Not so much to discuss it, course, some well, but wonder if it's effecting anyone as of yet. I've read several stories of rates going up for those already on insurance by their employer. My brother called, his insurance went up $2K a year with less benefits, his employer said blame it on Obamacare. My nephew was informed by his employer is dropping insurance alltogether. Our plan doesn't renew until Nov, so it's will be interesting.
My family is seeing deductibles go up about 100-300%, depending upon what type of insurance, and what coverage rate is chosen.
I myself am on Medi-Cal (Medicaid) and Medicare, so not much has changed on my end. Though a few years back, they slashed the Durable Medical Equipment coverage and severely changed guidelines. Apparently, I can get a power wheelchair, but I'm on my own if I need a manual (backup) wheelchair.
I'll see if I can gather up some local figures from friends and family. I've heard from a lot of people that they're starting to shell out over a thousand bucks a month for coverage, so I'm willing to say that there are definitely people out there feeling it.

This is not going to end well at all... That's my only polite thought on this topic.

:nope:Darn, I just read an article a few days ago that showed some more loopholes in the healthcare laws that would mean higher costs for low income families while providing lower coverage & higher deductibles. It also mentioned something about employers deducting more from their low income wage earners, more than they can afford. Now, I can't find the link.:/\\!!

It seems to me that any time the government gets involved in something, all they manage to do is muck it up royally. Health care is no exception.
Who's going to benefit from this law that will force everyone to have health insurance? Insurance companies. It damned sure isn't for our benefit because we'll pay for it through the nose. Either with the exorbitant premiums or in added taxation penalties.
Soak the torches and sharpen your pitchforks. We're going after Dr. Frankenstein's monster come next June.:stare:
I just got a COLA increase on my disability the first of the year and it was instantly gobbled up by increased Medicare premiums.
We can show them 'tards what's what by expiring or absolute refusal to obey this ignorant garbage piece of legislation.

I agree Wolferz. Government is not the solution, it's the problem. :/\\!!
Obamacare will ensure the bankruptcy of the US. Simply put "we can't afford it." That's why the government is loading up on ammo. When you give handouts to millions and then take them away...it's going to get ugly. :nope:

Not me, I'm getting right in there. Soon as they open the line, I'm signing up. I'm too healthy for any disability, and too motivated for welfare. But Obamacare will beat my current insurance provider. And I want my bit of the government dole that most everyone has going for them now.
If this new system works, yay. If not, let's see if we can crash it.
Maybe Sweden knows something we don't.... (http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/16/business/what-sweden-can-tell-us-about-obamacare.html?_r=0)

Ahh, I found another link about it from a different news source than I usually use. Took a bit of Googling to find the correct headline.
Report: Obamacare Loophole to Hammer Low-Wage Workers
http://townhall.com/tipsheet/guybenson/2013/06/16/report-obamacare-loophole-hammers-many-lowwage-workers-n1620803
The scariest part about this is that I keep seeing articles of this nature. How there are hidden taxes that will kick in, or how the coverages will not be as good as those provided under the current system, or how businesses can avoid coverage for their workers through loopholes that govern how many workers a business needs before mandatory coverage kicks-in. I honestly don't know what to believe and apparently, neither do the alleged experts, but I guess we're going to find out whether we sink or swim.

What would be scary is not finding articles of that nature.
What would be really scary is going to townhall.com and not finding it full of stories about how team D is really very naughty.
I suppose the real beauty is that the problems all relate to the soft deal given .to insurance and industry which came as a compromise mess instead of the single payer universal healthcare which was proposed

I couldn't find the original article that was posted on my homepage just a few days ago so I posted what appeared to be the same basic article. I just happened to find it where I did while searching via Google.
In the original article, there was an ending comment by one of the Democrats (can't remember who) who said something to the effect that this might have been avoided if the original bill hadn't been rushed through and there had been more time to deliberate over it's finer points.
It was by the Associated Press but I can't seem to find the original article.

Good luck finding any truth in the manure pile that's been shoveled by both sides regarding this thing.
The only thing I know is that insurance companies are licking their chops. They wrote the bill.

This article is a year old, but points to the wheeler dealer in the white house to get his plan approved in the first place:http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/high-drug-prices-Obama/2012/06/09/id/441767
A new trove of emails shows President Barack Obama’s White House agreed to help drug companies block a proposal to bring down medicine prices so they would back Obama’s healthcare plan.
In the end, the drug industry agreed to provide $80 billion to expand health coverage in exchange for protection from policies that would cost more, the Times reported.
The paper said Obama felt the deal had to be made if he was to be successful in getting his healthcare proposals — nicknamed Obamacare — accepted
That article is a year old, but next year today's scandal's of tea party, NSA, AP phone records among other scandals will be a year old. What happens then?
My concern is all of the handicap people that had no insurance are already on the Obama health care plan and it would be a real shame to take them back off insurance again.
It's that darn $200 a month they want and the extra 13,000 IRS agents that want my bank account information ... not to mention the $50 penality for missing an appointment that is already part of medicare, yeah it's true and the $35 fee from your bank for being overdrawn unless you have $400 in your banking account at all times to draw on.
There is some hope to stopping the Obama health care plan
before it can become law in January 2013 with a majority vote in the Senate.
Mass has a special election next week: Senate in the June 24, 2013 special election …

and I suppose the rest of the senate races are in November ...

It worked out for us. The Frau's daughter with epilepsy is able to get medical care on her insurance until she is 26.

Hello sir, I think you're in the wrong topic, this is the 'complain about Obama/Democratic government/Obamacare' [please circle the appropriate subject] topic, you want the 'Hey Obama did something good for me' topic, for that you want to go out of the forum, do a left, keep going until you reach Alpha Centauri and then take another left, you can't miss it.
Have a nice day.
(Disclaimer: I am joking, I'm glad that the Frau's daughter is able to get medical care on her insurance, my wife has her medication on the NHS too, doesn't have to pay a thing for it.)

No doubt there's a lot of rubbish happening to get the law through, with backsteps and blackmail, like big business lobbies usually act.
Altogether though i think it is a good thing towards a civilised society. "Everyone for himself" will not help most when they are old and cannot work for more money while only having a small rent, and naturally need more medical care at that age.
In Europe the money being paid through the lifetime gets interest, so the usual very high medical costs at the end of a lifetime can be paid. For a real sick and/or old person, it is a good thing - old people have paid their share, and younger people with serious problems are backed up by money flowing in a kind of network system.
But who am i to come to this thread with reasonable thoughts.
[fixed]:
Anyone remember free health care in England ? Was before the new economy of course, i bet England was a communist country back then :O:

So glad that it assisted your situation, Platapus.
But, typical government programs help some while screwing everyone else. Usually the little guys.
Our medical care system is what needs fixing. Not the insurance.
Diagnostics has become big business for General Electric and they bank big time on the sale of their MRI and CT scanners. As a result, the patient pays through the nose for diagnostics. If the government really wanted to help, they would subsidize these machines so the for profit medical establishment could do the scans for little to no money out of a patients' pocket.
As it is now, Obamacare seems more like tyranny and the medical types have become our new masters.
Speaking personally, I don't trust the government or doctors any further than I can throw them.

If there has been any kind of info seminars, I've missed them. Hard to believe with a social entitlement program of this size, there has not been more information. Shouldn't PBS be having indoctrination specials on this? :hmmm:
California has set up its own exchange, and companies are starting to announce their premiums. To everyone’s surprise, the announced premiums have been only slightly higher than current rates – and this is for much better coverage.
