Hi mates. Since we are all invited to introduce ourselves upon boarding ship, here's my say.
I've been "shadowing" SubSim for a few weeks, and I finaly decided to join the navy.
Topics are great and very usefull.
I am currently enjoying SH3, after a few years of SH2.
I got addicted to Silent Hunter back in 1998. A friend of mine gave me a four game pack from SSI, Ultimate World War II Wargame Collection for my birthday. Instantly loved PG2, and Silent Hunter (a DOS game, do you remember).
All these years went by after I could no longer run Silent Hunter. An upgraded machine was no longer compatible despite runing Win98SE. I have enjoyed sailing with SH2 and recently SH3, but I keep dreaming of returning to the Pacific, so SH4 is next in line. My "tardiness" discovering these games is usually due to me trying to save money and refrain from frequently upgrading to the latest state of the art components. My current PC is an HP with a Core2Duo 1.8Ghz. Someone had thrown it out because it wouldn't work. I took it home and promptly diagnosed a burnt graphics card - windfall :)
After reading some very usefull posts I came to realise Mod Devs deserve a lot of "renown" points for their labour of love, although I have yet to download my first mod for SH3. Going through basic.cfg just to fidle with with the "excessive fatigue" problem gave me a good idea of the Devs dedication to the war effort.
Thank you everyone.
