I thought I'd follow Steve's example and post some past and current builds.

I'll start with my C57-D cruiser made from the big kit.

The removable upper decks were scratch made and much of the interior detail as well.

That is excellent!

Leslie Nielsen would be proud. When I saw the exterior I though, "yeah, that's nice", but the interior is very nice.

For several years now I've called Forbidden Planet "the real pilot for Star Trek". There is of course no connection, but these days the movie is similar in appearance and plot to what a Star Trek episode would be.

The upper dome part is an aftermarket part to correct the kits incorrect shape. The upper deck is also to flat but that is too hard to fix.

In the kit box because he's not to scale with the saucer. I used a book called "The Saucer Fleet" by Jack Hagerty and Jon Rogers for reference. Great book if you can find one that's not too expensive.

Here's a couple of props I've just built in the last month for a fan film project of the Star Trek Enterprise series. One is a solid casting and the other a practical, but both use the same laminated screen save for the practical's back light.

The practical starts as a mostly vacuum formed kit with a few resin parts, and gets highly modified to conform to the dimensions of the solid casting which is cast from a screen used solid prop.

I hope you enjoy the process as it took a lot of engineering to develop, and this marks the fifth and last one I'll make.

The kit as is. This is what $240.00 buys but it is the only kit available and comes complete with absolutely no instructions. :woot:

The display construction. It's an epoxy lamination of some blue acrylic I found, an ink jet transparency I created, and a clear polyester cover.

Another build run is done and this time it was three ST Enterprise Phase Pistols.

The first part was to replicate the power module circuit for two of the props. One prop had the optional electronics kit.

Something to show that's more in Steve's realm, and about four, or maybe five years ago for me.

Scale build up of the classic Guillow's balsa wood flying model.
http://www.iaiamedia.be/bestbalsakits/gifs/guillow/200/202/1.jpg

I love making these balsa kits as display models. Part of it is the medium, and part is the level of detail you make. By that I mean these models set a detail accuracy standard that allows for cruder scratch built details. In fact, making any details completely accurate nullifies the spell to me.

I finished this MkVII Science Tricorder this past weekend. I started it about two years ago and had finished the body and paint, but with the advent of electronics with an LCD display I held off until the electronics were available. That was a year ago and I was too busy to install them then.

The kit was produced by HMS Studios, sold through Roddenberry.com, and is now unavailable. HMS built these for the TV series and the kit is identical to the props filmed in "Star Trek: The Next Generation".

The LCD screen has about thirty different screen animations that can be selected by switches under the graphics. I created three of those animations which involve about 90 to 120 frames. Enjoy.

Really it just takes time with some mentoring. Plus money, lot's of money. Start small and learn techniques so your mistakes and failures aren't so dear. Many hobby shops have clubs where you can get lot's of advice from old hands. They really do like to help. Props on the other hand are a different animal in many ways from models as they are meant to be used.

What kind of phaser do you want? There is really the entire gambit available within Star Trek, or any other film for the most part.

For the entire realm sign up for the Replica Prop Forum. This is where it all is. Industry big wigs and amatuers alike spanning the entire prop industry.

I spend most of my time at the Trek Prop Zone which is a members only forum devoted to Star Trek props alone. Industry bigwigs regarding Star Trek are also members there.

I've been working a long project building eight hero tricorders from the second Star Trek movie which I'll post some images of soon, but I wanted to put up a link to the video blogs about the fan film I built a couple of props for and showed earlier.

The film has commenced shooting principal photography and is called "Star Trek-Horizon". One of my props can be seen being held by a cast member in the stills shown in the Vlog. The CGI in use with this project is simply the best I've seen.

Here's an older project of mine that is still unfinished although I did work on it a month ago.

This is the original Star Trek TV series phaser pistol built to the design of Matt Jeffries concept drawings. The paint and color scheme are my own invention as there is nothing indicated in the drawings.

There are two known drawings which I used and made notes from.

http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/JefferiesNotes003.jpg

The main castings are from a kit produced in small quantities by Ron Shanko and are fiberglass. A few aluminum machined parts were also sourced but much was scratch built. The main castings were modified to a fair degree to match as near as possible the relative dimensions of the drawings.

The P1 shells.

