The black woman is a Somalian born Dutch politician/writer/activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali she is rather unpopular with Islamic fundamentalists.
The man to the left of Darwin I can not recall his name but has been discussed a few times on Subsim before his is an atheist and also a bit of a misogynist but he is more well known for being atheist Skybird is a big fan of him.
The one on the right is a New Jerseyan that appeared on an MTV reality show "Jersey Shore" Snookie I know this because my sister has a dog named Snookie it is a mocking name. Also if people are 100% honest you know someone who knows who she is anyway and by hear say you also know who she is and I can also honestly say that I knew he she was because co-workers have discussed her many times.

It depends on your generation, many people in history are no longer taught about because they get replaced by 'up and comers'. Only the very elderly, or total book worms would know everyone on the left...where as the person on the right made her face well known through social media.
Education in High School isn't about trying to teach someone the entire history on the universe, it's more about preparing someone for the future in the world that exists at the moment. If one wants to know more about a certain subject, then they would go to College and major in that particular subject.

True enough, but I think the real ramification involves not knowing even one person on the left. I didn't know all of them. If social media is more important to a person than anything else, then there truly is a problem. Again, not with one person, but with the collective.
Education in High School isn't about trying to teach someone the entire history on the universe, it's more about preparing someone for the future in the world that exists at the moment. If one wants to know more about a certain subject, then they would go to College and major in that particular subject.
I never said anything about high school or what it teaches, and neither did the picture. I think it's adults we're talking about here; adults who shape the world. I also think it's not about really knowing who is who on any level. It's about caring about more important things that who is laying whom. 'Snookie' seems to be a product of what we used to call "famous for being famous"; people who have contributed nothing worthwhile to the world, yet are known by everyone. That is indeed a problem.

How many people on the left of the picture have featured in the news in the past month?
Is it all of them, all of them , all of them or all of them?
Platapus

I would also opine that more people would recognize these people by name than by their appearance.
I like to think of myself as a history nerd, but I did not recognize all of these pictures, but I do recognize all of their names. That's because few of the history books I read had these people's pictures but all of them had their names.
A better test would be to list all the names and see how many people do not recognize any from the left side but do recognize the one on the right side.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Time_Machine_%281960_film%29;
http://viooz.co/movies/9413-the-time-machine-1960.html;
After stopping at some familiar (to us viewers) moments of 20th century history, the time traveler finally arrives to a time in a very distant future, where people just don't care about anything. A woman is drowning and everybody around is indifferent. He saves her, and she is also indifferent for having been saved. Books are totally ignored and abandoned in an old library gathering dust. There is more but I will not spoil it for those who haven't seen it.
I may not be adding anything to this discussion, but I felt like venting. This is one of the topics I am really concerned about in our civilization. Yes we have reality shows here too, along with "snookies" and everything. In one occasion one of them stated that Africa was a country in northern Europe (sigh). Everybody laughed but me, which worried me even more.
And I totally subscribe to what Steve said. I am worried that the collective is more interested in the "famous for being famous" than in real heroes that helped change civilization for the better.
These are topics that keep pounding inside my head. Sometimes I prefer to just ignore things, as they make me so sad. And the way I vent may make me come across to you as goofy, but that is my self-protection system at work, releasing pressure to preserve my sanity.
Guys, I enjoy your company.

H.G. Wells. I do now, so my answer is not fair. I did Google it up when I was looking for info on the movie before posting it.
Simple as it is, I never forgot this movie. Without any fancy modern special effects, it is quite interesting as it presents us with two interesting topics: time travel, and human behavior. Somehow I think older movies were a bit more intelligent. Many of modern movies promote "snookies" who believe Das Boot is the most disgusting thing ever filmed and a deservice to any navy and sailor.

Two very simple issues.
1. constructive dismissal. Seems clear cut, employees shouldn't have to put up with dumb rednecks, being a employer who is a dumb redneck strongly suggests that the bigotry will lead to illegal discrimination against your employees

Live by the media, die by the media. That's the normal pattern isn't it.

