My game won't patch properly.

God why is the SH series NEVER just a case of install and play. I am an average guy who doesn't have the knowledge to be able to fix these problems myself. I just want to install it and play it.

Why won't the 1.2 patch install?
It says my game isn't even installed when it clearly is.

Someone please help me with this.

Sorry you're having trouble. No, none of the SH series seems to work well out of the box. And WAEFRTD isn't an answer when they don't give you much D. Fortunately, there are folks here who will try to get you running.

Couple of questions: Where did you get your copy of the game? DVD or download? Where did you get your patch for v1.2? Did you use gu.exe? Have you looked at the upper right corner of the main menu screen to check the version number shown there? If it says V1.2.0, then your copy has already been patched.

I don't mean to impugn your competence with these questions. I'm just trying to figure out where the problem might be. Supply enough information and it's likely that someone here will recognize what is wrong and post a fix.

True, there are different patches for the boxed DVD version and the downloaded steam version. Also, did you alter the location of install from the default?

Well, none of the Ubisoft SH games work out of the box, though SH3 was at least playable. The original Silent Hunter, from SSI, worked perfectly.

Gents:

I am finally coming back to SH series. I played for two weeks patched 1.1. Worked fine. I started to research mods as to installation and if each was what I wanted...etc. I wanted to install a great mod that required patch 1.2. Naturally SH5 would not automatically update so I rand the GU installer which worked. I tried running the game through Uplay and would not work.

Is the download version compatible with patch 1.2 or is it like the steam dl version? If necessary I have found U.S. hard copies (disk and box) for $10.00 shipped from NY. Should I try running in the compatibility mode win 7?
