View Full Version : Obama tells Navy class culture of sex assault must end
Good initiative.
President Barack Obama has told US Navy graduates they must help end a culture of sexual assault in the military.
He told 841 men and 206 women at the Naval Academy commissioning ceremony in Annapolis, Maryland, the effects of misconduct "ripple far and wide".
On Thursday, lawmakers introduced a bill to impose harsher penalties for sexual assault in the military.

...and just who created this culture? Seems like something designed to fail in order to purposely make the military look bad. :know:

Anywhere you mix men and women, sexual tensions arise and certainly sexual problems such as assualt will be an issue. Our sexual urges are so strong, often for some, they trumph common sense.

It seems like BO is overusing the word "culture" as of late.

Its the same word used in the sex assault and rape scandals involving the air force academy and naval aviation.
Officers complained that investigations into the sex offenders are an attack on their "culture".
So it seems BO is using the correct word.

Now let's not be hasty here. That depends how you define "assault".

The term used by most feminist groups is "rape culture". Our culture generally places most of the blame for the rape(s) on the victim. How she dressed, how she acted, her personality, her sexual history, etc.. All in a way to diffuse the problem by making it her fault, and excusing the rapist(s) for their deeds.
Lets face it, military culture in general is highly misogynistic, and misogynistic cultures are very prone to sexual violence against women, due in part to the high level of devaluation.

I wonder if the bamster knows what the word "culture" means?
To the TSA/IRS/EPA/KGB that monitor this site, I looked it up for you and you can pass on the info.
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/culture

I didn't know that sexual assault was officially part of Navy culture?
Oh-fical Navy mission statement.

Trying to deflect attention from a very real problem by the use of clever semantics doesn't make it go away.

Then call it a problem of SA in the military. Now we can split hairs over the definition of culture. :)

Maybe it is the old superstition about women on boats coming to life.
I am not mysog or anything, but there is some things that should be gender separated, and that is sports, and soldiering.
I am not saying women cannot fight, but they provide a distraction in the heat of battle, due to our preconcieved notions that women are in need of protection.
Also what savages will do to women captured...
I am sorry, feminist bullcrap brought us to this, and no not trolling, nor mysogynist, but we all have a place in society.
When women have to do the same amount of pullups, and push ups in basic to pass the same test males do, then maybe I will amend my opinion, until then...Sorry girls.
Women only units, big thumbs up, to me!
(they might even embarass us pecker and balls boys!)
I invite excellence, based on merit, not gender.

The fact that some people would even attempt to do so over such an issue speaks volumes:down:

Rape and sexual assault is a culture in the military? Perhaps it will be a tradition one day. It might be there already. :shifty:

Rape and sexual assault is a culture in the military?
From my experience (USAF), that's a bunch of crock. Nobody ever encouraged or condoned rape or any form of sexual assault. Not that I ever saw, or heard of. If I ever heard of any rape, it was always by two jackwagon Marines stationed in Japan. By and large the whole "culture of rape" in the military, is a big heaping manure pile. Is there Sexism? Yeah, in varying degrees. The degree of which varies from place to place or from career field. But dudes standing around saying, "I'm gonna rape that ass!"... No. Quite the opposite. We had sexual harrasement training what seemed like every six months. Say the wrong thing to any female, and she could end your career in a heartbeat. "It's not what you say, it's how it's interpretted" was the watch praise. In fact the whole thing was rather one sided to the favor of the female.
Perhaps it will be a tradition one day. It might be there already. :shifty:
If there's any BS going on, it's because with this last decade they lowered the recruiting standards to get bodies in order to get more boots in Afganistan and Iraq. Two regions of conflict, all volunteer force, and underwhelming recruiting annual quota's will have an effect.
Currently with the reduction of operations in both countries, from what I've heard, now they have too many bodies where before they couldn't get enough, so now there's another draw down going on.

Try the report commsioned by Sec of Def Rumsfelt.
So briefly summing up on rape and sexual assault..... its roots have grown right to the foundation of the institution, much work is needed to get rid of the plague of this culture which has become ingrained in the fabric of the institution.:hmmm:
Seems pretty conclusive doesn't it.:yep:

Errrrr...the report mentioned above was commisioned 10 years ago into the rape culture in the USAF, it covered the previous decade of rapes.
Which puts your attempt at excusing it well out of the loop.