And if you've paid attention so far here's a treat. This is my build next to one of the screen used midgrade P1's from the original series.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/JeffriesRShanko113.jpg

The next part was the P2 shells and the Unit #3 grip.

The drawing made a reference to a Unit #4 that attached on the back of the P2 so I took that to mean a rifle attachment and began building one of my own concept.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/JeffriesRShanko262.jpg

http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/JeffriesRShanko265.jpg

Here's another treat. The phaser on the left is also a screen used one from the original series. One of only two known to exist publicly and known as the West Coast Midgrade. I am not the owner unfortunately.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/JeffriesRShanko271.jpg

And skipping to current events. I was able to obtain a nozzle and emitter from a Masterpiece Replicas phaser and substituted it for the one shown earlier. The MR nozzle has a functional range ring and by turning it the emitter extends or retracts. That was the last feature dictated in the drawings I needed to get them all. It should be noted that the screen used heroes did not follow all the notes and they are notably different in detail.

Not the big project I've been working on, but a prop that's not Star Trek and I have wanted to build for a long time, years actually. I had one that I traded away on what ended up a bad deal and just never got around to making another, although I did make a later season variant.

This is a replica of the first season SeaQuest Vpal communicator. The parts are recasts of the original pieces made by Prop'er Effects which I made years ago, and I've made that known to Mike Moore if anyone cares enough to bring it up with him.

I will add some simple electronics at a later date.

Here are the main cast resin pieces cleaned up and primed. I did make another green acrylic screen though and the antennae is cast metal. The originals has some more length but I never had that piece to start with.

And the finished prop.

And now for the big project I was working for about eight months.

This is another Star Trek item and is the tricorder from "Star Trek: The Wrath of Kahn"

A very involved build needing plenty of modification and scratch building.

Long it is. I was hoping to be done about two months ago but I was given some good photos of the screen used one and had to modify several things about the main parts, plus there was something about the resin in half the handle parts and two of the black square pieces that prevented the paint from curing. This was not a surface oily spot but large areas mostly at the bottoms where the top of the mold is. I had to Dremel about an eighth of an inch of surface away and replace it with auto body filler to solve the problem. In total about 24 square inches worth of area. Not a common problem to say the least.

Time for some catch up over the summers projects.

First up is a seldom used attachment to the STTNG MkVII Medical Tricorder. The casting came directly from Mike Moore and is from the same mold as screen used.

Here it is attached to the tricorder but upside down as it fits better to my MkVII.

Next is a replica of the Klingon Hand Disruptor used in the fourth Star Trek movie. As far as I know this is the only one ever made outside the movie that has the proper lighting, and switches, although the red rocker should have a clear red rocker. You can find similar switches but they are all narrower than wide now.

So following that I made three First Contact rifles from Rodd.com kits with added phase modulator parts.

One of these gets the Rodd.com electronics and the other two I made up using some circuits boards meant for another prop plus added 750mW red lasers which are strong enough to melt plastic.

They've got belt winders for the slings.

After some long effort blending out mold lines and other faults, they were primed and painted. The paint is a two tone silver plus a semi-flat black, The silver paintsI have mixed at an auto paint store and rattle canned. The black was Rustoleum flat black which looks more like a satin to me.

Now I'm building six Future Tricorders. This tricorder was made for the ST:Generations movie but never got screen time. It is the last in the series of pop-up tricorders that began with the third movie. The vacuform part and the two gray parts are from Mike Moore and like the original parts. The other resin parts are reproduction STIII tricorder parts that get modified.

Other than having all six sets of shells at the same stage this brings me up to date.

I've matched the shells at the mid-line seam, created the seam gap with strip stock and built the fasteners.

I've got the plant-ons done now and this is how it went.

First stage was a pattern which covered the area on the flat part and left wings where the part would curve over the edge.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild039.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild039.jpg.html)

Next I used a heat gun to soften the parts and fold them over the edges. I'm using .030" sheet stock which is much thinner than the shell so the heat wasn't going to bother the shell.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild041.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild041.jpg.html)

Next the wing was trimmed and the corners rounded followed by gluing and clamping.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild046.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild046.jpg.html)

After a bit of sanding to remove the slight lumpiness of the bend they looked like this.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild044.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild044.jpg.html)

The last bit was making the button plinths. I used a file to make the two inner seams so the part remains one piece.

