Visited RAF Cosford the other day with two of the Quality Street Gang and a great day was had by all.

I see it and it didn't turn out like that on the other two forums but I'll give it a go now.

Great photos Jim. My folks live on one of the ridges overlooking the runway about 10 mins away and it's free so my daughters know it like the back of their hands. The Cosford Air Show is usually in Jun and one of the approach is over my folks house - it makes for a great background to the BBQ (when the weather permits!).

That double nosed Meteor is an odd looking bird.

It was a research aircraft to see whether flying in the prone position (on your stomach) would allow higher G to be reached before the pilot blacked out. The answer was yes but it was too uncomfortable for long flights and there were a few other issues that led to it being dropped.

Jim, Do you have any pictures of the Catalina that's next to Monty's dentist truck?

Thanks for the Catalina - spent a few hours inside it when I was a kid and never realised that someone sat in the wing root at the top of the aircraft.

You can see the steps to Monty's dentist truck in the left of the top photo. It's a WW2 era dental surgery on the back of a truck, but they've dressed it as a Desert Rat truck.

I honestly never even noticed it

The Pucara is in much better condition then the one at Sunderland...by a long way.

The Japanese aircraft is a Mitsubishi Ki-46 'Dinah' Twin-engine reconnaissance aircraft.

Just been reading up on that Mozzie (with the funny looking nose). Turns out it was passed around a bit (like most aircraft were in those heady days) and ended up at one point at Little Rissington where the ground crews didn't want to be responsible for keeping another aircraft airworthy so they stuck it in a heated hangar, under a heat duct to encourage the deterioration of the glued joints - which they then said they couldn't maintain on that unit. :nope:

Great pictures Jim! From your pictures, it looks like you could fuel up that Mossie, and take her for a spin. I wish it didn't cost so much to maintain them in flyable condition, would love to see and hear one do a flyby. Sadly, doubt that I will ever see that though.

We don't have one with the capability since we did away with the Harriers.

Hopefully the F 35 if we ever get them will be used on the two Queen Elizabeth class that are currently under construction but it has already been announced that one of them will be mothballed on completion.

RN have got exchange pilots with the US forces so as soon as we buy some F35 we should be able to use them.

The RAF got royally seen off when we decided to scrap Harrier - a very capable and versatile aircraft that gave great ground support through Afghan, although it struggled with the crosswind component in some airfields. USMC AV8B has the same problem.

Funny, talking about Red Top missiles, I've spent most of the afternoon painting a bench for the neighbour, she'd got it at a market for thirty-six quid, and she'd covered the plaque on it, when I finished she showed me the plaque and it was a retirement gift to someone from Hawker-Siddeley. I joked that I'd painted the bench in Anti-Flash White...not sure if she got the reference...

You'll have to find out when there is an exercise on and go to Spadeadam or Otterburn.

I'm not sure what we've got on our itinerary for this year.

It would have been great to have a name for identification purposes but you can't have it every way I suppose.

Aye, was one of the first things I looked for when I saw Hawker-Siddeley...although I somewhat doubt it's Sir Sydneys, would have been a few extra zeros after the price in that case. :haha:

Actually the leopard II isn't a vartiant of the Leopard I. They are totally independent designs and only share the name.
But I like them both.:yeah:

The original Leopard was a good tank, but the II is definitely one of the best tanks in the world, in fact, out of the Abrams, Challie and Leopard, it's hard to choose between them. Not to say the 80 is a bad tank, but it's not as good as the big three...

At all viewing angles, the propellor design consisting of black and white stripes asymmetrically placed on opposing blades was judged 'most conspicuous' by a large margin.http://www.faa.gov/data_research/research/med_humanfacs/oamtechreports/1970s/media/AM78-29.pdf
