DALLAS (AP) -- Pat Summerall, the NFL player-turned-broadcaster whose deep, resonant voice called games for more than 40 years, has died at the age of 82.
Sad to hear this, he will be missed.
I grew up listening to that man.

Man, I wish I could hear just one more game called by Summerall and Madden.

May he rest in peace and his family find solace.

RIP ......
RIP, sir...
The local CBS radio affiliate just ran an interview Madden gave to the CBS San Francisco station. Among the memories Madden related was a funny one regarding Summerall's attention to proper English grammar. Summerall had, at one time, been an English teacher and was very particular about proper speech. During the games he announced on CBS, the announcers would often make small plugs for the shows on the network, One of the shows was "Murder, She Wrote". Madden said he, like many other announcers would just rush through the shows title, ignoring the pause indicated by the presence of the comma. Summerall would pointedly say "John, there's a comma in the title; you have to pause." Madden said Summerall would announce the plug as "Tonight after '60 Minutes', stay tuned for 'Murder.....She Wrote'." Madden said, as time went on during their team-up, the pause tended to get longer and longer...