After that I filled all the slots and voids on the pop-ups as I don't plan on using them.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild053.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild053.jpg.html)

I also added some filler to the corner areas where the main shell meet the pop-ups.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild051.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild051.jpg.html)

So today will be getting the hoods to fit nicely to the mains shells. Some of this is old ground that all of these tricorders seem to have. An overbite on the left, an underbite on the right, and too narrow overall. These have the added joy of not meeting the vacuform shell at the top outer edges at all. Should be fun.

Some .060" strips were added to thicken the area where the sanding was cutting through.

Not getting a lot done as I've been digging a trench for a french drain this weekend after breaking up the concrete that was atop it last weekend. Anyway I did get the first board made. A bit sloppy but only one mistake found after I was done which was attaching one resistor leg to the wrong place. The follow on ones should be a bit neater,

So I finally got the other five boards finished and none of them worked, or none of the clocks worked. I found I'd shifted over one chip leg when making the connections assembly line fashion and carried that mistake over to all of them. Anyway, I found that and fixed it then found that the fourth sequence on the bar graph was not lighting which turned out to be an omitted wire which I then omitted on the other four. That solved left two with bar graph LEDs not lighting. One was solved by finding a couple of cold solder joints and the other by replacing the 3082 chip which was bad.

Started making the pop-up mechanisms today. The plan is to use two smaller brass telescoping tubes instead of the larger one integrated with the syringe. Doing it this way will hopefully have all the benefits of the easy slide, but attach the pop-up to the front instead of the back housing leaving the vacuform housing space empty. The challenge in doing it this way is the two sets of tubes need to be nicely parallel in two planes or it will bind.

With that in mind I made an alignment jig by carefully silver soldering two tubes together with heavy brass cross pieces. This allows me to JB Weld the two smaller tubes into the pop-up nicely aligned.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild107.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild107.jpg.html)

Still working on getting the tubes into the pop-ups with number three setting up now.

The first one, however, is now getting the mating tubes glued in. First job was building dams.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild112.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild112.jpg.html)

I plugged the tube ends with 6 minute epoxy to keep the JB Weld out before filling the area with the JB Weld.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild113.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild113.jpg.html)

The thing I have to watch out for here is keeping good alignment, so when things settled some after fussing with it, I taped over the JB Weld, attached the other shell and taped the pop-up into place.

This is the stop rotated into it's normal position. The nice thing about doing it this way is the stop is near the center line which helps keep the pop-up from getting tilted.

I've got a working prototype now for the catch and release. So far it's been 100% reliable and I think I'll go with it. The release button will need a retainer added to keep it from falling out but that will get done after painting. This one shows some extra bends and so forth from the experimentation but has the concept well in hand.

OK, here is the refined version of the latch. Not much changed save the tab is bent differently.

And here's the first pop-up back plate. Whats different about this tricorder is the cover doesn't show from the sides so just making a full plate looks wrong also that cover has rounded edges that match the graphic. So strips with curved tops need to be made and glued to the pop-up.

The power wires will route right over one of the tubes as the only place they will be out of the way.

Update.

All the pop-up backs are build now and I'm moving on to the vacuform half again. First off is the screen. I was thinking seriously about using a Chronoworx LCD screen on mine and a couple of others but the screens are too small and would look odd. So I scaled that plan back and have made a graphic for them. I used the blue and green movie era display theme.http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/FutureScreens003.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/FutureScreens003.jpg.html)

And came up with this. The shadow on the lower right is my finger holding the transparency in.
I did recreate the circular bit from a pic I saw in the webs but the rest I made up.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/FutureScreens007.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/FutureScreens007.jpg.html)

So I've made one smoked acrylic display by making a styrene strip frame and dropping the parts in. The back light is made from two cut down light strips salvaged from defective IV pump displays. For this test I just taped them on and taped some white paper over them.

Then moving on to the two LCD units, the first job was installing the three switches that operate the display. The obvious place for them was the three pads labeled 1, 2, and 3 just below the projection.

