After sneaking into Truk Lagoon in the Barbarinna, and sinking a freighter, destroyer, FUSO BB, and Hiryu Fleet Carrier, my boat's batteries were quite low. Rather than risk a race to the open sea on the surface or just below it (partially submerged so that batteries would recharge), I moored in a nearby Japanese boat slip. It was bracketed by three freighters, so no destroyers located it. Then I surfaced and recharged the batteries. I took awhile as time compression was restricted to 4x, but finally was able to recharge them to the point where I could submerge and escape. After departing Truk, I made my way to Midway where I was awarded the Silver Star.

I'm playing if they sink me I restart, so that is way to risky for me lol.

Great work, did you take any screenshots?

no screenshots. I pulled this off once before, but on that occasion two destroyers and one patrol boat tried to sink my boat. The quay wall in the boat slip absorbed all of the depth charges. The destroyers sunk the patrol boat in their attack, but never hit my boat.

Going down, before the Admiral has you up on charges, please state your mods configuration, percent realism, etc. Those factors could weigh in his decision.

Actually, it never crossed my mind, until you guys mentioned it. However, I see no charges here. IGD has been a friend of mine for numerous years, I should've just took his word. He may be stupid, but he's never been a liar, so my apology to him.

Oh. My crew is modest. They did want me to disclose that after floating into Tokyo Bay on the surface in high tide in broad daylight, the Barbarinna successfully attacked and sunk the Yamamoto, which was surrounded and protected by eight dds, via a surface attack using only the deck mounted 50 caliber anti aircraft gun. There is no point in wasting torpedoes on the easy targets.

Wow, that was a close one!
Now back to my nap.

What's that old saying, "be careful what you wish for"?
If I recall, the next "person of interest" on Admiral Armistead's docket was one...."les green01". You might consider yourself fortunate that court was adjourned...for now, and continue to "lay low".

I know for a fact the Admiral does not take kindly to harbor-raiding. You don't mess with someone of the Admiral's self-appointed rank and stature and get away with it. Think I'm kidding, ask LCDR Eugene Williams...if you can find him. :)

Williams may have been cleared of charges but did you notice how he mysteriously disappeared after the trial. The Admiral is a very powerful and influential force. By the way, have you seen the Ubirat bilge lately, someone is down there scraping it and putting a new coat of paint on it. :hmmm:

Just to refresh your memory:
I've got a paint scraper and wire brush waiting for you when you get back, the Ubirat bilge needs a good cleaning.

Beware those devious homophones - a misplaced word anywhere in Subsim calls out like the bat-signal.

Viva la Steve! let no syntactical snafu or grammatical goofup go unanswered!

Have you considered running for Sheriff instead of Public Defender?

I'm currently trying to develop a drinking game around this - any takers?

I'm waiting on someone to really mess up. I wouldn't feel right charging IGD, be like bringing charges against a baby with a soiled diaper. Not to mention, he's really good at shining shoes.

Don't worry about the spelling, as a Ubirat of the highest character, you're safer than a baby cub.

Well, I also was wondering what mods config you were running when you did this IGD. I paid a visit to Truk lagoon last night, running the basic career in TMO 2.5, and it was a cake walk. I entered during the night from the south side of the atoll, since there's a small deep spot there, then went northwest into the fleet anchorage area. Sank a Hiryu carrier, and a Yamato BB that were there. Went in with 21 torpedos and came out with 3. I fired 4 bow tubes at the Hiryu and sank her first, then lined up the stern to shoot the Yamato. 3 of the 4 torpedos in that salvo went off prematurely, so I disabled the magnetic pistols on all the rest of my shots. I had to reload a couple of times to get it done, so I was in there long enough to do that, and had 3 premies, but nothing ever moved the whole time, no sound contacts at all, just radar. It's now early Nov. '42 and I'm in the Gudgeon (SS-211), refit with the '42 tower version. Actually I was a bit disappointed that it was so easy, though pleased with my tonnage total, which is now over 90k for this patrol, which I started just in late October of '42. Sank a Conte Verde liner after running an intercept on its convoy before I went to Truk. At any rate I got clear of the atoll before dawn, and saw only a search plane while making my way to Tulagi to rearm the boat.

Please say whether or not you were running RSRDC, cause if it's gonna be that easy to get in and out of there with the basic campaign in TMO, I'm probably not gonna go back, LOL!:haha:

It's that easy, regardless of TMO or RSRD. Bout the only thing is a few sub chasers that you can easily ignore. Haven't tried Travs mod yet, but it should make it harder.

One aspect of the game that's never been fixed is harbor raping, but I do think Trav's mod helps. I redid a few harbors like Truk, more shoreguns, subnets, minefields, subkiller groups, etc., so basically impossible to get in and out alive.

It would be a easy, yet time consuming mod to do, but maybe someone will, but again, I think Trav's additions will make harbor raiding a lil more fun.

I think most new players go througha harbor raiding stage for easy tonnage, later it becomes boring, so others don't take advantage. I know I did my fair share the first year I played.

One of these days I'm going to play again.....

Thanks for the note on your mods IGD. I may go back to Truk if I'm looking for an easy big tonnage total. I did give Koror a try last night as I'd heard there was a battleship anchorage there, and that was much more interesting to begin with as a pair of subchasers were patroling the deep water channel where I'd decided to enter. But after sinking those, not much else happened, and the harbor there turned out to be heavily populated with freighters, but the only warships I saw were the ASW craft that were patroling there. After poking around and finding nothing interesting I left by running over the reef on the west side after sunrise, and the only thing I had to worry about were aircraft, of which there is an annoying amount all around the Palaus it seems.

This is definitely the case for me anymore for the most part. I did alot of raiding up in Kushiro on Hokkaido after I found out that it was always loaded with shipping, at least in TMO. It also seems the game doesn't much like it when I leave a half-dozen or more wreaks behind in the shallow water of a harbor. It runs hashy after that and once even crashed when I tried to dock at Pearl after leaving about eight wreaks behind me at Kushiro.:arrgh!:
