Using the deck gun

Hello all. I'm having an issue using the deck gun. I am running Sobers Mega Mod and really enjoying the 'new game' after an absence of a couple of years!!!
However, I cannot for the life of me get to the large deck gun in front of the conning tower.
If I press F5 or F6 I can get the crew to man the guns behind the tower (and I can operate them too) but no crew goes to the front gun and I cannot find a way to man it myself. HELP!

Also, one other question, how do I start the Trevally Kiel canal script? I have it running with the other mods, I just do not know how to start it within the game?

Okay, I haven't tried Sobers mod so I may be of no use. But I wonder: have you used the deck gun in stock? If yes then please ignore this post; If no then you need to walk to the side of the wintergarden and climb down to the gun yourself.

Or, if you want crew to man it, you have to go to the watch officer
(on deck) and get him to man deck gun, or flak gun.

In 2 months, my guys have yet to fire at a plane with the flak gun. I think it's
been nerfed since SH4 :(.

Well, if using TDW NewUIs, you can teleport to deck gun from any officer icon (the right arrow) and/or if not, you can pick it up yourself by walking through the conning tower stairs (each side) and going to front gun to clic on it.

If teleporting you must first go below decks at least once . Its just the way the game is . To get the crew to man the deckgun click on the watch officer and ask him to get the crew to man the gun . Then click on the watch officer icon on the bottom officer icon panel and click on the deck gun icon . Click on man the gun . If sometimes a wave is high the men will not fire the gun , just look at the target thru the binos and press the space bar to get them to fire again .

Maybe a dumbo question, but where is my Watch Officer hiding?
Id there a specific FKey I need to press to have the conning tower manned whilst we are above water? As it is now, I am all alone on the conning tower whilst on the surface, unless I press F% or F^ to man the guns?
Where am I going wrong?

With NewUIs, the watch officer is the far right icon.
Otherwise, it's the man standing on your right (when looking at sub bow) -anyway that's the only one you can clic on, standing in the conning tower bridge...

:hmmm: Hmmm, If you're alone on the bridge this is the cause of your probs. The usual stock method for maning the the guns is to ask your watch officer (who would normally be standing beside you) to tell the crew to man their stations (done by clicking on the characters actual manifest form, automated controll is then initiated. If you want to controll the gun yourself, you must first man it (as above) and then climb down to it and click the guns' 'halo'.

If you're alone up there, then this is obviously impossible, so where are your crew? I'm wondering, have you succesfully completed the intro/tutorial?

Try disabling all your mods and then see if you have the same prob, would def recomend clompleting at least one patrol with no mods so you know what position normal is and can identify what has been changed by your mods.

Are sure on that being a truely stock bug? :hmmm: I endeavored to complete a stock career before modding and got most of the way through, never struck such a bug.

The only time I was ever alone on the bridge was at the start of the tut.

I played through the entire stock campaign (And liked it, don't kill me) and I cannot remember the watch crew disappearing, I have only started to notice them disappearing occasionally with crew on conning tower mods.

I managed to find my own route to the front deck gun, via the rear of the Wintergarden. It was an easy mistake as the route by the side of the conning tower looks almost impossible.

As for my crew up on deck, they are nowhere to be seen :(

:yeah: I'm glad I'm not the only one crazy enough to try this! :haha: Don't worry, I'll keep it to myself. :03: For me it's meerly an attempt to better understand the workings of the game; I'm still going on said career but life has interfered in a very in-my-face kinda way over the last year and so it's been a while since I've attempted to make progress.


@cookieguy: You have a problem with your game. Not having an attendant watch officer will pretty much make this game unplayable (e.g., even if you manually controll the guns the rate of fire will be dramaticaly reduced as you are trying to do every thing yourself. Are you able to interact with the crew members below deck?

There are plenty of people around here that will happily help you resolve the issue, but you must first try and help yourself. In order to help you resolove the issue you need to help with some fault-finding. In regards to the above questions;

Have you completed the tutorial (opening mission)?

Have you succesfully used the deck gun in stock? (I'm guessing not)

Have you ever had other crew members on the bridge with you?

Are you using TDW's NewUI mod? (and what other (if any) mods are you using?)

Have you tried disabling said mods to see if that cures the problem?.
