Hi all! I've been a long time lurker in the forums and this is my first actual post here and I know it's not much, but I had to share my excitement. After several days of tweaking, changing, and hunting for answers, I got a sudden brainstorm inside this nyquil cloud in my head (sry have the flu). After having read and followed the snorkel raise/lower for the SD radar info around the forum I got the realization that I could just put the sj radar head on the same mast as the sd radar, thus being able to raise/lower both radars when i'm at snorkel (now radar) depth.

I have a few minor adjustments to make, such as lowering the sd head so the sj head isn't rotating through it, and a minor height adjustment to the mast itself inside the .dat file (to lower it on the actual conning tower model). However this is a major leap from where I was a week ago LOL.
Now, I'm sure many of you have already made such changes so this isn't a big deal to you so I apologize for the posting, but I just couldn't contain my excitement! :)

Welcome aboard cpc2011! :salute:
Can you upload your little mod after you're finished and have it tested? I'd like to try it.

I have a job for you. We have this new radar system installed on the boat. We can now raise and lower both radars on the mast. After we get submerged, I need you to check to make sure the radar mast sticks out of the water and is difficult to see.

Well I can probably do that. However since I don't use any of the mega mods (because when I get the modding/tweaking bug I enjoy doing my own thing) I don't think too many would be interested. Give me a few days to set it all up on the rest of the subs, as right now I only have it working on the Gato as far as I know. Oh and I'll need to clean up my conning towers and equipment files so that even I can tell what the heck I did LOL.

And thanks for the welcomes guys :)

Haven manual will learn.

This next article has a key item I noted in that the US submarines would use the Japanese radar signals against them.

Look for the blue number 35 it's in that paragraph.

Well I've run into a problem. When starting a new career at 1941 (when there is no surface search radar available) you automatically have the SJ radar if you have the SD set installed. I'm pretty sure this is due to my changing the id for the SJ mast to use the SD mast which is what is allowing the raise/lower feature. A minor "oops", but a problem nonetheless.

Welcome aboard cpc2011! Well done for 'having a go', congrats on your success so far and keep at it.

I thought TMO already had the ST radar in it? Anyway, you can attach a radar node to the observation periscope to get an approximation of ST radar (you can raise or lower it with the obs scope keys), but you won't be able to link the direction the periscope is pointing to the direction the radar node is pointing (unless you find out how! :-) ). You have to control the radar direction from the radar console and the periscope bearing is irrelevant, so not like RL, but better than nothing.

If you changed the ID of the SJ radar, then the equipment files will probably think that is the SD radar mast and equips that instead. What you need to do is edit the equipment files so that the ST radar set in the observation scope (there is a separate 3D model for it already) becomes available at some point and make sure an appropriate radar node is mapped to that object.
