I saw this on the news earlier and thought 'WOW!' :o
Three young women who vanished in separate incidents about a decade ago in the US state of Ohio have been found alive in a house in Cleveland.
Amanda Berry disappeared aged 16 in 2003, Gina DeJesus went missing aged 14 a year later, and Michelle Knight disappeared in 2002 aged around 19.

It wasn't Frau's Neu Haus was it - she may have opened that locked room. :hmm2:
Overall it's great news, I hope relatively little harm of any form was done to the girls, and I hope the transition back to their families is as easy as possible. Not a job I'd relish.

Yeah, it's the top story here in Ohio. And on the national news as well, obviously, but Cleveland is still kinda "local" for us since even us Cincinnatians have to admit that it's in the same state. :O:
It is really amazing, especially since there were three women and apparently some children - who may or may not be their biological offspring - being held in that house and there was nothing that tipped off the rest of the neighborhood.
One neighbor interviewed this morning said that a couple years back he and his family heard a woman scream somewhere nearby but since they were all in their house at the time they couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from. He said one of them called the police and reported it but if they came to the neighborhood presumably there was no further disturbance or signs of a problem so there was nothing authorities could follow up on.
Certainly a happy day for the families and loved ones of the women involved, one hopes that they are in decent health and can have the time and space needed to adjust and reconnect.

I suspect most of the trauma will be of a mental/psychological type.

It was just on the news here in Ireland. It is really, really strange.

This case is quite something to think about. Incredible these three were not discovered for such a long time.

MANDATORY DEATH SENTENCES IN THESE TYPES OF HOSTAGE CASES, AND ANY OTHER RAPE FOR THAT MATTER.

Hard to believe 3 nut men could do or partake of this together, much less one. Be interesting to find out how she finally escaped after all these years. It's obvious she had to have a baby in captivity. I can't imagine the abuse these women suffered by these men. They all should be put to death.

Its amazing that these 3 women can be kept for 10 years in a built up neighbouhood only a short distance from where they all disappeared with no one noticing.

Using BIG LETTERS just emphasises how much that post of yours makes no sense.

What do you mean? I think it makes enough sense, I'm no English major but I think I worded it right, no?

Wait, I think I figured out what you're talking about:
I see I accidentally used the word hostage instead of captive.
Noted.
Sorry, for personal reasons, I take these types of cases personally. And as a result, I sometimes type fast and use the wrong word.

It is simple enough, mandatory sentencing often makes no sense, in this case you managed to be also calling for the death penalty to include for example something like 2 17year olds in Tennessee or Florida choosing to get it on together.

Understood, but in most matters it is better to put emotions to the back when looking at such hot issues. It's not always easy, indeed it's not always possible, but it is always neccesary.

When ever I hear of cases like this, I think "what about long term kidnappings don't we know about?" :nope:
There was a time when I would not have believed that someone could keep a captive for 10 years....... then I turned on the news.
Very scary.

Haha, this guy is a hoot. "Bro, I BBQ with this dude, eat ribs with this dude, listen to salsa music together."
A sad and depressing occurrence. It's very strange that 3 people could be held against their will for so long; and in an urban area, too.
Nobody will ever be able to restore all the years these women have missed out on. :nope:

I'd bet they get shanking in prison ASAP.
:03:
I've already heard there's a bounty on them.

Yeah, agreed, he's a good guy. I love his straight-forward sense of urgency with the 911 operator.
Now the race card has been thrown into the mix (http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2013/05/07/charles_ramsey_amanda_berry_rescuer_becomes_intern et_meme_video.html). So what, he's funny, and he knows it. He did a great deed and is being praised, while his sense of humor and style are also being lauded. I imagine if an East Texas hillbilly had done this and was being interviewed, there would be no shortage of laughs at his style. People need to lighten up.

Some have obviously seized on the opportunistic bandwagon as a result of his final comment during the interview, the one regarding a white woman running into a black mans arms.
Me, I'd buy and share a beer with that guy any day...at least you know your daughter and family would be safe in his company.

MANDATORY DEATH SENTENCES IN THESE TYPES OF HOSTAGE CASES, AND ANY OTHER RAPE FOR THAT MATTER.Okay, fine. Now please imagine yourself into kidnapper's boots now (yeah I know its hard). If there is automatic death sentence why would you spare your kidnapping/rape victim(s)'s life? Why not just slit that little girl's throath so she won't tell anyone?
I'm all for tough penalties but mandatory death sentence severely endangers victims' lives.

I think they'd just as likely slit her throat to escape the kidnapping charge. Hostages have been killed for a lot less.

I think they'd just as likely slit her throat to escape the kidnapping charge. Hostages have been killed for a lot less. That is ofcourse possible but not all rape cases include kidnapping (atleast not here in another side of pond) and victim is usually not killed. Why not I don't know for sure but I would guess that "only" raping having lesser consequences than rape & murder would have something to do with it.
