I just bought the Gold Edition because I want to play the Atlantic campaign as a German Sub Captain. However, I have the original SH4 which I purchased when it first came out. When it comes to installing the Gold Edition (with U-Boat Missions) how do I install with respect to my original which I have modded? My original is installed with patch 1.4 and many of the add-on mods you experts have devised. But I haven't graduated to any of the fundamental changes on my original about which I don't really know anything about anyway. I tell you this so you know what I have to work with when it comes to installing Gold Edition SH4 (with U-Boat Missions).

So, in summary, I have the original SH4 patched with v1.4 and a lot of small mods, such as, colored HUD and non-scrolling map, etc. So, what's the best way to incorporate SH4 Gold Edition? Danke, mein Herren, Friedrich Ulrich

If you're computer savvy you may be able to install over top and work with the files to get it working. If it were me, I would just uninstall all of the original and re-install the gold edition.

I would simply uninstall everything and reinstall the gold fresh ... corrupt files from over writing and such could happen so give it a fresh try and then redo any mods you wish to use.

Thanks fellows, for the ideas. In the interim I thought of something that I was wondering might work. There is a "device" (I don't know what to call it) or little program called MULTISH4 that I have but never used. As I recall it allows one to install two or more different modded versions on the same drive. But I am not really sure that it would work in this case. I'd appreciate any thoughts you all might have. Thanks again. :salute: Fritz

just remember that all mods MUST be uninstalled first before uninstalling the game and then you must manually open the program files and delete the remaining game folder there to get rid of the corrupted files.

if you don't do it that way you will corrupt the new install

Not being an expert in software or even a better-than-average user by any means, I still managed to use MultiSH4 to do just what you seem to want to accomplish. However, I "retired" my original SH4 (with v1.4 patch) and installed two versions of SH4 Gold (v1.5), one for the U.S. Pacific campaign and one for the KM Atlantic campaign; my Pacific version uses TMO 2.5/RSRD and the Atlantic version uses OM/OMEGU. It was easy to install both using MultiSH4, just start with a clean install and follow the instructions carefully.

However, IIRC the SH4 Gold out-of-the-box (or patched to v1.5 or downloaded), does NOT have the capability to get you into operations in the Battle of the Atlantic (anyone who knows differently, please feel free to correct my memory). AFAIK the SH4 Gold U-Boat Missions add-on only put the Indian Ocean and IO/SW Pacific KM operations into the game; the sole Atlantic Mission is the U-505 and the first KM Campaign starts in 1943 with a Type IX "Monsun" boat deploying to Penang (a good Liberty Port the last time I was there - 1982). If you want to sail the Atlantic Theater of Operations in SH4, you need OM/OMEGU or another such Mod; there's a forum just for that - "SH4 ATO Mods"...good hunting.
