View Full Version : Australia ranked 'happiest' developed nation again

You'd hardly think so looking at the expressions on the likes of TarJak and Reece :O:

Australia has been ranked the world's happiest nation among developed economies for the third year running.
Top position went to Australia, because of the overall strength of its economy, in the Better Life Index (http://www.oecdbetterlifeindex.org/) compiled by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

My backside!

America is beyond happy, look what we do!

http://www.buzzfeed.com/mollykateri/get-well-soon-roadkill-421u

Get well soon balloons for roadkill, no kangaroos in those pics!

J/K, congrats, but like any city builder you play, the game gets harder when you reach higher populations.

Now to play devils advocate, compare your economy to other nations (first world)? Your oppressive VAT taxes on nearly everything, I know you all love paying a third more in government taxes for foreign goods.

My game cost me 40, it costs you 60. Happy? or happily oppressed?

Or are Kangaroos that cool, and I am missing the point?

(I think so deep down)
Kangaroos+Koalas= Morale boosters

IMPORT NOW!

Way to go Australia.
Bananas and lemon/ lime soda all around.:O:

As long as you don't elect that mining heiress to a top political position, you should remain happy.:D

It's also nice that you're on a sea locked little continent all by your lonesomes.

Most other countries share borders with other countries.
With the USA bordering Canada and Mexico, we get sneaky uninvited guests from the south and those fine folks to our north have their southern border fairly secured. We could take a lesson or two from them.

I guess that full socialist money has to come from somewhere.

For a bunch of so called convicts, they got alot of really nice looking women.

I look at it different.
The Brits ditched these people, they made enough of themselves to be recognized as a country by the entire world community, including their oppressor, the great British Isles.

Damn fine people. 3rd nation including the USA and India, to show Britain, their empirical ideals are rubbish, and prospering despite them.

Do not forget Canada (left in 1931) and New Zealand (1947).

Although I think that Iraq (1932), Burma (1948), Palestine (1948), Sierra Leone (1961), Uganda (1962) and Rhodesia [aka Zimbabwe] (1965 / 1979 UDI) did not turn out so well. :know:

Happiest nation in the world eh?
Well, no idea how they jagged that.
Must be all the stereotypical stuff that 1-day tourists pick up from sales assistants in over-priced gift shops which are stocked with koalas, tea spoons and thongs.

Happiest because maybe the general populous doesn't take politics very seriously and when they blindly vote in the wrong government, purely on a "she'll be right mate" attitude then yea, it's happy days.
Not so happy for us who give a dam about the country's economic woes, or the success of the country's political factions.

Needless to say, i'm being a tad negative here, but, as the old saying goes: the truth hurts.

Sure, there a lot of "happy" people here, same goes for any country.
I think this is one of those awards with a serious lack of value in the real world.

What next?
An award for the "luckiest" country in the world?
Heck, we'd win it every single year, purely based on the fact that so many ill-informed and unrealistic people here say Australia is the "lucky country" so often they have started believing their own little fantasy world.

My post is rather harsh, or so it may seem to the people living in other countries, and perhaps to some of the Aussie contingent here in SubSim.

Take it any way you want, but the cold hard facts are that Australia has a long long way to go, what with the 'massive' 200-odd years of culture behind them, and 2 (the biggest) political parties who demonstrate in the House of Reps on a continuous basis what a distant horizon it indeed is for visuals of some real backbone and leadership skills.
Rolling up the sleeves and actually working on common goals rather then displaying pre-historic animalistic behaviour patterns when attempting to defeat the cross-benches' ammendment suggestions.
But, that's politics,
and i've hi-jacked the thread and spelt out some negative points...
in light of all that:
Congrats Australia!

Australian prime minister dodges another sandwich

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard was forced to dodge a flying sandwich for the second time this month Thursday when someone's salami lunch was flung at her during a school visit.
Gillard was greeting children at Lyneham High School in Canberra when the sandwich narrowly missed her.

Life must be dangerous in Australia. I can't believe she had to dodge a sandwich! :o

Somebody should give this woman a medal for being so brave. :salute:

Hillary Clinton once was "taking sniper fire" and George Bush had a shoe thrown at him....but a sandwich? Nah...Too much... :88)

American Diplomats killed in Bengazi? American soldiers dismembered in Somalia? Nah...The Sammich is the leading cause of wheat related nourishment. :har:

Australia needs Sandwich Control. Citizens can only have one an inch thick (2.54 cm) and only the Government can handle anything higher than that.

Man Chokes on Sandwich....Big Push for Sandwich Control by the Gov't

Today, in Sydney, a man choked on a sandwich that was forcefully put into his mouth. The Government responds with their own statement

Today, a despicable act of sandwich violence occured in Sydney. It has been confirmed that the killer was Salami and Bread. New legislation is being drafted at this time to protect against this kind of violence from happening again.

This legislation includes waiting lists and background checks at delis. Also it is reported that you must apply for a FSL (Federal Sandwich License) to be able to make sandwiches. The application process takes about 36 months and the approval process takes another 25 years. Salami, as a sandwich part, will be banned in it's entirety.
