60s and 70s advertising was great. I remember when I was little, my mom used to have a bunch of old Life Magazines and I would flip through them looking at the ads.

I certainly remember some of them either that or very similar.

The looks, the names!
Canon AE1. The object of desire. Nuff said.
Bought a few old issues of Modern Photography (85/86; 88/89/91) and love all of it: the articles about the new cameras and AF modes, etc. The new films, cameras that I never saw it, that had the design of (almost) a today movie camera (or maybe late 90's).
Each magazine had a small section about movie cameras (a la Back From The Future type) and also the articles about the future, no one thought about that huge thing that kodak made in 1975...

My first 35mm slr camera was a Praktica L2 which I purchased whilst in Hong Kong in 1977.
My next camera was an Olympus OM10 to which I added the manual adaptor. This camera gave me over 25 years loyal service and is still in working order today.
About a year ago I took my first step into DSLR technology and purchased a Canon 1100D.

Quality never really ages that much...often the improved models are only marginally better but a lot higher in price.

My first was a OM-10 too. It saw a lot of great service and went all over the world with me back in my travelling days. Still basically works except for a slight problem with the aperatue ring in the camera body.
With my very good experience with Olympus, my first DSLR is a Olympus E-500. Like it a lot.
Digital is pretty amazing, especially the post processing things you can do, but I am still amazed at the color quality of good old fashioned Kodachrome film. I was transfering some 8mm home movies for my mom a while back from the 60's and the richness of the colors are incredile, even with film that old.
I had to laugh at my daughter a few months ago. She was going on a week long 6th grade field trip up to the mountains. The teachers recommended taking a disposable camera for pictures instead of a digital camera and risk losing it. They said it happens a lot.
When I recommended that to my daughter, she said, "But then you can't see what the pictures you took look like."
I just laughed and went into my "Back in my day...." speech. :know:

Yea, our thrill in the 60's/70's was the panty section of the Sear's catalog.

Yes sir, a great camera in it's day.....with DSLR the advantage of post processing options certainly tips the scales for me.
