If he had spent more time dealing with his situational awareness instead of exhorting his crew to follow the orders they had already completed, he might still have a career.

Then again - even a near miss is pretty inexcusable.

He's so expletived.

Mind you, the USN had a bad 2012 for commanding officers staying in command.

I notice he still has a career of some sorts.

The Navy says Rear Adm. Dave Thomas reassigned Arriola to the staff of Naval Surface Force Atlantic because of a loss of confidence in Arriola's ability to command.

CO should have brassed up and told everyone to STFU and handled the situation... when in doubt give way. There really isnt much to excuse a collision between a warship and a merchant.

was the weather a factor? were there numerous ships in tight quarters?

honestly there were too many opinions on the bridge and not enough Command authority

I notice he still has a career of some sorts. It is not PC to muster a minority out of the service anymore. He must have learned how to captain a ship from a video game, where they can go from 0 to 20 knots in a instant.

That's standard in every navy. The command career is over but you have to do something really bad to be kicked out altogether.

Even Milne and Troubridge stayed in the RN.

I can deal with a captain making a mistake, but the ignoring of warnings from his underlings.

He saw his men as servants, to be ignored on a whim, and reaped the whirlwind.

It is a shame I have to pay this doddering dunderhead pension the rest of his inept, and hardheaded life.

Sad he didn't sink, I am sick of paying for the inept, to be inept.

Agreed but not a comfortable arrangement despite past history.

The USAF will top the Navy in 2013.A few weeks ago the officer that the USAF placed as the head of a group whose goal is to prevent sexual assault was charged with wait for it sexual battery.:yeah:
