Reloading a mission in progress. Ship spawns and instantly starts a death drop though the water to the ocean bottom, and BOOOM the crashing at something like 50m/sec of course instantly ends my career every time.

What the hell is this?

How do I stop this from happening and ruining patrols in progress?

Any help appreciated.

When you saved the game...

were you submerged?

were you within 50 KM of land?

Were you near another ship?

what was the situation when you saved?

Maybe there is a way to turn the progress back to the beginning of this mission. I'll check and let you know ;)

How are your computer specs? I've found that it happens (at least to me) when I overtax my memory.

normally if you save while submerged, near land or near another ship, issues like this pop up - either the save game will be corrupted and will not load, or it will load without any problems, or it will load and strange things like sinking as a stone occur.

...ls this not an occasional bug?

Saved on surface. I have sometimes saved submerged and with escorts nearby when I had to go do something else and I have not had the issue then. I have read that this is risky on the forums but I do not know why.

I was on the surface during this situation.
Date was 5 Sep 39 I was not within 50km, last known position was AN1836.
Which is not within 50km of land.
The weather was heavy seas.
Type II boat, but it happens with Type VII as well.

I was loading save B,the most recent. I label my saves in alphabetical order. A,B,C, etc. I also tried loading save A, which would have been in a different location, along the heading of 291 all the way back from the River Elbe only earlier. I do not know where I saved A at, but it was about half hour earlier. Same result there.

I have a Q6600 4GB RAM 64GB SSD drive, 3TB External HDD, SH3 + GWX is completely run from the SSD. I'm running Windows 7 64bit.

The issue doesn't happen all the time, with all loads, but when it does happen that save it will happen each time and it is as good as lost.

I want to try to avoid the issue but I don't understand the cause.

its a long known bug and seems to have very little cause but when it happens it always happes with the things goldenrivet asked.

What about Time Compression? Have you ever saved at anything other than a TC of 1x?

I appreciate your suggestions guys. I think I've found the cause, the cause is related to SH3 Weather, sometimes for whatever reason a windspeed of zero gets written upon a save, and this isn't workable by the sim, so it crashes the sub.

At least I know what causes it, I will work to successfully fix it by modding the files that the program conflicts with.
