Started a new career n 8/39 and headed out for a shake down cruise... then on patrol 2 i headed into the atlantic.

I encountered a large convoy near rockall bank, inbound, I had already used 4 torpedoes sinking a couple of merchants on the outbound passage. One escort out front was the only protection they had

i infiltrated the convoy around dawn undetected and scoped them out, not a single armed merchant in the bunch... broke contact and reintercepted them around noon. Sent the escort to the bottom with a keelbuster shot.

Surfaced the boat and closed in on a large tanker, sunk it with a spread of two, additionally i lined up on a tramp steamer and sank her with a single fish.

Maneuvered into firing position on a large merchant, fired a spread, she absorbed the hits but eventually sank.

I continued this tactic of "shoot and scoot" until i exhausted all my torpedoes, then switched to the deck gun... it was a slaughter. I started to lose count of the number of ships that were dead in the water burning from end to end.

when it was all said and done, i had exhausted my armament and only 4 merchant ships remained afloat.

in the end i had about 97,000 GRT to my credit.

Given my realism settings i was pretty surprised by this amount of tonnage seeing that its roughly half of what most aces got in a 10+ patrol career but i wont complain... such opportunities dont come along often.

Well done!

I had completely the opposite last night, started patrol 3 from Kiel and headed towards Aberdeen with no event, reached my patrol area and came across a large fleet heading souteast.
Submerged my self and began tracking it beneath the waves, little did I know I had already been spotted and was being hunted myself!
Id only come across The Hood and a massive task force in tow.
Needless to say my inexperience played a hand and after a game of cat and mouse I came worse off thanks to some serious depth charge damage!

Guess Ill just have to try harder next time :)

Do you use MFM? If you do could you tell me how in the world do you get the MFM ships to come up with names and cargo in the patrol report of SH3 Cmdr.? I have installed Steve's ship names many times and have never been able to get SH3 Cmdr to give them proper names and cargo. Only the SH3 generic ships work.

I haven't used MFM in quite some time for that reason exactly, sorry. I don't have the answer to that one.

After patrol change a ship name in your patrol log for example from M39 to Medium Cargo or something else that is SH3 generic ship.
