IX in 1939

I became a IX-fan during the time and so here is my question:
Is it possible to make a Typ IX playable in 1939 for GWX3.0?

Not only possible, but easy. If you use SH3 Commander you can go straight to Commander's Cfg folder and change

Doesn't that change just the availability? If he wants to start with IXB right away, he should look at Flotilla.cfg. Just finding chosen flotilla and year should be easy, Then just to change the TypeSub and VersionSub.

That's all that needs to be changed when you use Commander. The IXB is already in the 2nd Flotilla, it just doesn't show up until December. That change lets it show up in August, or September, whenever you choose.

Are the same changes necessary for the IXC?

EDIT: Got it, take care of the checkbox for the "Correct U-boat availability dates"

EDIT2: The IXB works, but when I use the same date(6,1939) for the IXC it doesn´t work. I can select the IX but on the loadout screen I have a Typ II turret(wtf)!!!

That may have been what MantiBrutalis was talking about. I don't know, but maybe the IXB is listed in the main game files as being ready at the beginning of the war, and Commander had it starting in December, which was when the real IXB was available (the version that started the war was the IX [there was no IXA]). If the game lists the IXC as starting later, maybe there are othe parameters that need to be changed.

basic.CFG might need to be edited as some dates are listed there especially for upgrades. but then again i think SH3C should have handled that so it might be flotilla that needs to be edited i would recommend poking around. also might need to look for prototype dates that may also need editing.

If you change the date for the IXC in your U boat availability to 1, 1940 it works. Thats early enough.

As I said, for the IXC you have to directly change the Flotilla.cfg. All the "TypeSub" and "VersionSub" parameters are there, shouldn't be that hard... Actually, let me screw around with the file, I'll be back with the answer soon.

So, the problem with the IXC is, that it doesn't have a loadout preset for 1939 (unlike VIIB, VIIC, IIA, IID and IXB).

What to do? Make one!

0. Back-up your file!!! (I didn't. I have like 6+ copies od the game folder all over the place, so I should be ok.)

1. Open basic.cfg

2. Locate
[SUBMARINE_AMMO7];IXC
Type=2
Version=1
ForeTubes=4
AftTubes=2
etc.

3. Copy the paragraph
Year0=1940
ForeTube00=2 ;T1
ForeTube01=2
ForeTube02=2
...
...
RadarCoatings_00=-1
Renown0=9000

And paste it again, so you have two of them now.

4. Change the first paragraph's first line to Year0=1939 and every next one to Year1=1940, Year2=1941, etc.

5. Bam! Your IXC now starts with IX/1 tower... Well, it doesn't have the heavy flak yet, it isn't available this early. But who fights planes anyway? (If you do, I can probably make that work too)

6. If it breaks your game - I warned you, you should have done a back-up.