The media empires/vampires love a good scandal. It fuels interest and interest sells advertising. They don't give a ratatouille who they destroy in the process. As long as they get their pound of flesh. Preferably barbecued.:nope:
Being in the public eye is like living in a glass house. It's best that you dress in the basement and not throw stones.

Years and years ago?
It covers the 2005-2010 period.

All true. This is the issue. Paula Deen said the n word after having a gun held to her head. She probably has said it other times. She gets crucified and loses what she has worked on all her life. Jay-Z says the n word all day and is invited to the White House. I don't care in what context, spelling or pronunciation the word is used. Deciding its OK for one and not the other is self serving.

That is where you are going wrong.
The testimony she gave gives the "probably" since it is those other times she is in trouble over as it was those other times she is accused of.
Namely at work in the period 2005-2010, that is what hung her out to dry, not a conversation with her husband in the 1980s.

Not at all, context is everything.
Take this from earlier....I can call a bogwog "soup" in the street, if I call him "soup" in the workplace then that is another matter entirely.
Can you see why it would be very different if you called someone a bogwog or if I called them it?
But you can still call him soup in the right setting as that doesn't have the racist element that bogwog would if it was you saying it not me.

I'm not contesting what was said by Deen. The case made it to litigation because there is enough to warrant one under the law. I'm not "wrong" with contention of what has transpired as a result of speaking the truth during her deposition. I'm having issue with the method of crushing everything she invested in for simply stating the truth. Those that have taken the moral high road might best take a look at their past indiscretions. It is a witch hunt and cash grab.
Context is everything only when a caucasian uses the word. Double standard.

Crushing everything? She lost one contract
Stating the truth?
I thought she denied she had said they wanted ******s for a good ol' plantation wedding?
Her problem comes from her denial lacking credibility.

No not at all, a Korean using the that word obviously runs into the same problem, so does any non caucasian hispanic.
The only people that don't get the same problem in using such a word is people who would be the target of that specific racial abuse if it was directed at them by someone of a different group.
It is a witch hunt and cash grab.
You keep saying its a cash grab, the only person standing to get cash is the one person you say has legitimate grounds for getting it.
That's not a cash grab, that is due process.

Lost support of her products with Walmart, Target. She has lost Sears and Kmart. Food Network cancelled contract. Smithfield no long desires her participation. There are several other still weighing their options. She has a book due out soon. May not make print now. Caesars restaurants have now cut ties.
Stating the truth? I thought she denied she had said they wanted ******s for a good ol' plantation wedding?
When asked if she used the word she said yes. Truth. As far as the plantation wedding, the slavery imagery was placed by those that heard Deen say it. It was not her intentions of a slavery wedding.
Her problem comes from her denial lacking credibility.
No, it comes from railroading perpetrated by the media. Al Sharpeton had nothing much to say other than judge her character today and not from years ago. That says a lot. Specifically coming from Sharpeton. The comment was summarily dismissed because the feeding frenzy was to great, enjoyable and liberating for those that love to see people at the top come down.
You keep saying its a cash grab, the only person standing to get cash is the one person you say has legitimate grounds for getting it.

It is a cash grab for the plaintiff. Deen's brother is the one who had created the issue. Deen is the money to grab as she is part owner of the restaurant. See it for what it is. Extortion. If it is really is about racism and sexual harassment, correcting a wrong, then the Plaintiff does not really need the 1.5 million. Also, the uproar is over use of he n word and a overactive imagination by the plaintiff concerning a traditional plantation type wedding. How about the media focusing on the cretin of a brother she has? Less fun and worse ratings certainly.

How about if she focused on her cretin of a brother before she chose to put him in her business?

Point taken. However, she is part owner and did not run the restaurant.

The infraction did the trick but sometimes it fails to change the avatar making it look nothing happened.
He's out of action as we speak, just needs to be removed by Neal.
(Though wouldn't mind if Jimbuna gets rid of the link in that post by editting)
