Boston bomb investigators kill Florida man

I'm wondering if this individual was part of a group or cell that has not yet been identified.


A Florida man was shot and killed while being questioned by Boston bombing investigators after he lunged at them with a knife, officials have said.
The shooting took place early on Wednesday in Orlando as officials questioned Ibragim Todashev, 27.
The FBI initially said their agent had killed Todashev, but an updated statement left it unclear who had fired the fatal shot.
Two Massachusetts State Police officers were also in the room, the FBI said.

I remember during some street survival training courses, we were shown how quickly a perpetrator (via practical scenarios) can pull a knife, lunge at you and stab you from over 6' away (about 2 meters), before we could even get our gun unholstered. Pretty scary stuff.

Unless you have one of those Spetsnaz Ballistic Knives, pulling a knife on somebody with a gun puts you at a disadvantage.

That's probably the same distance we were taught then. It's been so long since that training course, I couldn't recall the exact distance. I kind of thought 6' was a bit too short.:doh:

Not necessarily it depends on how situationally aware the person with the gun is.Cops get killed every year when someone takes their firearm from them and then discharges it against them or simply beats them to death.The magazine well of an automatic hand gun makes a very deadly bludgeoning weapon in its own right.

The moment that you allow the lackadaisical thought that you are in total control is the moment that you that put your life at great risk.Never underestimate anyone or what they are capable of.the same would apply to anyone really never walk down he street and assume that you can best any one person in hand to hand combat.

That is why you think like a true Jedi and avoid violence when it is not necessary and never have too much pride in your own abilities.

I saw a quote once that went something like "Always assume that the enemy is better than you." (I do belive that was in Red Storm Rising... :hmmm: ) It isn't something I'd live by but it's something to think about.

I think the "Never underestimate anyone or what they are capable of" is a better quote. I haven't had any formal self defense training or any of that. I took a couple years of karate and that's about it. I don't underestimate people. I've seen some pretty surprising things come from people who I didn't think they had it in them. There are also people who fit the bill perfectly... :)


One of my favorite quotes (If I had any. The one in my sig is pretty good. My baseball coach told me that one...but that's a completely different story.) is the "Assumption leads to failure." I've done it. I'm sure you've done it....we've all done it. Everybody has made a bad assumption. It isn't always something life-threatening or dangerous but it happens...

It didn't say he was a suspect. It said he was being questioned. I've been questioned by the police, usually to find if I saw anything. I wasn't frisked.

I guess the guy had something to hide or was extremely paranoid, at least with him dead it'll be easier to search his residence. If he had a pc he didn't have a chance to erase/delete anything, even though things can still be recovered if he had.
