As most of us know, dash cams in Russia are there to catch the bad side of humanity, road rage, crashes, scams, but occasionally, just occasionally, they also catch the good side:

Not a whole lot to add, but a bump and a +1 for a nice post from a nice guy.

People are people, good ones and bad ones. It's too bad that the bad ones get so much press that we need our faith in humanity "restored". Still, it's always nice to see people doing nice things.

Thanks Jamie. :sunny:

Thanks.

I wish I could watch that video...but my internet is being spotty.

I don't have much faith in humanity anymore.

Thanks for posting this. It's very moving. Like the guy says in the Youtube comments, Russians are good people by and large.

They've had centuries of oppression, invasions etc and they've developed a deep spirituality. I hope the goodness spreads.

Actually it's kind of sad that this behaviour has to be marked as something special. I try to live the way shown in the video (helping people who got stuck in the snow etc...and generally trying to be a nice guy) but I've noticed that this has become pretty rare or you get even looked down upon you by others.:-?

Nice one!

I must admit I expected any second that the guys beat up the grannies and rob them (or vice versa), or the person at 1:15 getting shot with an AK for touching another car...:arrgh!:

Great to see that kind of video for a change. But the pedant in me must point out a couple of things.

1. 4.36 - 4.43 is UK footage.

2. When our Norwegian lords and masters visit us and talk about how the company is doing they always mention the eastern European ventures, specifically trucks entering Russia (amongst others) where all the correct paperwork is supplied and still a substantial 'fine' is levied with no further paperwork given or requested. :hmm2:

But yeah, nice to see the good stuff.

Touching video to be sure.

As i was watching it though, it occurred to me that not once, in my entire life, have I seen anyone, help an old lady (or old man) across a street. In fact, I am hard pressed to recall being witness to ANY act of kindness from a stranger or good simaritian. Growing up in California, what I do recall seeing though, is people passing by any given scene, and not getting involved. Perhaps out of fear of physical danger, or out of fear of litigation, or simply because they didn't want to be inconvenienced. As the saying goes, no good deed goes unpunished. So, good people are few and far between.

You still haven't met me. When I was homeless I spent a lot of time riding around on the bus and train. I met several people from out of town (or out of country), and always found myself not only telling them how to get where they wanted to go, but actually going with them to make sure they got there alright. The funny part is that I don't consider myself a good person.

So, good people are few and far between.
I have to disagree. I've seen many people do very good things, and not just in Utah.

I may have got it from my dad, who was one of several motorists who went to the aid of a motorcyclist who took a spill in a busy intersection (in California), but I think the reality is that there as many good people as there are bad. Most of the bad things and most of the good things take place out of our sight, but they are there.

I had a 4 paragraph response, but canceled it, because rereading it, it turned into a 4 paragraph rant about California. Suffice to say, the culture in Utah is different then in California. I don't have much in the way of kind things to say about that state. But more to the topic my faith in humanity remains at an abysmally low level.

Great video in the original post, but I'm a , "ill believe it when i see it myself" kind of guy on this kind of thing. I've seen far too much bad to think any different.

Personally I feel that people these days have a bad impression about humanity because the media always focuses on the bad and not very much on the good.

for example a few weeks ago a guy in Philly saved another man who had fallen onto the subway tracks that hardly got noticed while the New York subway pusher got mentioned for days on the news.

The lame stream media(all of them CNN,Fox,NBC) are bunch of money grabbing pessimists.

That is not to say that there are screwed up people and screwed up things happening but that is what gets the attention."If it bleeds it leads".

You just have to rise above the the bad and focus on the good and do good yourself and not for the attention of it but because you really want to often a good deed is usually
the more difficult route. It is easier to hate or be indifferent towards someone than it is to love them.Apathy is the worst human trait.

With all due respect, I think you have too many negative expectations in how this thread will roll.
The title of the thread is about restoring faith, meaning something has vanished before. This is directly connected to negative experiences = what we hate about people. The question if we, as the human race are good or bad, is still out, I don't see Oberon making a statement into any direction.

Even Ducimus, who says he has little faith in humanity called the video "touching". Also he states his reasons/experiences why he has a negative outlook. Further he refrained from a rant about Californians (which I personally would have liked to read, but I'm also just a negative person:)). RedOctober, hasn't seen the vid, but says he also has no faith in humans. I certainly can't blame any of them for their views- :shifty:
Regarding the vid: I don't equal mocking with hate - the first one is much healthier for us than the second.:)

Well, in my next response to Steve I'll write something positive. :sunny:

Homeless/street people a great source of information when being in an unknown city.

After some beach vacation in the Netherlands with two friends, we spontaniously decided to stay a day longer and check out Amsterdam - so we were not the best prepared tourists in terms of where to go and what to see ;).
A homeless guy approached us and talked to us for a while, then offered us to show us a little around. It was a great experience. As we were teens, we were chronicly low on cash, he showed us where the natives buy food and drinks, a gigantic price difference to the tourist shops! Also he showed us some off the beaten path stuff, in some little side streets, where we normally wouldn't have gone, as a they didn't look too interesting on the first glance. Told us which museums are cool and which are nothing but tourist traps (sadly didn't really have the time to visit one)
Of course we were a little sceptical first, but the guy was really genuine - it helped us that we were also "street smart" in our judgement.
He was pretty proud of his hometown so he just showed us around, he was also interested in hearing stuff about the town we came from, so we exchanged many stories.

All he wanted in exchange was some puffs from the reefer we rolled, when we sat down in a park to relax - which we would have shared with him anyway.
Though he didn't ask for it, we gave him some extra pot as a little tip when we left.
If it was just some kind of business model for this guy, well it worked, though he probably would had made more money during the time he spent with us with begging - or mugging us :arrgh!:
Maybe he was just some random good person.
