Phew that was close, well done oz I thought with the disruption of the injuries the lions would stretch there lead beyond the wallabies.

TarJak

Nooooooooo! Exciting end to a cracking game. Well done Lions. We had two chances to steal it and Beale missed em both. Can't wait to see the next test.

They defended their hearts out and should have stolen it at the death.

So close; I feel a little sorry for Beale, boy, is he gunna cop some stick tonight! That image of him slipping on the last kick'll haunt him for a while.

bertieck476
06-22-13, 12:49 PM
He'll feel bad but it wasn't his fault they lost, I think that if he'd started and cooper was in the squad the result may have been different today.

Jimbuna
06-22-13, 12:50 PM
I tend to look at the first encounter as a warm up or tester session.

Always nice to get the first win but there are two more to go and your lot will be hurting for revenge.

bertieck476
06-22-13, 01:01 PM
For us in the uk and ireland its the perfect start, halfway to a series win it would now be a lot harder if they had just lost, but I think there may be some tweaking done by both sides oz will be very competitive in the remaining 2 as they always are.

TarJak
06-22-13, 06:17 PM
Injuries aside, I saw a lot of positives for the Wallabies last night. Their defensive effort was first class and their scrummaging was much better than I've seen in recent times. I'm certainly more confident of a couple of wins than I was at the start of the game. Whatever the result it will be another two close games.

Go Gold!

Agree with you there, but you kind of expect more from your captain and the citing officer

Just seen the squad for saturdays test, dissapointed that they have not changed one of the centres as they looked very ordinary in the first test, good call dropping phillips and cuthbert, cant understand the inclusion of lydiate who only really offers tackling over croft who is superb in the lineout and I still believe warburton did nothing to deserve selection on form, in the first test he was invisible except when talking to the ref.
Would not be surprised if we lose this one.

Bugger will miss it Saturday am at the toilet (work) but I will stick my neck out and say the Lions to win by 8 points :yep:

Didnt see the match but when I saw the team selection I just thought we wouldnt do it.
Well done oz,all down to last test.

TarJak

Disappointing to hear Warbuton will be out for the decided. Horwill will find out if he joins him on the sidelines today.

TarJak
07-01-13, 09:42 PM
Horwill has been cleared a second time: http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-union/union-news/horwill-cleared-to-play-lions-series-decider-20130702-2p8yj.html

I can't understand the IRB taking the unprecedented step to review the case, given he was already exonerated.

Anyway it will be interesting to see how the two camps react. One losing their captain the other retaining him for the final game.

Can't wait till Saturday night!

Jimbuna

This may well tip the scales against the Lions and if so will be a talking point of contention for quite a while after the series ends.

TarJak
07-02-13, 04:58 PM
I agree. Shame Warburton is injured as he's a great captain who does a lot for the morale of the team. I still think it will be close and of course hope the Wallabies came make it an historic series win. Best of luck to the Lions though, they are a very good side.

I believe warburton is not the best 7 in wales let alone the 4 nations and his form did not warrant selection, the irb appeal is probably because if you look at the footage it seems incomprehensible that he didnt tread on him on purpose.

So why is he on the squad as captain?

Clearly both IRB tribunals thought otherwise on Horwill. Read the article I linked to whcih explains the process and decisions of both. I watched the game live and there was absolutely no comment about it at the time it occured. Looking at the footage, I'd say he was rucking as he is allowed, but don't think it was definately a deliberate act. If you stick your head in a ruck, expect to get it kicked.

This to many people is baffling, some suggest its because of the working relationship sam and gatland have in the wales setup, bear in mind sam does not even captain his club side his recent performances before the lions tour were ordinary at best even though gatland said he would pick the touring party on merit, granted he communicates with the ref well which sometimes is the only time you realise he is even playing.

I understand the process of the tribunals but I am dubious about his defence, admittedly when I watched the match I did not even see it but when its slowed down you can clearly see him tread on him, the laws on rucking have changed from the day when you could rake a player out who was laying in the way but even then you didnt touch the head and in this case it was a lions ball that was never going to be turned over, so no justification for a shoeing in the old fashioned way as he was not slowing oz ball or laying in the way.

I have just seen the lions team for the final test and would like to congratulate the wallabies on there series win.

Deans has been given the elbow and Ewan McKenzie now has the top coaching job for the Wallabies. Will be interesting to see how he goes. His record has been pretty good so far and his record when playing very good. Hope to see some improvements in the scum at least. He certainly knows that part of the game well.
