion.
The story in overall is fine, the narrative, quality is pretty good for the script, but in my opinion is too short and doesnt give a sense of urgence ( less than gta 4 main one, or san andrea's ) and there isnt so much of a climb of the ladder of society.
I like it pretty much as a whole, some things could be done better or differently maybe, even more detail will be appreciated and cant wait for the pc version hoping it comes with a comparable increase of visual quality.
Since Gta 4 the series has a particular appeal accompanied by a sort of quality lets say
PS. I love heists :) ( same as neal's comment ^),its my most favourite new thing of this gta, if only they made more of them...
