From the GWX manual:
The Leigh Light in GWX
The Leigh Light appears on all Vickers Wellington, PBY Catalina, and Liberator maritime patrol bombers. Leigh Lights are in use from the beginning of the war rather than starting on their historical date due to hardcoded Silent Hunter III restrictions on changing aircraft equipage over the course of the war.

What a horrible surprise in Sept 1939!:o
That could really ruin a newbie's career.:/\\!!

I have been playing GWX for a long time but I have never seen a Leigh Light equipped aircraft in the early stages of the war!
They appear later as they should!

this is probably because many of the aircraft you encounter early in the war are hurricanes and kingfishers etc - they dont have the light
as GWX progresses the war, more PBYs and Martin Mariners and Wellingtons etc are spawned further out to sea... so in a sort of "work around" kind of way, the leigh light does show up when its supposed to... there are just not very many spawnings of aircraft equipped with it in the early war which would explain why most players dont encounter it until the proper time

Catalina and Liberator are American, the Wellington is used by Canada and several other countries. Met one in 1940 near Canada, although in daytime. Still, as it is impossible to change aircraft throughout the years as ships are, it too had a leigh light.
There is at least one plane which uses leigh light in-game and is not stated in the GWX manual (Kingfisher) but I am not sure if any British planes use them.
EDIT - Actually from GWX:
"Added OS2U-3 Kingfisher observation/scout plane to Argentina, Australia, Great Britain, Mexico, Netherlands, and Uruguay"
Pff. Ok. Also:
"Added Leigh light to the Kingfisher and corrected the Leigh light position on the Catalina"
EDIT2 - GWX is awesome. I mean, they discovered that Uruguay used Kingfishers and enabled that. URUGUAY. That's awesome nit-picking...

Good point GR.....I had wondered about this myself and what you are saying makes good sense to me.

Every time I go back and read through the GWX manual I find something I overlooked before.....these folks did an incredible job!
