Greetings, everyone! I am a long-time on-and-off lurker who has recently found how awesome SH4 is. My first subsim was Silent Service for NES, and I really enjoyed 688(i) in its day. My favorite history subject is the war in the Pacific, so I don't know how I missed out on SH4 for so long.

I am looking forward to getting to know you all, and welcome suggestions for new SH4 skippers.

So, with that out of the way...

Permission to come aboard? :salute:

G'day Rambler,

I'm with you on the pacific theatre, so much going on and a bit closer to home for me. Still, I can't help but think of SH3 as the benchmark. Have you tried SH5?

My first subsim was 'The Hunt for Red October - based on the book', things have come a long way!:haha:

No, SH4 is my first Silent Hunter game. I was tempted to pick up SH5 on Steam since it's so cheap, but have yet to.

I think I remember playing that. I also enjoyed Red Storm Rising (the game and the book :)). My favorite war game of all time, though, has to be PTO by Koei. I played the crap out of that one for SNES growing up. :)

Welcome Aboard!

I love learning about the Pacific War. It's the most interesting part of WW2. :smug:

Thanks for the heads up. I've been following that thread and meant to post my experiences thus far re: Steam version of SH4 with the 4gb patch applied.

I think I picked up the SH5 hardcopy for about $10, would def recommend going that way; last time I checked TDW's fixes weren't compatable with the steam dowload though that may have changed.

THfRO- based on the book; was that circa 1987? I had it on my Amstrad PC1512, with a monochrome monitor! :haha:

Good your getting in to SH4, when you get to 194* (oops I forget the year ) I can help you get the option for dual deck guns working properly :arrgh!:, and If ya get bored I also have a playable Iowa mod from an unknown auther too.