So it's nearly midnight on Friday and I'm beat, but I had a productive week. All the other five tricorders have the curved plate installed which was the last external feature to create. Yay beer! And between last night and today nearly the electronics are installed. Yay beer!

The four units not getting the LCD's needed sound boards so I started that by working on the sound file to stretch the length to two minutes and thirty seconds and remove some noise. I really love Magix Audio Cleaning Lab software! The sound I'm using is the MkVII sound and the length lets me use a BigDawg 220 second board which is plenty long.

Here's the board cut down and fitted with a 5 volt regulator. Same as I've done before with the TWOK tricorders.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild167.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild167.jpg.html)

And the insatllation.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild168.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild168.jpg.html)

Next came installing the batteries after attaching wires to the connector. The LCD tricorder is on the right.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild169.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild169.jpg.html)

Following that was building the charge ports and wiring them all together. The LCD versions use another PCB which is a 5 volt supply plus a different speaker installation.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild171.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild171.jpg.html)

LCD version.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild174.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild174.jpg.html)

Well at this point I tested the whole package sans the display to see what's what and discovered I have a problem. The pop-up circuit boards are sequencing erratically which never occurred running off just a 9 volt. I tried a couple of the others to make sure it wasn't just the one board. The good news is I think it's just a matter of filtering power supply noise with a capacitor but that's a battle for tomorrow.

Good question. I buy these replacement battery kits for Canon camcorders from Amazon which were $17.99 last time I ordered. They come with a charger that works on AC or 12 volt car adapter, and two batteries.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild175.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild175.jpg.html)

http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild177.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild177.jpg.html)

http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild178.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild178.jpg.html)

Then I modify the charger and batteries by adding a pair of wires to the battery connector, and half of a mini phone plug to mini phone plug cable.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild179.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild179.jpg.html)

The battery wires then connect to a switched mini phone jack such that when the plug is inserted, the battery positive gets disconnected from the circuit and connected to the charger. Remove the plug and the battery positive connects to the circuit. I usually have to do a little bending on the jack to make the switching reliable.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild180.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild180.jpg.html)

That's it. The nice thing about this battery is it's high AH rating, and if it fails sometime in the future, it can be replaced with a standard alkaline 9 volt.

Here's one of the sound boards I use and modify as needed. These can store one long audio file or be broken up into several smaller segments depending on how you configure the edge connector. Writing to the addresses is by USB interface and is as simple as plugging the board in and playing the file from the interface software.

So I was right about power supply noise being the problem with the pop-up circuit. I added a 330nF capacitor across the power input terminals and that solved it. I also wired on the power leads and connectors.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild182.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild182.jpg.html)

I was going to wait until final assembly to add on the back lights but it occurred to me I could just leave them wired in but unfitted and complete the wiring.
http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd52/sirwinpb/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild183.jpg (http://s225.photobucket.com/user/sirwinpb/media/Future%20Tricorder/GenerationsTricorderBuild183.jpg.html)

So a full mock up was needed to see if any last problems arose and it's all working nicely. On to the LCD board version reed switches and magnets.

Well I got the one LCD I have on hand installed and it didn't turn out in the way I had thought as regards power and reed switches. I had thought that I needed to first establish power through the lever switch while having the opening reed under the influence of it's magnet. Then as the pop-up continued to rise the magnet would move away from the opening reed and the LCD would light. As the pop-up continued to rise the other magnet would come into influence of the closing reed so when you closed it, that magnet would move away from the closing reed and shut down the LCD with the closing ratchet sound.

What actually would happen was when the closing reed magnet came into influence the reed the LCD would shut down with the closing sound. This is just the opposite of what would happen on a MKVII using the same system so I'm confused and I double checked the reed to be a NO type.

Long story short, it turns out I don't even need the opening reed at all because the LCD powers on when the battery gets connected. For closing I just hooked up the NO side of the opening reed to the closing reed connection and as it closes the magnet comes into influence and it shuts down with the closing ratchet sound. Weird but it works.

In any case, we'll see what the LCD board that's on it's way does to see if I'm crazy.

Here's how I set up the reeds and magnets.

Opening reed.

Bad news as some of the resin parts have spots where the paint will not cure. The same problem I had with the TWOK tricorder run a year ago and the parts were from the same source around the same time. This problem is not typical!

