Better safe than sorry.

Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie has undergone a double mastectomy to reduce her chances of getting breast cancer.

The 37-year-old mother of six has explained her reasons for having the surgery in the New York Times.

She said her doctors estimated she had an 87% risk of breast cancer and a 50% risk of ovarian cancer. "I decided to be proactive and to minimise the risk as much I could," she wrote.

Her partner, Brad Pitt, praised her choice as "absolutely heroic".

I guess she's adopted enough youngins to not be worried about breast feeding one of her own. Not to mention the increased chance of passing the gene along to her natural offspring. But, still! They were such magnificent breasts.:shifty:

I don't recall them being much to look at anyway. If they were, they certainly didn't leave an impression.

Heroic? She's got all the time and money in the world to go through this and have the best reconstructive surgery in the world done.

"Gentlemen, we can rebuild them. We have the technology. We can make them better than they were. Better...bigger...rounder."

They did say she had reconstructive surgery. They're probably more magnificent than they were before.

Someone once asked me whether I could tell the difference between real and fake breasts. I figure that if I can touch them, they're real enough for me. :D

Good one.

I don't mind them fake if they were a) reconstrutve or b) enhanced flat chest

I cant stand them if they were already nice and they just made them bigger for some cheap attention

Im sorry to hear that to the same extent I'd be sorry for anyone else with the same thing.
but for me anything concerning a celebrity is not 'news'.
Ill just leave it at that.

Well since it recently happened, I guess that it IS news.

If it's celebrity, it's news to be reported to the gullible masses. <shrug>

I think it's a brave decision on her part but not all that newsworthy...many other non celebrities go through with this sort of operation and don't get any mention at all.

I’m guessing for a ton of cash like Angelina Jolie has, you probably don’t get the bolt-ons either, but really nice Kate Upton replicas.

Stories about celebrities are not a modern phenomenon.

A person in the public eye is relevant to public interest, papers will be sold reporting this news.

It's certainly not a conspiracy like you're alluding to.

Most news services are capable of publishing multiple news stories that may be of interest to different types of people.

I don't think anyone would like a news service that only covers one story at a time. :nope:

You never hear someone say "What's the new" or "What's the latest new". Who would buy a newpaper?

My guess would be that she had the plumbing removed and replaced with silicone implants.

WARNING! May not be appropriate for the younger ones. However, they might find it funny.

Anybody else seen that South Park episode? It's the funniest one.

Length times diameter plus the weight over the girth all divided by the angle of the tip squared.

Glad she can afford it, as I highly doubt insurance covers such.

It's probably a good thing, in that it brings attention to breast cancer. However, I don't know if medical insurance would cover such a measure for most, plus the reconstruction process of new boobs.

Wonder if all the press coverage got her a discount or a freebie even.

There is no set price for double mastectomy and implant-based reconstruction. Because these procedures are normally covered by insurance, there is no set price from surgeons.

Insurance must cover post mastectomy reconstruction with the diagnosis of breast cancer. Now with the breast cancer gene BRCA testing, I have not seen insurance companies deny treatment even without the definitive diagnosis.

EDIT: I was going to post the source, but there is a lot of 'top' nudity...You'll have to investigate on your own.
