3. The creator of the GIF says it should be pronounced "jif".

Gust to be ornery and arjumtentative:

1. Why would one assume that "G" is pronounced any differently than "J" in this context? Both "G" and "J" can be pronounced hard or soft depending on the context.

B. Why would the inventor of a jraphic image format be an authority on how it is pronounced?

- When did GIF change from being an initialization and become an acronym?

G for graphic, not for giraffe - so in my mind jif is totally wrong and the word it has become is correct.