Anyway, time to update. I've no pics but the bad spots have been excised, rebuilt, and are in a state of primer now. I haven't been able to do much since last Saturday with the home construction I'm working on taking up most of my time and then leaving me weak and helpless afterward. :P/>

Good news is the major structural work on my house will be done by the end of this coming weekend. This afternoon involved pouring 29 80 lbs bags of concrete into the first foundation underpinning. Tomorrow the second underpinning will be made ready for concrete, signed off in the afternoon(I hope), and concrete work set for Thursday. This is young mans work and I'm not young anymore! :(/>

Are you making it earthquake proof or adding on an inlaw unit for when (not if) the big one hits Napa...again? We just had a 2.8 in Yountville two days ago-just a jolt...just I was being depth charged in Aces of the Deep though!

Earthquake proof? Not really, but we're removing a wall which requires a beam to be installed between and well above where the underpinnings are being created. That is one of the areas that is not bolted to the foundation so it's also getting bolted which will help with the earthquake stability. All that leads to a new kitchen, new plumbing, new electrics, and poverty. :yeah:

The house is ninety years old and this job is fixing the worst area of the foundation, removing pretty much all of the knob and tube electrics as well as replacing the old fuse box service with a modern 200 amp service, replacing the gas lines, and installing a tankless water heater.

I think I'd be moving into something already built with the above specifications because like you, I'm not young anymore :)

Past time for an update. I've finished all six of the Future tricorders and have moved on. I can't remember if I described having the same paint curing problems with these that I had with the TWOK tricorders, but I did and had to excise material on several of the resin castings.

I also had the graphics printed onto 4 mil vinyl sticker sheets because the ones I made off my printer were not flexible enough to adhere well.

Cool! how goes the house remodel?

Buddahaid
05-11-15, 01:01 AM
House remodel is going well but not done yet. All the structural work is done, Nearly all the electrical and plumbing is done. The kitchen is mostly all together and only one final building inspection left to pass. The french drain is no closer to being done though.

What's left to do with the electrical is one ceiling lighting circuit to replace and the kitchen island to wire. The island will have the dishwasher, disposal, and two outlets. The ceiling light circuit already has a new cable ran but it's not connected to anything yet. That will remove the last knob and tube wiring in the house. Oh, and PG&E still needs to do their part in moving the meter to the new service and transferring the overhead wiring to the new weather head. When done there will only be three circuits in the house using older romex wiring. Everything else will be new.

On the plumbing front, all that's left is connecting the island and only the main bath will be using the old galvanized pipe. That will be a future project which will be a lot easier to get done since I've installed ball valves that isolate it from the new plumbing. We can't do it now because of all the stuff we moved to make room to do all the rest.

In the kitchen, the new floor is done, the ceiling is finished which incorporates twelve LED light cans and a new venting skylight, the custom built cabinets are installed, and the fridge, range, and hood are installed. We still need to paint the walls but before that the old wainscoting needs some restoration. The counters and back splash still need to be done, as well as the under cabinet LED light strips. Most of the outlets also need to have the final 20 amp tamper proof and GFI receptacles put in. Right now they are using temporary old ones that the dry wall mudders could mess up all they wanted. Aso the crown molding isn't yet finished. Only the parts where the cabinets are is installed is up. The cabinets also need the glass put in the doors that will have glass fronts, and we need to put earthquake latches on them.

Damn, I'm tired just typing this up. :yeah:

@ Buddahaid: any new remodel pics; I'm just starting a kitchen job myself: floors to ceiling: all-new plumbing, Fuse panel, cabinets & appliances(after twenty years the head-chef wants a whole new deal:salute:$$$:wah:) I'll have to get a motel for part of it according to the designer. Rule 1 of domestic bliss-shutup and pay!:O: We'll go with wood floors and butcher-block counters as the floor/counter tiles I lovingly installed some decades ago cracked badly in the last two quakes. Wrapping my old appraiser head around it :ping::ping::ping:: the kitchen is the be$t return for the investment on any house so without over-improving for the 'hood, it should reflect well if I sell.:hmmm: Hey u got something laying around so I can just beam myself 'up there' :shucks:

Well I just deleted all I'd typed happily so I'll start over. :88)

We basically went from an area divided into three small rooms to one large(at least for this house) room with new gas, plumbing, electrical, flooring, windows, a venting skylight, cabinets, and appliances. The house is ninety years old and happily I'd saved up so there is no debt involved.

