View Full Version : New to SHV
Hey guys,
So I haven't really played a good Silent Hunter game since SHIII, but I caught the itch recently and started playing SHV. I always loved the sense of anticipation and the feeling of reward when all the hard work payed off. And the chases were intense! By the time I left I played with full realism minus the external camera option (i used it to take screen shots). I think I used the Greywolf mod after awhile if I recall.
So like I said, I started up on SHV, but it's frustrating the crap out of me. I hate having to walk around my ship to do basic functions. I hate that I have no access to my TDC. I hate that I can't seem to set up a proper spread shot! I hate that the stadimeter seems to be completely ineffective (I get widely varying results; against some ships, I'm seriously short and against others, I'm seriously long)! Oh, and the fact I don't have direct access to my rudder position anymore?! Really?! Plus, what's with these British airplanes just flying by me? I feel like waving at them. I seem to remember them being the bane of my existence in SHIII. Another, I hate that after I finally get down to my XO to tell him to go silent running, he tries to strike up a conversation! And then when I tell him to shut up, he gets all pouty-face on me! Seriously?! There's a battleship 10 minutes out! Can't it wait?!
But I do enjoy the campaign feeling so far. The mission quotas aren't a bad touch so far. The crew skill upgrades might be okay. Um... and the upgrade system might turn out to be okay too, but I'm still only in the second campaign, so maybe not.
Well, so what's the verdict? What mods do I need to make this game work? I appreciate the feedback. Thanks!

First, you need my Generic Patcher to fix the game bugs and add new items to the game.
Second, you need to install a UI mod.
Third, you need to install my IRAI mod to fix the AI
If you want better effects in game then you need to install my FX_Update mod.
All these can be found in the SH5 mods forum
Sweet! Thanks! Heading that way now!
What mods do I need to make this game work? I appreciate the feedback. Thanks!

Don't wanna make extra topic for this one:installed SH5 today (i'm not new to this game, played a lot some time ago.
Well Ubi has changed the interface of UPlay and now I have a problem - when I'm trying to run a game with offline mode it doesn't start. And it shows me a window with "Thank you for playing Silent Hunter:Battle for the Atlantic Gold Edition! Time played 0 hours and 0 minutes" and that's it.
I can't get into the game with offline mode.
Do they changed smth with DRM-system? Is it back again?
Last time I played with offline mode it was ok.
Please help
P.S. I also unchecked in-game social notifications and cloud save synchro
P.S.S. ok i think i figured out what was the problem. I set compatability mode to Windows 7 in sh5.exe file and everything seems to work ok now.

...you're making me itch TDW. can it really be that easy - and for it ALL to function without major crashes or other issues..?
I'm not so sure. but I want it to work coz it looks so beautiful!!
I've tried at length in the past and it has driven me crazy with frustration.
**Ive copied and pasted this short mod list requirement to my desk top note pad......im contemplating this again!!

Those mods alone allow for more immersion, better performance and more realism. Torpedo failures, wolfpacks, you name it. The only those mods don't do is make the war go into 1944-45, which Open Horizons II already does. So if I were you, I would try it. You might only be able to use type VIIs, but at least the story (what is written story doing in a sim? I'll make my own story...) can be ignored. It's well worth it. Thanks to TDW, Trevally, and dozens of others, the good of SHV far outweighs the bad.
