there is always the argument that drafts are a bad idea for sports: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323975004578503590141110724.html?m od=wsj_share_tweet

But I disagree, I believe the current talent model works great

One more piece of brilliance from Belichick.

No - he won't replace Brady or Mallet - but he comes cheap and if there is ANYONE who can use Tebow's talent in the NFL - its the mastermind.

I can't see Belichick taking him on as a backup QB only. That's what the local news is reporting they signed him as but i'm expecting Bill to use him in a variety of roles.

There's absolutely no way that Belichick is going to become a wildcat convert, and for good reason -- that crap just doesn't work in the NFL. That's going to put Tebow as No. 2 at best, which he has not been happy with and is likely a major reason for his departure from New York (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2012/12/tim-tebow-unhappy-he-wasnt-give-more-opportunities). So, Tebow again "wants a chance" but has (also again) come to the wrong place to get it. Belichick is not one of those Andy Reid lovey-dovey coaches that caters to his players' every whim. He runs a tight ship with a firm hand; a formula that has worked for him. I don't see him changing that for some Johnny-come-lately prima donna. So, barring some catastrophic career-ending injury or sudden retirement, I expect to see Tebow in yet another uniform in September 2014.

I wonder how that will work out. Kraft and Belichick have always kept a pretty tight lid on that kind of stuff.

Well, that's just it. The coaching staff at NE doesn't tolerate that kind of crap. I think what we'll see is more of pouty Tebow all dejected on the sideline while Tom Brady goes out and does Tom Brady stuff. Tebow will shut up at the first nasty look.

Tebow: "I'm ready coach. Put me in. Give me a chance."

Belichick: "I'll initiate conversation if we need to speak about something."

Tebow: "Yes sir." **sits back down on the bench**

You might be right but I think we'll still see him out on the field just not as QB. Tebow has to know that his NFL career is finished if he insists on playing that position only. I'm thinking they'll try to use him as a sort of hybrid Tight End, especially if the Gronk stays injured. They'll have to work on his catching ability though.

you guys are missing the obvious, the patriots are in desperate need of a good backup tight end and tebow fits that mold. he knows the offensive mindset and is built like a running back, the only question is can he be an effective blocker.

a lot of talk during the draft was will a team want to bring him in to make him a running back but tight end is a better fit for large quarterbacks who cant play quarterback anymore

This is why they got Tebow I think:

I didn't know Coach Belichick even had a sense of humor ...

I bet he plans on playing Tebow only when they play the New York Jets twice next year ... playing him to win that is.

Oh man I hope not. There's a plethora of better TE choices out there in free agency alone. Dustin Keller, Fred Davis, Chris Cooley, Kellen Winslow, Dallas Clark, even the aged Gonzo would be better I would think.

This is going to be NY Jets part 2. Tebow on the Pats is going to go over like a fart in church. Obvious allusions aside. :O:

Isn't it kind of weird that if any of the other 31 teams had signed Tebow, we would have thought "that's a dumb move." but when the Pats do it, everyone says "What's Belichick have up his sleeve?"

There won't be a Tebow circus in NE. BB is the smartest head coach in the league, whether you like him or hate him. There is something up his sleeve. Time will tell what that is.

I really doubt they signed him just to warm the pine. That's a loser move more suited to a new jersey team like the jets...

Yeah, that's my first reaction, too.

I'm pretty sentimental, I really would like to see Tebow succeed. He's a good kid. If Brady goes down...who knows, Tebow could be resurrected.

I can't believe you guys still think Tebow is there to be Brady's backup. You are forgetting Ryan Mallet.

Who?

Who?

Brady's backup QB. Ryan Mallet. At best Tebow would be third string. That's why I think they have other plans for him.