The floor is 6" x 24" porcelain tile in a herringbone pattern.

Great looking-don't forget the earthquake latches on all the upper crockery cabinets-always the worst disaster area (X 2). Yours actually looks like my present décor cabinet- wise. We had chopped out the original stained plywood doors and put in glass and painted everything white. I love that stove and the center-isle wet-sink under the skylight! Good living-space layout for the 'center of the home'. We're also plumbing in the gas line under the crawlspace from the water-heater cabinet outside off the porch to put in a gas range. The fridge will have the condenser up top to fit flush to the wall...or so my wallet is informed on a need-to-know basis...and apparently I've staggered through life without a 'farm sink'http://www.bluebath.com/media/cms_pages/farmsinks/farmsink_fireclay.jpg (http://www.bluebath.com/kitchen/sinks/fireclay/farmhouse.html) <PSSST just leave that bottle
and a pot-filler spigot above the stove long enough! :dead:http://p-fst2.pixstatic.com/506a28ccd9127e30ea00106f._w.450_s.fit_.jpg

Here's what we're doing with the back splash. The photo was to show the mold I just made not the tile.

Oh wow I love your stove! We considered the pot filler but decided against it in the end. Yeah the earthquake latches, sigh......every cabinet and drawer use soft close hardware which is really cool but..... Not 'if'...'when' in CA: Just all the uppers with the indispensable daily stuff; the heavy lower storage rides it out-about three hours work with a 49r's game in the background. That's not the stove (sigh! I love retro) I was just showing a pot spigot. A Dacor Dual Fuel is what SWMBO has in mind; at least we don't need a hood/vent and will put in perimeter lights all around to replace the two 4' hanging lamps less than a year old from Marin lamps. The designer did a whole computer illustration/layout and is a tad high on appliance costs IMHO; so we're second-glancing more rea$onable stuff. Four of the neighbors on my block, one a professional chef, have done this also and we all have the same 50 yr. tract houses. and compare notes. That looks like my Burmese cat on your counter:D Does he like a slurp from the faucet too?

Buddahaid

The appliances are steep but we bought them last December on a sale. The dishwasher was free with the range and the range we had picked out got further reduced due to one having been delivered by mistake and returned a day or two earlier still on the palette but the box partly removed. The fridge is a different brand, Bosch, with the handles replaced with Thermador handles so it ties in. Fridges are funny animals. They're often made by the same factory and identical but can be priced hundreds of dollars different because of the brand badge.

That cat is Chocolate and I stole him as a kitten from a neighbor. Found him hanging out in the yard way too young to be outside alone and really affectionate. I put a sign out and the neighbor claimed him. Two weeks later he's in the yard again so I took him in and never heard a word from the neighbor. He's a great guy and really gentle and sociable.

We had two other brothers then as well. Both have since died from kidney failure and we have two more kittens now. Chocolate loves them. Our vet fast tracked us with the humane society for them and they were born there. They're brother and sister but they look very different and we named them Gelato and Tiramisu.

Gelato the white guy and they are all indoor cats.

Something new to add. This is the early 2360 style Medkit used for some TV show I won't name.

It is created from raw vacuformed Styrene shells pulled from bucks created in Fusion 360 by other parties. The rest of the 3D print parts were designed by me also using Fusion 360 and the model that the bucks were formed from.

The electronics and graphics were all my creation using off the shelf circuits available from Adafruit and using Adobe Illustrator.

Thank you, these were a huge job to sort out.

I use Arduino code to drive an 8x8 matrix driver board for the sequencing LEDs. That allows you to control up to 64 LEDs which don't have to be physically lined up in the matrix as long as they are wired up as columns and rows.

The animation is about forty or so frames long and then repeats. Essentially you make one Illustrator image that gets modified for the next frame etc. until you have enough for the animation. Those get exported into Photoshop which allows them to be sequenced into a timeline video that can be converted to mp4, or GIF, for that matter.
