View Full Version : what time compression do you use?

Hey there, I just wanted to know, if you use time compression during a "Feindfahrt" and if you do, how fast do you travel?
Max TC = 4096X
Really helpful for those long, boring trips to the US east coast, Caribbean, South America, and the Indian Ocean.
I've also reset my TC defaults as follows, especially "Land Proximity"
[TIME COMPRESSION]
TimeStop=0
RealTime=1
LandProximity=512
CriticalDamage=1
CrewEfficiency=1
AirEnemyDetected=1
SoundEffects=2
CharacterAnim=4
EnemyDetected=1
RadioReport=8
Particles=8
PrayState=128
HunterState=128
3DRender=32
Maximum=4096
That said, your ability to run a given maximum TC depends on your system specs and the presence (or absence) of the 4 GB patch.
I run GWX Gold with the 4GB patch on this system:
CPU: AMD Phenom II 4x 970 Black Edition 3.5 GHz
RAM: 8 GB (4 x 2GB 240 pin DIMMs DDR3 PC3-10600 unbuffered)
VIDEO: Sapphire (ATI) Radeon 5770 (1 GB)
HDD: Seagate 500 GB SATA 7200 rpm
I can run up to 90 fps at 4096X in mid-ocean with nothing around. It slows down to around 4 fps if something big (convoy) is about to spawn or is passing nearby (usually beyond visual range).
280 fps at 2048X
380 fps at 1024X
420 fps at 512X
Addendum: I get a weather report from my WO every 12 hours and slow down TC if visibility is poor. During heavy rain and poor visibility, your watch crew won't see a vessel until it's within short range. At very high TC, it is on top of you before the game can drop TC to 1X and issue (and you can react to) the "ship spotted" warning. If that ship is a warship, you've had it.

Usually not more than 1024x. When traversing known enemy waters I don't go above 256x.

No more than 128x at all times!
It takes two days real time to reach the US east coast!
...always according to environment: when nothing much is happening 128 max.
across oceans 1024.
hydro search 32 max
...when I have to use the ablutions or take a shower, dive to safe depth, switch off electrics.
its is a totally personal thing.
question: what would your crew want from you, in terms of TC.

2048x and even this can sometimes "lag", depending on the mood of my laptop. I have to slow down to 1024x every now and then, as I fear these tenths of seconds when my game freezes and cannot ne controlled.
Only 256x if I am in Allied air covered territory or expecting heavy traffic (ie. ports, coasts)

Ditto...it also means everything is rendered when in your vicinity.

My maximum setting is 512x, but I very rarely go above 256x, unless I want to shorten the travelling time to a patrol area. I usually patrol a grid at either 64x or 128x max. (these are in map view only). My max setting for external view I have set at 4x max. but I usually like to travel on the surface in real time.
It's just a matter of personal preference I suppose, but I have found that running above 512x can sometimes freeze the screen or become a bit jerky, so I altered my max to 512x in SH3 Commander. Running above 1024x is a bit over the top if you ask me, especially 4096x unless you want to cross the Atlantic at super sonic speed. :haha:

The max I use is 256x, but usually cruise at 128x. I find that if the game stutters, it means it's busy loading something. I'll slow down, look around and monitor the hyrdophone to see what's new in my rendering area.

when in axis waters i go to 1024x but once i reach a certain spot ,this varies greatly depending on year and weather, i decrease to 512x. once in active areas of allied traffic i bounce between 128 and 256. once in patrol zone it goes between 32x and 128.
crossing the atlantic though it 1024 in areas of no convoy routes once i reach a convoy route region it goes to 256.
For the most part never any higher than 128x, although last night while crossing the Atlantic to the US coast I used 256 and might have tried 512 had I not set the max compression to 256 in Commander. Of course as the war progresses I slow things down on the surface, usually 8 or 16 while charging batteries or snorkeling then crank it up when back under. Anything higher in late war and I've found that the planes will have you for dinner.

Well... This is kinda awkward...
Guess it's like that because I tend to fall in 1941 and start all over again in 39. I actually never made it to 42.

Max 256x and during attacks at most 64x but sometimes I like being on the bridge in real time for a couple of minutes because I love the sound of the wind and the waves when in a heavy storm :rock:

...after 6 years of playing never got past the end of 1942 - this was due to impatience - I still haven't forgiven myself. I had a great crew:cry:
