I played SH3 a lot last year with the gray wolves mod and it was great.

Im getting the itch to play a sub sim again but its kinda tempting to get the prettier version.

Have mods made this game up to part with SH3 modded?

Or is it still a very shallow game with a crappy campaign?

Try it modded with OHII Full (and others essential mods), and you'll see by yourself :O:

its come a long way but sh3 took 10 years of modding to get where its at with gwx so wait and in ten years sh5 will be in a position for it to be fair for you to ask that question.

as of right now sh5 is a long long way farther along with mods then sh3 was when it was first released, sh5 can and will be a lot better then sh3 in the near future mainly because there is so much more opportunity with modding it but even then sh3 will still be a great game in its own right.

SH3 was released in 2005 and GWX arrived on the scene one year later. Just saying.

SH5, despite some very talented modders and great mods, still cant shrug of its "arcadish" feeling and someone at UBI should be fired for that promotion points system, RPG-style. Having said that the game has more immension and feels more alive than the rather robotic SH3 environment. And of course OHII together with Dynamic Environment is the closest thing you can come to actually feel the wind in your face. A must have hands down.

Still endless possibilites with this one.

game released 2005, today is 2013, that's 8 years so I stand corrected, I missed it by 2 years.

gwx has been in constant flux since it started and came a very long way from its release in 2006, just saying

also sh3 is even today still being improved by new mods, there is no denying sh3 has traveled miles farther then sh5 as far as being modded goes

I keep checking back here, just in case there is some new develepments with Sh5 modding, what has struck me is that while those who have poured time and energy in to fixing up Sh5 have done a great job, there simply are not enough of them do it.
A year after Sh3 and Sh4, the respective modding comminities were buzzing with activity.
I have just not seen this for Sh5 ever, instead the sh5 modding forum seemed pretty quiet these past 3 years, with just a small handful people taking on way too much.
I applaud there efforts and accomplishments, i really do, but i think the root of problem is simply that the enthusiasm and popularity for Sh5 was just never really there. As such the appetite to mod it just never caught on.
I cant see this changing any time soon.

The main difference itīs GWX vs Mod soup.

Sh3 itīs a lot more easy to use because itīs possible use GWX as a single pack. whereas in sh5 you have to deal with 50 or more mods and put it together in the correct order. A lot more difficult for the new users and a challenge for others , with CTD and mods incompatibilities.

I have to agree

maybe it was just so much of a turd on the floor when it arrived that most modders didn't feel like rebuilding the game from scratch the way they did with sh3 and sh4. I really think those with modding talent just said, nah im not interested in starting over with another huge never ending project again.

I know I have no desire to fool with it but then I have little to no time for gaming so im not playing now and I definitely have no time for modding any more and may not for a long long time if ever.

No. in my opinion. needs another 3-5 years of modding vis a vis GWX.

Most of these posts "is SH5 as good as GWX" are answered by people who just do not know what has or has not been done

Not so. There are also NYGM, LSH3 and WAC.

Also there is:-

Magnum Opus,

Late last year I installed 5 and spent many many hours installing mods watching helpful videos and so forth. Initially I was attracted to the graphics but soon realised the game was not in a normal state of play. I found the whole experience exhausting and finally uninstalled the lot. Frustration finally won over this unfinished product and if it were not for the modders this product would be dead in the water.

In my opinion it needs a GWX style super mod to bring together under one roof all the work done so far. This would make it accessible to people like me who have little understanding of the complexities of modding installing and uninstalling.

The game should be easily approachable to install and play. And in my recent experience its not. But this is not the responsibility of the modders but remains the responsibility of UBISOFT.
I'll give it another 12 months then try again.

hi Trevally

I did the Magnum Opus, but struggled with other game issues. there seems to be so much to do. ive not tried the others yet. and to be honest I don't have the time to experiment either.

SH3 runs so smoothly with GWX and all the other external mods I can apply easily....Im still in love with it! SH5 does not grab me the same way and yet the graphics are incredibly.

im looking forward to the day when I can get excited about it the same I get when I have a chance to go on SH3.
until then Ill leave alone until I feel confident its up SH3 standard.

...the mega-mod looks great but it seems to be all in German. and this is what I mean, I would have to trawl through it all and try to understand it then install it.
I want a one-fix mod that deals with all the known issues - what I don't want to have to do is start tweeking and messing around.
GWX does all that in one go - ive never had any serious issues with it - GWX is like a comfy pair of slippers.
so I believe - at the moment - SH5 has a fare way to go.
and thank you for link, I have it marked in case I get a rash of enthusiasm for it! :salute:

If you want to see how the game should've been delivered from the start use my Generic Patcher to patch the game files to remove bugs and add functionality. Then install a UI mod (of course I'm biased to my UIs mod). Then install my IRAI mod for the AI fix. Then install an environment mod (Dynamic environment is a good one). Then install my FX_Update mod to fix/improve the effects. Then install OHII for campaign improvements/additions. THAT is how the game should've been delivered from the start :yep:

This is a very common response to the SH5 forums work:yep:

What I don't get is this:-
Why do people who do not want to learn how set this game up to work the way it should, want to play a complex simulator anyway:06:
By its very nature it will have a long learning curve.

...because it requires a lot of spare time and patience and energy to do so. and some people, like me for example, don't have a lot of time to spare with work, children, other external commitments which eat away the hours.
I have work - a personal project, in the evenings too, I need a couple of hours to attend to this, and at weekends my children are here. so its very difficult to find time for this wonderful sim which I am eager to get on board with.
I hope that with the love and determination of the modders that one day we'll have a one stop fix, until then im looking for time...

I am optimist on this point, but we need for more modders and... more (modding) time :)

But those people, including me, want to spend that time learning to play the actual game and trying to work out how to get it to work. I fancied playing a sub sim yesterday, installed the game, then went through Sober's list of mods downloading each one. Obviously I did something wrong, but after a few hours all I had was a game that crashes to desk top.

I think I know were I went wrong, and will have another attempt later today, but I would have preferred to spend those hours at sea working out how to use by boat rather than downloading mod after mod.

I do need to say, I do appreciate all the hard work the modders put into the game.

Hi there

I played SH3 with GWX, NYGM, WAC and stock.
I liked particularly of the combination GW (since 2.0) and SHgen.
Wac also gave me very tense moments. After this, getting DCharged by BBs on SH5 can be frustrating (lol)

I believe modders should focus on single Project and get organized in a group like GW team was. Today I am downloading Soberīs all in one which i see as a BIG step ahead, to build a package.
Keep the good work guys!!

I agree..... If it had been like this for AOTD when I first started (as a youngster) I probably would have ended up shelfing the game.:shifty: Tho you could expect a level of quality out of the box (and a manual) in those days.....so there's that. :dead:
